FDev, you just upset a *lot* of people.

In this case we're talking about the players with the most pvp experience in the game, who would still be flying meta ships and could roll at least average G5 mods in relatively little time. Seriously, they would still be able to rinse anybody who hasn't spent significant time doing pvp. That's the dumbest aspect of this pseudo-rage really, if they all just played the game, rolled their mods wthout spending ridiculous amounts of time grinding and got on with it they'd be in exactly the same position as they were yesterday; competitive with each other and considerably better than most. If that's not enough for them, there's no helping them.

Well put. 100% accurate assessment IMO. Not only are these the best combat pilots in the game with or without mods, I'm sure they can easily acquire a number of g5 modules with relative ease. This whole scandal was just dumb and unnecessary.

But anybody who thinks the exploit was to cover for a lack of ability is in for a humongous surprise the next time they meet one of these guys

From what I'm gathering so far, the manner in which you've conducted your exploit punishment have been nothing less than extremely clumsy. Instead of only removing the rolls which were exploited, you've also elected to remove anything that might have been a legitimate roll. What you're literally telling us is "We know you cheated, but since we can't tell which module you cheated to upgrade, we're taking this sledgehammer to everything we think might have been exploited." I'm seeing a lot of people having lost their legitimately upgraded modules... and some performed the exploit once out of curiosity.

You're losing players pulling this stuff, guys. It's bad enough you guys took said sledgehammer to anything that looked suspicious, but according to reddit posts some people still have their exploited modules.

I'm really glad I didn't let my curiosity get the better of me... I probably would have had my FAS wiped from existence if I had from ONE module.

[EDIT] Since some people would rather not actually read the thread and see that I attempted to clarify, I might as well add this in. I jumped the gun and posted this believing that any roll viewed as "suspect" would be targeted. I didn't spend a month dedicated to engineering my FAS in all aspects to have it dedicated over a false positive, you know. But obviously as more information has come out it seems FDev have a way of actually tracking these things, so... I tried admitting to the mistake, but nobody's actually READING the thread.

Y'all really like to resort to immediate derision and vitriol to any opinion you don't like though, do you? What a nice bunch you are. :p

This is ludicrous. Firstly, you're protesting on behalf of others and you weren't affected ? Do I have it right ?
As for your last sentence, didn't you do just that and resort to immediate derision and vitriol towards FDev ?

Frontier did exactly the right thing and if anything were a tad too lenient as they did not threaten future repeated behaviour with something like a 3 month game ban.

You cannot exploit the game like this then whinge if a legit roll also got taken away. If fixing these misdemeanours was going to be something Frontier couldnt manage with scalpel-like precision then that's just tough. Too bad. That's the risk people took and now they're paying the price.

Do we always have to hear the 'players are leaving' line as if everyone has a handle on what all others are doing ? This is a weak scare tactic.
If players leave because they got their ill-gotten gains taken away then that's their problem in that they can't own up to and own their actions.
I don't particularly want people like that in-game anyway so I would consider this as weeding the garden.

If you can't put up your hands and say 'ok you got me' and accept that you might have had to pay a little 'fine' in a stripped legit roll then you should have thought twice before you rubbed your hands together and dived in exploiting this flaw.

Personally I congratulate Frontier on taking this stand. I'd have been a little more heavy handed (as mentioned above) but regardless I'm glad they've done it.
I do also think they should focus on the Quince exploiters now. Quince is more messed up, widespread and complex though but assets (the complex part) and credits should be stripped there too.
I personally doubt Frontier will act on the Quincers but after acting on the engineers one, I almost think they have to.

Hi there,

Actually it's not even 3 per faction.

After you already have 3 (or more) of a restricted mission type, you won't see any more when you refresh the mission board menu screen.

You can accept any that you can see.

This is working exactly as was designed, but may well be revisited in the future.

Thanks,
Dom

I'm assuming then that the overpaid surface missions in Quince are not of this restricted mission type because as far as I'm aware you can stack plenty more than 3 (even more than 3 from the same minor faction) . It's also not logical to me that multiple missions (i.e. more than one) should be given out by the same minor faction to do the same thing at the same destination. For example, 3 mission to go and surface scan a data point at the same planet base. Makes no sense yet Quince is doing this repeatedly and paying an imbalanced amount for such a mission considering it doesn't even involve leaving the system.
It's game mechanics like this that need fixing Galaxy-wide.

