So... I'm now a "Serf".... :(

Isn't the station traffic controller random or based on the station type not faction?

Think it's faction based - the Feds seem to have more American voices, Imps, English and Chinese, Alliance, Europeans, and Independents, well they have that Scottish Guy. :)

So... after all this time being loyal to the Federation, I've decided to embrace the Empire instead.

Why?

Because of this:

The Empire has more varied accents and sexier-sounding traffic controllers that don't sound like they got up on the wrong side of the bed in the morning. They are SOOOOO WELCOMING!

So, I started working my way up the ranks, and I'm now a "SERF"~~!! YAY ME!

Wait, what?

Peel me a grape. ;)

I've not heard the Scottish Guy but I've heard a Scottish gal on a planetary base in Fed space. I can't recall where it is now, it's one of those bases I had a mission to deliver stuff to.

Heard a kiwi-sounding female once too on another planetary base in Fed (or maybe Alliance) space. Those are rare, few and far in between like that Texas girl...

I've heard Scottish, Australian, Russian, American and English Federation stations. I don't think the VO is determined by the faction.

And you can always tell a federal station. It's full of federal people, which is nasty enough, but their ATC sound just angry and constantly like they just want to knife people. Nasty lot. Remind me of the Mutants in Fallout. Just full of angry and wanting to kill everything.

Imperial? They know how to treat you right. ATC sounds like you are their best customer. Which, really, is probably true.

As for Alliance? Don't even get me started. They can't even figure out if you've landed or not. ;)

Serf's up, dudes! ;)

As for the station voices (which this thread seems to have devolved into a discussion of)... I've always found it amusing what the station announcers say. It speaks about the cultural attitudes you find in the superpowers.

The Federation, it's all about the credits: "Crashes cost, kill your speed, not your credit balance". The message: don't break the law, because that'll cost you money, and losing money is unpatriotic.

The Empire, it's all about keeping up appearances: "Blocking the landing pad is extremely rude. This station is equipped with the latest anti-ship weaponry in order to maintain decorum". The message: don't break the law, because you'll die of embarrassment, and embarrassment is unpatriotic.

The Alliance, it's all about everybody getting along: "Please stow your ship weapons. And please don't block the access corridor". The message: they don't really think they have the muscle to enforce their will on anyone, so they're forced to resort to politeness.

The Independents, are abrupt and to-the-point. "Vicious malcontents will be destroyed". The message: Shut up, do as you're told, get in, do your business, then go away and stop bothering us.

LOL thanks. Now I'm slowly moving my ships from Sol over to XuanGu (my chosen Imperial "home" system). Yeah I'm too cheap to spend money to have them move my ships for me :p

I'm also having my own bit of fun trying to work out those Chinese-sounding system names, and what they could be in Chinese writing. There's quite a number in Imperial space. Some sounded like place names, some like people's names. For example - Xuangu system, sounds like the name of a place somewhere, "Xuan Gu" (could also be a person's name)... but I dunno what the written Chinese form would look like.

The station in Sol, Li Qing Jiao, is a person's name. Who this person was, and what significance her contributions were, I dunno :D She must've been someone influential to get a station named after her. Maybe the station was named for this girl ---> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Qingzhao

Hey, I really like being Lord Admiral Starwind; it gets me into all sorts of parties!

In a way, that's what prompted me to spend more time in Imperial space. As I said, their ATCs are very welcoming, they don't sound like sour-es, and they make you feel welcomed.

I should maybe spend more time in Alliance space and see what's up with them. Basically I've only ever spent time around Lave/Leesti/Diso area (original start point), raised my rep with them to cordial, and then hardly ever been back there. I don't have any significant impressions of their ATCs or their station announcers, so it must be that they sound very similar to the Feds for me to take any special notice :)

The VO is clearly determined by faction, because the Imperial voices specifically reference the "Imperial Flight Operations Bureau" on approach. And I've traveled all over, and not heard the Imperial politeness in stations from any other faction.

Only in the Empire will you hear, "Gutamaya Tango-India-Mike, the Imperial Flight Operations Bureau welcomes you to our facility. We are honored by your visit. Station services have been informed of your arrival," and other equally warm greetings.
