FDev, you just upset a *lot* of people.

I confirm.

On my second account I tried the cheat on one DD Thruster and got all my G5 Thrusters reduced to stock. 14 legit, 1 cheated, all. (I'm OK with that, no problems. Couldn't resist the itch.). All other modules stayed upgraded.

Yeah, I know a bunch of people that did it for giggles and did nothing but shoot each other. None of them cares even in the slightest. It's rather bemusing to see so many people gloating over something that largely doesn't exist :p

While it's been there from the very beginning ED was never meant as an e-sport game or some sort of Moba (you've got CQC for that). That's basically the direction what most PVPers seem to be trying to move the game into. PVP in small scale with some friends works, but in Open - just not. The sheer existence of Solo and Group modes should ring a very big bell to you.

ED was never "PVP-centric" as you're trying to suggest, it was just one of many aspects of the game. I would agree in that PVP could be better than it actually is but to make this happen FD would have to re-write large chunks of the game, starting from the netcode and a change to one single central server (which would open up quite a lot of other cans of worms, including but not exclusive - the payment model. Hint: This is not and never will be EVE).

That being said, I always found the blindness of certain PVPers to these facts fairly naive (or more friendly: wishful thinking) - from the very beginning on. Unfortunately I can't see any signs of a learning process.

I never said or attempted to suggest pvp was central to Elite, you seem to be having flashbacks to some other argument that doesn't involve me. I said PvP was a part of the game from the start and I agree with you that it works best in small-scale. I was very much a part of the small-scale pvp scene before Engineers, fighting with other groups for system control or against the random pirate or two when doing trade or rares runs.

My point was that Engineers completely flipped the game over onto its head and, from the beginning, was a poorly thought out mechanic that was far too heavily focused on RNG for mats and rewards. Fdev should have stuck with the original model and made these components available on the market with maybe reputation and cost being the gates that players needed to get through. Not this asinine mechanic that is the engineers. Engineers never should have been introduced.

Working day in and day out with QAs, I'd say no - it was probably found randomly by several people at around the same time, and at least one of these people shared it on a non-FD forum.

Found during the beta testing and reported apparently, so it was not accidental, someone was trying to break the game and succeeded.

Soooooo, people that cheated, also had legitimately rolled modules, and are complaining that their god rolls are not the only ones that are getting purged?

I'd have thought that any account (forget actual god rolled items) would have all their engineered items sent straight to jail, and do not collect $200 passing GO.

Sounds like this is too harsh for the cheaters?

I know we live in a world where human rights and lawsuits suggest an all manner of balmy get out clauses... perhaps similar to: one can buy a hot chocolate and sue the place if you burned yourself because the hot chocolate was hot...

..but asking fdev to leave 'legitimate' good rolls alone on accounts that god roll hacked modules.. That's a bit cheeky.

Indeed, there are a number of 'Moby's' out there that can't see how fortunate they were not to be whacked in the Evonne Goolagong's by the banhammer.

I never suggested it wasn't, I was just responding to someone asking the question. What is with these forums and people having conversations occur in their heads, and then projecting them onto the forums?.
You also never suggested it was.

...doesn't change the fact that a serously unbalanced, overkill, module is possible. It's broken.

Only for PvP. For PvE it's hilarious fun.

I don't get it, where's the source for these punishments?

Surely FD would want to publish what punishment was given out. Crime & Punishment works in that there's a deterrent to future exploiters by knowing what happened to those that did exploit.

We learn what jail terms actual criminals get, why aren't we learning what action was taken against these exploiters?

They're all minors and their parents/guardians didn't give consent to publish their names? :x

You missed the point mate. Statistically it might be unlikely, but it is possible. Some of these modules are upto 140% more efficient than the average "good" G5 roll.
That's catastrophically unbalanced. Whether or not they're rare is irrelevant, the fact is it can happen.

Yes it can but it is unlikely and the likely hood of getting god-roll on all modules is even more unlikely. So a few people get god-rolls on a module occasionally? So what. Is that a good reason to remove the possibility completely?

Personally I think not, you obviously do.

That's where organized PvP comes into play. Make rules.

hahaha, that's what most of the cheaters did anyway. Yet it was apparently a massive problem?
I'm not saying Frontier shouldn't have addressed it. But their inconsistency in addressing cheats and exploits, plus their willingness to implement borderline broken(actually broken?) mechanics should also be addressed here.

This is a good step. I hope that Frontier continue to clean things up.

Yeah, that is pretty juicy. The 13th rank lower than SDC or CODE in my books (SDC are alright really, just like stirring people up.) So that level of hubris and arrogance is quite the schadenfreude enducing show.

Although, to be fair, he is correct. He was not banned. He was punished.

I'm happy about the punishment and in his case I'd be even happier about a ban!

The ramifications of this exploit can be huge...being practically invincible has given the offenders opportunity to effect the BGS with impunity...However the nature of the beast is pvp...ganking with impunity...what message does this deliver to the community? ...To the new players ? ..it's not enough just to say 'Git Gud ' that's just crass...it's not ok to say that if you play in open you can expect to be ganked...Yeah that's great community spirit.

A small minority are preying on the weak or inexperienced...FDev put in community events like CG's and guess what it's a magnet for gankers ...what does FDev do ...nothing ...They simply say it's dangerous when in fact the likes of these groups are exploiting FDev...sticking middle fingers up to the player base...The fact that these same people used exploits to gain an unfair advantage and then these same players go gank noobs is no less than disgusting. The victims is this are the players who have been ganked , The factions that have been undermined .FDev says the exploit is not in the spirit of the game...neither is ganking.

A simple fix without ruining things would be to extend the no fire zone at CG's stations as in disable weapons to the jump in point of the station ..at least then it will only be the suicide sideys to contend with...which is a lot more controllable.

Whilst I applaud this action, it's a slap on the wrist...it does nothing to the offenders

The punishment will be laughed at...didn't go far enough in my opinion
Please stop trying to change open into your vision of what you want it to be. I like it the way it is. A C&P system wouldn't hurt but the majority of players in open are happy with the risk and don't care if they end up facing a rebuy screen. It's people who don't play in open always seem to be the ones who whine about it the most.

Indeed

So what Frontier are actually saying it seems is "we can't tell what you have exploited vs legitimately engineered therefore we will take the lot off you... don't do it again"
I

I thought it was more of... You exploited this blueprint we are removing all modifications with that blueprint from you as a punishment.
When someone steals and gets caught they loose the stolen goods and get punished in some way.
