Players are trying to stop YOU unlocking Prof Palin.

Even then Sirius would only know what MetaDrive was working on, not why or for whom. Sirius just tried to get informations about something big. Why try to force Sirius to reveal the things they have if you could try to force those who actually are involved in this conspiracy to reveal the truth?

I guess attacking Sirius is just easier.

For the record, I am not attacking Sirius. I have more important things to do :)

- Far too few people are engaging with the story and lore. Well, people want money for ships etc, of course. Play your own game, but consider that others might have entirely valid reasons for plsying their way.

That most players are not engaged with the story is primarily FDev's fault/decision. If you only play the game and don't bother watching youtube videos and read books about said game, you will know maybe 5% (probably way less ...) about what's going on with the lore. Most events are not even mentioned on GalNet (what is the least, one could expect). Currently, the lore is designed to be played by "VIP" groups and selected "celebs". Hell, I don't even really get what you guys are talking about with the conspiration and whatever. If the game doesn't tell me, I don't know and then nobody can't blame me for not taking part in it.

It's great timing that I'm going for my Sirius permit just as this malarky is happening. Still though, so far it's looking like more of an inconvenience than anything...

It sort of feels like we're about due for some sort of BGS group competition.
Maybe not another Rise To Power, but something to measure ourselves against each other.
INARA ranks by membership, but it would be good to see something that measured number of expansions, and population and wealth and so on.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but the thing I liked more than the possibility of becoming a power was seeing all the groups step into the spotlight and say "Here we are - this is what we do."
And then the ensuing noise and PR and maneuvering and slanging matches.

I just feel like I'm out of touch with who counts at the moment. Who's big, who made a daring grab, who pulled a system out from someone else.

Like the BGS itself it's all kinda hidden.

Anyway - you're right.
There's big stuff afoot and I should get off my lazy bum and push that forward.

Sirius Corporation have been under attack by a group of players for several weeks now. This is making it more difficult for players who haven't unlocked the engineer Prof Palin - He who is the source of the greatest engine enhancements and Thargoid related goodies.

In the last few days Sirius Corp have lost the Avik system and their influence in Sirius itself has been halved, if these lunatics are left unopposed...

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/362523-Assault-on-Sirius-Corporation

I hope the heroes who flipped Wolfberg can come out of retirement and provide some effective opposition to their old enemy.

Operation Sirius Business is to force Sirius in a retreat at Sothis, Ceos, and other far away systems. The systems neighbouring Sirius will not be effected. This has been made clear several times...

The group I linked in the OP explicitly say they will leave no system alone. The other merry band have promised to leave Procyon untouched, but that system has proved useless in the quest to obtain the invite to Marco Qwent.

That group contains some of the players responsible for the worst mischief making, nothing good ever comes from them. Left unopposed there is a real chance they will succeed.

I got the Sirius permit by doing missions out of Procyon. Hardly useless. I even got most of the modular terminals required at the same time.

Sirius Corp. has been portrayed as an extremely sinister and borderline evil organisation, I had a very bad taste in my mouth being forced to work for them. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

That's not quite in your hands now though, see the thing with making a big event public is that other groups joining can add on whatever they wish to it. Supposedly Procyon isn't being hit, but several players have reported being pulled in that area by Sirius blockades. Supposedly UA bombing isn't being sanctioned, but it's happening to Sirius stations anyway. Supposedly warnings are to be given to ships in the area before they get pulled and shot, but that's not the case.

That's the trouble with going public before or during an operation, you no longer control it and all the blame for any unintended consequences falls on the most vocal supporter. Not that I personally care, I have Palin and haven't been to Sirius space in a month or more, but this whole episode is quite amusing, the inevitable BGS backlash and counter attack will make for interesting news.

No Sirius station is being bombed. Check the latest starport status report if you don't believe me. Also, the guys that are blockading Procyon have nothing to do with OSB, they're doing it on their own.

The UA stuff is the only one I heard secondhand and not through a reliable source, from forum chatter from an infamous group known for doing UA bombing but who will go unnamed due to naming and shaming. And you can claim the other actions, which I can assure you I know are happening from video and friends in the area, aren't part of this operation all day, it doesn't change the perception that this is all because of it. No one cared about Sirius space before this happened, and an open invitation to attack Sirius and players in Sirius will obviously lead to escalation. It's naive to think that this operation can be so neatly regulated when you make it public during an operation.

If it were an OP I was in I'd make an announcement at or near the very end, with an announcement that a new goal is being reached for in an undisclosed area elsewhere by said operatives. That way any future action wouldn't be tied to the groups organizing said OP.

As a player who usually plays Solo and gives zero fox about power play, how does this affect me?

Getting Professor Palin engineer is harder now since there will be fewer systems and stations to build up Sirius rep with, and there is a risk of them going into lockdown. If you have Marco Qwent already and don't use Open it doesn't affect you.

Also it's not really a Powerplay thing

The main problem is that these people are nobodies.
No home system to wreck. No allegiance. They do not stand FOR anything.

Even SDC had a home to attack. These people are nothing.

When you have nothing to protect - you are worthless.

No buffalo to hunt...

No tribe to lead...

"What will we do for *fun*?

Babblebabblebabblebabble!

Go, Go, Gophers, watch'em go go go!

Go, Go, Gophers, watch'em go go go!

"Here comes the Colonel and His Sergeant, both a roaring and a charging!"

Go, Go, Gophers, watch'em go go go!

Go, Go, Gophers, watch'em GO GO GO!

:)

And Sirius Inc as well.
I like Sirius, don't get me wrong, it's just I can't remember who is who and who used to be and who cares about what.

This ^^

It might seem like shabby advice, but sometimes it's more efficient to "hurry up and wait".
Two teams battling it out over BGS assets are going to burn a lot of man hours grinding for a couple of percentage points.

It's sort of better to let the thing happen and then tidy up afterwards. BGS is an activity that plays out over months.

From what I understand, the most vocal supporters were evaluated by opposition groups but striking back was deemed pointless since the main instigators had Colonia holdings only, or in one case were a hired mercenary group and have no actual allegiance to the cause.

Marco Qwent (the stupid Bint)

Taken from Reddit user terenn_nash ;-

Procyon isnt blockaded, and will not be attacked. it will be maintained in sirius control to ensure access to qwent is not compromised. It does not have a black market and thus can't be UA bombed.

That being said - DONT GRIND OUT MISSIONS for sirius rep.

go to this system:

Col 285 Sector CX-J c9-8

scan everything with a DSS equipped, and turn the data in to a sirius controlled station in procyon, this will get you allied and then its a matter of the permit mission popping up.

I had the problem with the Modular Terminals but LHS 20 has a station that spawns at least one MT mission a click.

All organizations are sinister and evil. They're run by humans, so how can they be anything else?

Even the thargoids will scurry when the Spider Overlords return to clean out this part of their web.

Well some group was bragging about doing both, not that I can name them because of naming and shaming.

It's been brought to my attention that some people are blaming the group that ousted SDC from Wolfberg on the BGS attack against the Sirius Corporation. I can assure you that this is far from the truth.

The group is not trying to disrupt access to engineers in any way.

Well since we can't name them it could be we are referring to two different groups claiming credit on the former and just one of the two in the latter.
