Youtuber Kornelius Briedis seems to have had it with Fdevs

Guild wars series(GW & GW2)
WoW(yes, millions still play it)
EVE(core fanbase is still there after 14 years)
:)

- Starwars Galaxies was still being played right up to shutdown
- ALL of the Elder scrolls games still have a good following of players - with content and mods still being worked on, even for Morrowwind
- Eve's core playerbase has never been so healthy and with the recent switch to allow Alpha F2P access has gained a significant boost

While you may state that Wow's numbers are in decline from it's peak, while not untrue, I challenge you to tell me of ANY GAME DEVELOPER ON EARTH WHO WOULDN'T CONSIDER A 7 MILLION REGULAR SUBSCRIBER PLAYERBASE AS A SUPREME SUCCESS - EVEN NOW.

To counterpoint VONBLADES comment - here is a list of games that were meant to be open multiplayer (because ED doesn't have an offline component) that got it badly wrong and either A) had a rewrite from the ground up or B) tried to go F2P but fixed very little and became a "zombie game" still twitching but lifeless or C) folded and died with barely anyone noticing:

Age of Conan (zombie) (played)
SwTor (A+B)
Warhammer Online (C) (played)
Elder scrolls online (A) (Played)
Aion (B)
Fallen Earth (B) kinda ironic considering it's theme (played)
The Secret World (C) - haha most people didn't even know of it's existence AT ALL, super ironic (played)
Neocron (v1 tried A - v2 did C) (tried to play, massive server issues)
Shadowrun Online (c)
Deus Ex Online (C) (had probably the shortest lifespan of any MMO ever created)

And that's just off the top of my head of MMO's I tried at launch or read about then wondered a short time later.... "wasn't there going to be a game about...." only to read it had already folded or had to do a major redesign.

If FDev wasn't trading heavily on the past glories of the Elite franchise, it's graphics and that it's the only current first person space sim with an MMO component - I honestly think it would be struggling now to hold onto players.. wait what?

the last 30 days.... could well coincide with the amazing weather in the uk at the moment (ED i understand still has a huge ukcentric playerbase).

look at may 2017 and compare with may 2016.... People are still playing the game imo. it is natural to expect numbers to be off a bit right now, its holiday season for many of us, (xmas is NOT holiday season for the UK) and we are at the wrong end of a DLC which has run over due by 6 months and counting.

i am not discounting any of the complaints of the game. i have a lot of my own.... but imo those steam stats do not show the game is struggling for numbers imo... unless it has been struggling for years (only FD know what they consider healthy)

Point being that current player base is 6k. Out of 1.5million sales, "everyone" is definitely not playing the game. I'm not saying that ED is dying, I'm saying it's far far cry from being fine.

While those are only representative of steam owners - even if you doubled the numbers for non steam, those figures are still quite telling - it's peak was when it was launched, with a minor spike for horizons.

and EVEN AT IT'S PEAK and DOUBLING those figures for players who bought the game retail - hell TRIPLE those figures to include KS backers and you've still got LESS THAN 60,000 as a peak nu,ber EVER EVER EVER.

You white knight ppl keep saying ED is a success. 60k players max ever ever in 2015/7 is monumentally pathetic

ED isn't dying, but it does have a malignant cancer in the form of an unaddressed engineer exploit mods still roaming free in the game, coupled with massive imbalance between ships in the same weight/size/rank class. It basically forces people to either conform to the Imperials AND cheat, or conform to mediocrity.

Back on topic, the title of the thread claims that Kornelius "has given up on the game due to many bad designs", and the first post states that Kornelius has "had it with Fdevs".

Is there any evidence for this at all? I get that he isn't producing ED videos any more, but that's a very different thing. I can't find any statements from Kornelius to this effect.

I have no idea what the numbers need to be for FD to consider it a success... however numbers do not tell the whole story.

