The $200 Million Maia 1v1 Challenge!

That was a very tough Annie!

Could TheBlackVegetable be persuaded to share his build?

He was running a huge PA, three pacifier cannons, four rails, an Elite NPC fighter hanger, hull reinforcements, a few point defenses, and a biweave shield w/four boosters.

That's correct - the target lock breaker effect on PAs, well, breaks target lock. There's a moment in Round 4, though, when I untarget/retarget to reset module targeting. I was trying to take down his power plant and realized he had it armored.

And Ashnak, I would have/will consider life support failure to be a legit win. If I get my canopy blown out, I now have a hard timer to finish the fight.

Thank you CMDR TheBlackVegetable for the dramatic fight in Round 4!

Brutal. The pressure from that SLF was pretty constant too. Really enjoying your vids Urion. Also, it's got me convinced I must get my hands on those hammers. I also saw that vid of you interdicting a T7. Nice job. Not an easy task. Ive had heaps try and pull me out of SC in mine with no luck. That ship is built to be nearly invulnerable against interdictions.

That was a great fight, two very equally matched pilots really leads to some tense moments. As Ozram said, that SLF was really keeping pressure on your shields in the beginning, and definitely helped wear them down consistently. Really enjoyed that one!

Cmdr Urion, I am really enjoying these videos.
Its very interesting to see a real 1v1 joust of heavy hitters.
I realize how.. how far outclassed all my ships are.

Yeah, for me, I do have a few pretty decent setups. The piloting and accuracy is where I'm outclassed. It's great fun when you realise that and don't let it get to you. I recommend anyone interested in pvp to go out there a few times with the intent to lose your ship. After that initial shock, it won't matter much anymore and you can focus on enjoying the encounter.

Why do sdc dudes feel the need to keep trying to attention w****, both here on the forums and on reddit?

Like...we get it. You shoot people. So do I. So do thousands of other commanders. We don't need a new thread about each and every ship that you've ever shot or are going to shoot. Also, 20 mil is chump change.

You guys act like an insecure early 20's college girl, always fishing for compliments or validation. Are the forums/reddit SDC's version of instagram?

I think it's awesome. Adds something to the game. we seem to constantly be waiting for content, and here's another payer offering 20 million for a PvP match. That's great, to newer players that's serious cash. And for a lot of players, at least something fun to do.

Until aliens 👽 are here to burst our bubble, and force us to start strategizing to save our existence (which, I really hope is existence threatening, like failing systems and governments, possibly no where safe to be. Ever.), can't knock a cool challenge like this.

Me too, but not just my ships but my skills ... I really, really need to git gud!

Urion, I note you don't fly FA OFF exclusively (selectively yes, but not often)...what controller/s do you use?

Good stuff, really loving watching this challenge.

Round 2 ... and Round 4

Yeah, I lost Round 2 & 4. This is an interesting experience; having people come out prepared to fight me 1v1. I already knew my loadout was not 1v1 optimized, as I was out at Maia loaded for bear to fight big ships in wing fights specifically. The event was a spontaneous last minute thing in response to the negativity the engineers exploit action caused. The money is all about rewarding people who engineered fairly, and this is a test to see who comes out in an engineered ship. Even my subpar 1v1 setup would walk all over a stock ship, but if you come out with an engineered ship even remotely tailored for pvp, you stand a better than average chance of walking away with some cash. I could have said "show me you still have engineered stuff and I'll give you cash", but doing it through combat is more fun. I've already learned a lot about the disadvantages of this setup myself and will be making changes once it's over...like no more hybrid shield/hull tanking w/no SCBs. I'll be switching to either a biweave or a C4 prismatic with a C5/C4 SCB setup.

In fact, the people in rounds 4 and 5 both said something like "I hope to get some hits in" or "I know I can't win, but..." and they both won good fights. I ended up losing the next two rounds I have yet to post against a frag vulture and a disco anaconda (I won't hear the end of it from the SDC guys if they find out about THAT one haha).

Thanks for all the kudos, Ozram. And yeah, when I started pvp'ing I typically had only 4 or 5 rebuys and would pop into solo to grind cash once it dropped to like 3. Having real consequences for fights really make them exciting, a fact I'm relearning as I actually have stage fright during these rounds knowing I'll be paying 30 mil (prize + rebuy) for losses AND that they'll be up for public scrutiny. It's been white knuckles and silly mistakes. I'm 2/4 now (and the first was a gimme) and starting to wonder if I'll get an actual win streak!

Best thread on the forum right now.

Thanks dude :D

Glad you like it, Clicker. And no, I don't FAoff exclusively. I should do it more, but I have 2 1/2 years of not using it for anything other than boost turns to get over. I know I'd get a bit more thruster performance out of vertical & lateral strafing if I did, but it's hard to trust letting go of the control FA gives you - especially since I use a beat up Thrustmaster TFlight X. I'm actually fighting with the thing right now, since I'm having a problem with over correcting. I loosened then tightened the bottom adjustment and now I can't find my "sweet spot" deadzone that I used for years. I'm noticing it a lot on these playbacks...where you can see the crosshairs jump sometimes after a shot or drift in a jagged way in the middle of the hammer firing.
