I think this is a really good move. 2.4 sounds like its going to hit in the summer. I presume there has been a team working on "3.0" which likely will come for Xmas and between then there will be a maintenance release. Work on "4.0" being delayed. Given the summer must be difficult for a software house with people wanting holidays, being able to work on small improvements from the wish list would seem to fit quite well. The interesting thing will be to see what makes it in.

Thank you Zac. I was never in doubt about the commitment of Frontier towards Elite. Although it seems to be that the age of brand new features is over for now, I'm quite happy about what's on offer here and I welcome any changes and improvements to existing game mechanics. Now that the features are in place it's time to flesh them out. Now the only bit of news I can't wait is the nature of Project Scorpio support. :) Other than that I'm extremely happy and will remain as committed to the game as you are. Fly safe, everyone! o7

Lets call them the more VOCAL Critics of the current state of the game. Players like myself and Mengy for example. They/we totally helped to make this happen.

Wow. Wow. And....wow.
So if it wasn't for GG7 and friends ED never would have been patched again and all work on it would have stopped.
Wow. I've got to stop coming to this asylum.

Only request is that you consider how each change will integrate with the game as a whole and that you keep it consistent. If a new mechanic or qol change requires extraordinary suspension of disbelief above and beyond what is already in game, please filter it out.

Marvelous!

All that salt turned to gold.

The phrases:

"I am bored."
"What am I going to do now?"

and

"This is just not worth it anymore...."

All those phrases will be gone forever with the next update. I hope.

1) Point release in July to fix game bugs
2) Told us when to expect solid info on 2.4
3) Updates post 2.4 will focus on core gameplay

That's not nothing dude. They've listened to our complaints and are trying to be a little more transparent. Fdev can't say too much because if they do and something changes the forums with crucify them. Give them a little credit. If the updates suck then get on their case. Don't give them crap for doing what we, the community, have been asking them to do. This is them being a little more transparent than they've been pretty much all season.

Developer litterally cannot catch a break.

"We bring you balance changes?"
> no changes we want new stuff? D:

"We bring you new stuff?"
> this new stuff doesn't work can you change it? D:

"We bring you balance changes to new stuff?"
> no changes! we want new stuff? D:

"We bring you new new stuff?"
> why can't you fix the old new stuff? D:

"Okay guys we heard you we bring you new new new stuff but after we fix most of the old, and new stuff"

> why can't you give us new stuff? D:

Frontier are genuinely trying to build a darned good game and just cannot get traction. So maybe the way they are now going to approach this, which is trust their own instincts more and focus on areas that makes sense to do, when they make sense to do, is a gutsy but wise move.

Folks have assumed far too much right to dictate change and, frankly, the game has suffered for it. This is the first good news I have heard all week. It's been a long week.

tl;dr - I am all for healthy communication and community involvement but the developer must 100% be in the drivers seat and they have not been of late. The priorities have changed a little to ensure that the game is kept on track and that the developer has good control over outcomes.

No, primarily lambasted by the usual corp of whiners. Though I always think the game can be better, I've actually been largely happy with the updates in this Season-& your claim that these elements are "Pew Pew" just goes to highlight what a hater you are, unbound by facts or truth.

You are correct, PP and RNGineers do extend beyond pew pew. :) My bad. I should have distinguished between pew pew mods (SLF, MC, CQC), PP, and RNGineers as being separate updates rather than imply that all are strictly synonymous to each other.

I readily admit that I do carry an air of negativity regarding development, but it's only because I care. I won't lower myself to your level and bandy around personal insults but, before you cast unwarranted aspersions about me, I will tell you this: I'm not a hater. I may not like the main feature of an update, I may disagree with FD regarding development, but I've played and supported ED long enough to also appreciate that what FD have achieved so far is amazing. If it wasn't, I'd be playing something else. Yet I still play ED, and I still enjoy it. I may be harder to please than some, but based on my experience I won't build my hopes up. ;)

Metal is more feature rich than in December 2015, when is the macOS community going to be updated?

When the feature set the developer needs but can't access occurs? Developer has to work with platform restrictions. This is just as true for PC (needing to support two major chipsets) as well as Xbox and soon PS4.

My understanding is that Horizons is a bag of hurt for MacOS due to shader access. It would be nice to get an update, but if the developer doesn't have anything new to add because Apple aren't about to change anything then that's all they can tell you.

2.3.10 will be very interesting, it seems for the network part and stability. If there is a beta, it is that the work is important on this subject

I have a pass of lifetime. I will not go so far as to say that I had predicted the future

:p

Me too, one of the best purchases of all IMO, although I try to buy bits and bobs from the store from time to time. My Alliance lapel pin still attracts attention, but now my purchases tend to be ship cosmetics. :)

So you'll be working on existing features after the 2.4 Thargoid breadcrumb trail.

Not really sure why anyone is surprised, this surely goes without saying.

On release many players believed in the vertical slice theory (i was one of them) most of us expected the core features to be updated and expanded upon to the point where they began to resemble the DDF or at least deepened the gameplay to somewhere close to the vision the devs would talk about during early development.

Two very obvious elements that must be addressed to fulfill the basic concept most kickstarters thought was a given are a dynamic economy and persistent NPC's. I really hope that these elements of the game can be developed beyond the extremely basic systems we have at the moment.

Some of us are losing faith here, i'm the only player left of the group that i started playing with 2 and a half years ago and i for one cannot honestly recommend the game on stream or to friends until FD get the very basics covered :(

Sorry to come across as negative but to me this info should be obvious and certainly is not newsworthy enough to make a thread about.

Still i'm glad to hear you are not going to introduce any new "features" and will be working on expanding the core gameplay loops that are still woefully underdeveloped.
