Hotas Thrustmaster - worth it?

A late June release is perfect for me, a couple of the older grand kids are coming to visit from North of the frost line, generally referred to as the Mexico/ U.S. border, during their summer break. Though I have two left hands and the digits are all thumbs. They'll be able to configure my HOTAS 4, for me.

Just so you know this commander ...

Uses the old T-Flight HOTAS X (not compatible with the PS4 but will be almost identical to the HOTAS 4).

I own a TF H X, I have no idea how they can make it do that. It's good stick though, amazing for the price.

Thanks for the thoughts. So using the Hotas seems to be more immersive (kind of logic) and have no drawbacks regarding the controls (or even slight advantages). I think I'll give it a try, as immersion is quite important in such a game for me.

E.g. I was thinking about pvp hotas vs controller. I don't want to have disadvantages when using a different control input (though I am not a pvp player anyway, but the situation will come in open mode one day).

For immersion, a HOTAS is king. Put in PvP, I would agree that KBM is best due to precision.

I wish i could fly like that with FA off.... fair play to him

I wish I could get anywhere close with FA on!

Quite a legendary commander though, and the people he goes up against are as well, well more infamous than famous but you can't knock their combat ability. To survive as long as Isinona does in and un-engineered viper is just astounding.

I maybe wrong, but the way I grasp the FA feature from all the video's I viewed, is. An aircraft behaves differently in space then it does in an atmosphere. Wings, tsils, rudderd, flaps have no usefullness in space. Utilizing FA gives one the control to the extent that their flying in an atmosphere when their really not. Simular to water craft handle differently in water, than auto's do on land.Even though they both have simular steering and breaking capabilities.

Yes pretty much, it stabilises the ship for you, If you press boost with FA on it'll gradually drag the speed back to your throttle setting. With FA off you carry on until some opposite force is applied. This allows for greater freedom of movement but you have to counter every drift so it's far more skillful. You can boost away from an enemy and switch FA off then pitch round to face the enemy even though you're still moving away from them.

It takes skill and to fly like Isinona around a station it takes a lot of skill. FA on also stops you plummeting like a stone when landing on a planet. Although it's not perfect, there are some quite funny videos of people camping near a high G space port just watching over confident pilots slam themselves into the planet, even FA needs care in a high G environment.

I own 24 ft boat, some call it a yacht. I enjoy the hell of viewing new yachters attempting to get in or out of their slips. On busy holidays, I'll often have guest, and have fun laughing our asses off watching the noobs.

I have the HOTAS on PC and will be getting it for PS4.

I think it just makes the game more enjoyable and easier to control the ships movements and makes things like landing and combat so much easier. :)

I'm hoping the Thrustmaster T16000M FCS will also work with the game, since i've read it seems to work with Warthunder on PS4 too. More buttons and that throttle looks awesome! Guess we'll find out when the game comes out. And if it doesn't I'll just go with the Hotas 4.

It isn't the 'game' its the 'console'. The T4 is the only one officially supported by Sony - others have said they have tried different HOTAS with mixed, and not 100% reliable, results. Some buttons don't bind or work at all etc. but by all means try it and let us know the results....

Well, after playing around with my HOTAS 4 both on War Thunder on PS4 and the ED demo on PC, I think its totally worth it.
BUT, its going to take a long time to master, and that will take time and effort if you're like me and not used to flight sticks.
Last time I used one was probably at an arcade as a kid (yeah...an arcade, anyone remember those? lol)
I definitly think that once I get into the game and get the binds and set up that works I'll enjoy ED a lot more than with DS4.

HOTAS players have a great advantage over controller players. I used a 360 controller while my HOTAS was broke. Its better than keyboard and mouse but considerably worse than the Thrustmaster, which is by go-to HOTAS and fills every need. Maybe the 6-axis is better.

This may be probably more down to the fact you were used to playing with a stick and not with a controller. This is even more so for people who use controllers infrequently so PS4 players will be pretty au fait with DS4. I personally believe which ever you practice with and master will be fine. Stick or controller. Pick what you prefer.

That's a shame. I guess I'll hold off from buying one until I've tried using my normal controller then. Thanks for the quick response by the way, appreciate it!

It's not because the PS4 doesn't or won't support it. There is no vibrator in or on the design of the hotas at this date.