I've worked damn hard to unlock all the Engineers and fully upgrade all 8 ships in my fleet. I've felt pretty rewarded by the outcome, generally like the Engineering process and didn't have to cheat to get there.

If you take how significant the difference is between an Engineered and non Engineered ship is, and then add that to the greifing and gangking that can then come out of that kind of advantage, I find myself fully supporting the action that Frontier have taken.

Moreover, I find it even more surprising that the culprits feel they have the right to complain over the decision ...?

I'd argue it's the salt coming back. It's all fun and games laughing about rivers of salt, until they are shed from your own eyes...

Maia was empty of triangles, as was Shinrarta; I stopped by in a T-9. [haha]
I was in Lave and the only ones I saw in Supercruise were actual Pirates. I was even interdicted by them and they took my Eggs (jokes on them though, they don't work for the CG!), but let me leave afterwards. It was quite enjoyable to jump into a CG system and not having dozens of triangles circling, and never knowing who's a pirate and who's just there to kill you. I recommend people who haven't been in Open for a while to atleast stick their heads in and say hi. It's a completely new day out there, and the sun seems to be shining :)

PS: Is posting in this thread considered exploiting the Rep system? ;)

It's really a bug, or an oversight. It should have been multiple similar missions, but different locations on the planet surface. The idea would be that once you scan one, you'd need to take off and got tot he next, which is perfectly reasonable. the problem is, someone overlooked something (and clearly, it ain't a simple fix), and scanning any base completes all missions.

To compare it to the real world, imagine a courier turning up at a depot to deliver 50 packages. they should be going to 50 different addresses, but for some reason, said courier is getting away with delivering everything to a single address.

Nobody seems to have mentioned it but it seems highly probable (Especially given that a certain beloved commander was seen in online in solo earlier today) that the ship which shot down and killed Salome Loren was modded with these rolls.....

It's irrelevant whether Salome's death had anything to do with exploited modules or not. What is relevant is that the person in question has been exposed as an exploiter now. It seems bad form to give any kind of credit in the book to someone with a now tarnished reputation.

Lets not forget the fact that most cheaters cheat because they SUCK at the game, and wouldn't have a chance if skill were the only determining factor as to who wins and who loses.
That may be true for some, but not all of them. Remember that some of these guys have won the PvP League three years straight, and that is a League that has among the best pilots in the game and there is only one Grade 1 mod allowed for any ship. It is a competition were skill is at the forefront.

I understand what you're saying, but that's not true in all circumstances.

I don't believe that, and never will.

25 years of playing online Multi-Player informs me otherwise.
See my reply above. Believe what you will, but facts are facts.

25 grade 5 ships here.

I agree completely.

True enough. All these guys do is pvp and they can be very skilled at it. That said, I don't mind losing to skill and I'm glad the god roll exploit has been appropriately dealt with by FD. Rinzler, for example (and I don't think he lost much if anything) can do magic with his piloting. He makes many experienced players look like novices by comparison.

I'm kinda loving reading all the salty posts today. Salt from the heavens coming from the very people who claim to be salt miners. Hilarious.

People exploited a bug, same as they exploited an Engineers bug. They both only got what the game otherwise provides.
There is a very clear bias exhibited by many when it comes to this fact.

"Oh no, no no. It's not cheating if I do it..."

I'm not arguing. Just making the point that it should not work like that, and that the fix clearly isn't simple, or it would have been done ages ago.

The fix is just as easy as it was this time. But the wall of butthurt would be stratospheric.

It's from a Pearl Jam music video- Do the Evolution (Baby). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDaOgu2CQtI

I always did like the animation. The song is fun for a listen or two, but I don't love it.

I agree. The animation reminds me of a Heavy Metal skit drawn by the 90s Batman cartoon team; some messed up stuff going on. The song I also agree, kinda meh, like they were pretending to be the Dead Kennedys one day all high in the studio or somesuch.
