Frustration Diagnosis

I didn't know that was an option. Did you already pay for the preorder? Is there a simple "cancel order" button, or do you have to contact Sony?

There is no simple cancel button with them. Also if you live in a place that doesn't require them to give the refunds, it can be a task at times to get them to do it.

You have to contact them unfortunately m8 although you can do it by email.

My advice to you though is don't! I've already got the game on xbox so it makes little difference to me but for peeps that have been waiting for so long it's still worth sticking with it.

Its not just us boys (and girls), its not just us....

I just read the news on Eurogamer. Here goes:

Space-faring game Elite Dangerous will get a 4K patch for the Xbox One X's launch on 7th November.

The game is being shown here in Los Angeles at E3, where Xbox One X was debuted just two days ago.

"We will of course be embracing it at Frontier," Elite Dangerous director David Braben said in a statement to Eurogamer. "Elite Dangerous runs very well on the Xbox One X, in 1080p and in 4K, at launch."

What do you think. Also, Gary if you read this, can you comment anything on this? Higher graphics settings, better framerate, anything? :)

Senior Producer, Gary Richards response.......

I have read this on Eurogamer, but can't comment on anything further.

I'm frustrated. Many of you are frustrated. However, I personally don't want to become one of those "angry people" we so often see over in the PC forums. Today I want to "let it go", but before I do so, I need to express clearly and concisely why I'm frustrated. I created this thread so others can do the same.

The best analogy I can come up with is the teacher who lacks passion for the subject he / she teaches, especially when we the students are passionate about the subject. As I and many others see it, Frontier lacks passion for the PS4 version of ED. Now I'm sure the team of developers working on the PS4 version is very passionate about their work. The marketing and communications team, I'm sorry to say, is completely unengaged with the PS4 community. They just don't seem to care.

Like a passionate student stuck in a soulless class, my own passion is starting to ebb away. I'll still play the game when it comes out, and I'll enjoy it for what it is, but will I remain passionate about it? I'm beginning to have my doubts. It's my passion that turned into frustration, and to let go of the latter, I may have to let go of the former.

There's so much more I could say (TL;DR), but I'll save that for the conversation that ensues.

Your passion shall be increased 10fold when you finally play the PS4 Elite: Dangerous.
There is no lack of passion on FD's part towards the PS4 version. The Cobra Engine they use to build the game is a true multi-platform authoring tool.
I think there is a good chance the game will run even better than it does on the Xbox.

The frustration is a function of your ability to have patience, which you show quite admirably.

I can cut them some slack for not commenting further on the XBox One X - it was just announced, and the console itself won't be in stores until November. The irony is that we know more about how ED on XBox One X than we do about PS4 / PS4 Pro. That math just don't add up.

Gully, I appreciate the comment. This may sound crazy, but if Ed Lewis (or any rep from FDev) had posted your comment word-for-word, I think we might all feel more reassured, but until that happens.....

Agreed, you are right, its not a place I expected to be in 2 weeks before PS4 launch, I guess this is the way, the FDev way.

They are afraid that if they talk about it too much that too many people will want to play on day one. That's it. This is how they prevent server overload. I figured it out.

but PS4 will not really be news...
...what are you wanting to know RE the PS4 version and I can see if I can get some answers for you

From a parallel thread. A flavour of the sort of questions that are still unanswered.

Things i'd like to know:

Pre-order bonuses
- will we get Cobra MK4?
- will physical copies get gold Sidewinder?
- will non-USA preorders get Elite avatars?
- any special editions (physical Cobra MK3 model plz?)?

VR
- any more on PSVR than "we're looking into it"?
like can you say if the issue is the original PS4 holding things back; can it be released as say a graphical upgrade on PS4 Pro only; how about in the released game having a beta "at your own risk" checkbox to enable PSVR, to circumvent Sony's requirements *cough* just for feedback?

Graphical options (my preferences for Pro)
- 60fps 1080p + supersampling / high
- 30fps 1080p + supersampling / ultra
- ...
- 30fps 4K + sub-high

I'd definitely favour framerate, FoV (field of view) and textures (especially planetary) over 4K. Definitely give us FoV slider!

HOTAS and controller support
- do we get full button remapping? and I mean every PC option able to be chosen if one likes (including deadzone customisation, inverted and hold toggles etc)
- other Thrustmaster product support? eg Warthog
- other manufacturers? eg Saitek / Logitech

PSN / integration
- implement PSN "players met" properly
- allow PSN level player blocking to block users in Elite (including them resetting their CMDR account in-game, and PSN subaccounts, ie inheritance from PSN master account)
- multicrew joining from PSN Party groups and "games in progress"
- allow 100% trophy completion solo (Ed has already confirmed CQC trophies, but for the love of whatever deity(s) you believe in, give us bots or something so we do not need human players)

What they should be afraid of is that any search regarding ED on PS4 leads to this forum. Think about that for a minute...

Dav mentioned specifically on the live stream the other night that they are very confident they can cope with numbers on release. Servers automatically spin up to cope with load. I am guessing the Salome event was partly to see how things would go on PS4 launch.

not true, Dav was on the live stream last Thursday and said that they have already got adequate server space to accommodate a rush of players on launch day. so that's one false rumor down, just another thousands more to go

Old Duck is correct though and it does not make sense at this point that they have not shown off any "real" game play from the PS4. I wish they would show both the PS4 and Pro versions. Not just the tutorial that was shown a couple months ago. Actually landing on planets, going into stations, being around a large battle, jumping from system to system. This what I want to see and does have me concerned a little being that we are SO close to getting this ourselves. It should be something that Frontier should want to do I would think from a marketing standpoint (even though 'marketing' is a little to late).
