Epilogue
After a VERY long night incarcerated inside the alien base with nothing but the scrabbling of scavengers and the sounds of unpleasant dripping in the background to keep me company I awake from a disturbed sleep to find myself in much the same situation as yesterday.
After briefly expressing my opinion that, thanks, I've had a lovely stay, but I'd really quite like to go home now ..
.. I do the only sensible thing that anyone in need of rescue can do, I call the Fuel Rats (again) and Cmdr Altf3 (now free from whatever situation it was that detained him yesterday) leaps into action.
15 minutes later and in front of another bemused Cobra pilot (whose name I've forgotten - apologies sir) I am re-united with the B@st@rd (which has been patiently awaiting my return ever since I disappeared inside over 24hrs previously).
Rhanks a million Cmdr Altf3 - I owe you one!
So, what have I learned?
Well I'll tell you what, in all seriousness, this has been an absolute hoot. It felt like a real adventure. Sure, the goal (to get a ship inside the base and take some screenies) was daft, did nothing for my credit balance, my rep, my Pilots Federation rank or any of those other metrics by which so many people seem to measure their progress in this game. But I had an awesome experience, got myself a tale to tell, met some groovy people along the way and learned a lot!
I learned that things that can roll, when placed on the ground, can and will happily roll straight through open doorways situated further down a slope!
I learned (or rather reminded myself) what it was like to travel a long distance with a crummy jump range and how to cope with a weak Fuel Scoop which requires real skill to balance heat against time when you're in a hurry.
I learned how to really handle the AMFU (something I'd barely dabbled with up until now) and that repairing the Thrusters or FSD while in Supercruise is not a good idea.
I learned how to fly an Imperial Fighter sideways down corridors by switching back and forth between the cockpit and the external camera (OK, so maybe not a skill I'll use everyday, but you never know).
But most of all I learned that the best way to really REALLY enjoy this game has been right there on the box from the very beginning.

Thanks for listening and until next time ... o7 commanders!
P.S. I'm going to update the OP with a table of contents for those that are late to this thread and want to follow the story from the beginning.