(btw i now see what Bobby was meaning and take his point onboard).

but imo Elite has always been a niche title... there is nothing what so ever wrong with a game not appealing to everyone, and indeed i would say my biggest complaint with ED since launch is FD bending over backwards to try to appeal to everyone....... in trying to appease the casual gamers (i do not use the term as a slur) who expect to get access to all the content really quickly, they are imo killing the game for players like myself......

heaps of players play wow, heaps play dota 2...................... but I DIDNT BUY DOTA2 or WOW. those games do not appeal to me.

if FD sticking to their original design principles means ED is a niche game and not destined to sell millions, well, that is fine with me, and IF FD did their homework/maths properly and marketed to the correct people i hope it is fine with FD too.

~100 million people play candycrush every day. It does not make it a good model for ED.

All I know is if FD keep selling the soul of their game to appeal to the masses just to get numbers up, then they will lose at least 1 player.... IF they go full on main stream then i have to ask why bother KSing in the 1st place?. I thought the entire point was to test the water to see if there was room in the market for a more niche titles which did not follow the normal "rules" that a standard publisher would demand followed

which i realise is a tangent from the post

That's a fair point...

From what I recall his videos seemed to get more and more questioning of why things were the way they were. ie: Why certain developments were getting done the way they were, and indeed, even at all (If my recollection is wrong, I apologise)? The significance being I'd suggest this reflects a growing feeling across the community.

ie: Here we are 2.5yrs into the game, now coming up to the end of season 2, and what's the track record? Has it met our expectations? What does it suggest for what we can expect going forwards?

I think it's no coincidence this thread is accompanied in the forum by probably the most negative/questioning posts I've ever seen. It think it's no coincidence some figures suggest the lowest number of active players ever. I think it's no coincidence FD have possibly looked at all of this and announced their intention at (finally) improving some core areas.

Personally, if 2.4-->3 doesn't show a significant change in depth of content and quality of content, I think the trend we've witnessed over the course of this year is set to continue... I'll let you decide how important that is.

<snip>

People will hate me for this, but I think engineers needs to be removed temporarily and re-worked.. its just creating a wider rift between playstyles and I dont think thats good for the game.

If The Engineers was remove and reworked into something more sensible and subtle... Brilliant! I personally think it's basically "damaged" the game!

No, that's the number of people being online on steam at the same time. Current player base is still over 100.000.

Scott Manley ,astonomer, rocketeer, loves elite, superb voice, over 600000 youtube subscribers.

I wonder how many he has brought to Elite?
(He does many space games and doesn't concentrate on ED)

*raises hand*

In all honesty I knew what Elite dangerous was when I watched one of his videos 2 years ago.
He's very cool and his content is actually quite fun and informative.

I must be so disconnected, I will never understand what the world is coming to...
Hint: Maybe you should have read some of those 270 posts before feeling the need to post some unfounded, ill-considered rhetoric for seemingly no other reason that in reality to say, "Look at me! Look at me!"

I have learned a lot on this thread.
1) The average forumite here has way too much time on their hands.
2) Life must be pretty good if this subject is the cause of much angst and concern for them.
3) Too much of anything, even ED, is not good for you apparently.

Guess I could wax on more but I got to go to work.

Haha well said. These three points are applicable to a major portion of all forum content on the internet in general :D

This is a forum about game elite dangerous, YT content creator with big follow up made a video about said game. And you are surprised people are reacting? Maybe you should not be on a game forum.

The operative words here being "game", "people are reacting", and "YT content creator"? Content creator? Hehe...all hail?
Yessir. Too much time...

No idea what you are talking about. An I dont understand the issue that many people have here with YT guys. If you despise them so much why are you wasting your time posting here? Puzzled.

Let me understand - You repeatedly duck into a thread, not to really comment on the topics being discussed in there, but instead to basically pick fault with the people posting in that thread? For example, your tag line suggesting these posters must clearly have "too much time" if they can post about such things...

Yet here you are, needlessly posting half a dozen times in the thread desperately trying prove some non-point? Ironic no? :)

Sort of feels a little bit more like attention seeking or some desperation for one-upmanship TBH?

If you don't agree with the thread, why keep coming back just to try and basically insult folks?

EDIT: Ninja'd - See my comment has already been made by Vasea ;)
