I Play on Solo Play

I do drop into Mobius now and again when I want social interaction and meet new people. However, I usually find this a bit like getting on a bus... There are Plenty of people to meet but few are willing to exchange more than a passing o7 with you, let alone invest the time to develop friendships and potentially end up playing together. I have to admit that I find this depressing. CGs do seem to offer the opportunity for longer interactions with people and this is a nice opportunity. It would just be nice if more people in Mobius took a little more time to socialise with other people that they meet. It would add a lot of value to playing in such a group.

Mobius is firstly about safety,so I agree that interaction is at a minimum.
I play solo mostly too,not because of griefers but the lag, disconnects and instancing problems. Rubber banding is an immersion killer.

As the title says, I play on Solo Play, and I am not ashamed to admit it.

.

This forum really is a funny place. Op play how you want, I play in all three modes, would also love an offline mode. Pick a mode that makes you feel comfortable and log in, no need to justify what you do to a bunch of strangers on the internet.. As mentioned above, open mode isn't half as bad as people make out, you'll tend to get people on here that have had one bad experience then over exaggerate.

@G27, if you spend so much time in Mobius, how do you get the time murder all these fake Ace pilots in open? And doesn't that make you a griefer ;-)

But every time I go into Open Play I'm constantly worried that I'm going to be plagued by players or groups of players that do nothing but harass and bully.

Most of the time, either in Mobius or Open, I play for hours without any CMDR contact. In my 1700 hours in Elite, of which 50% is in Open, I've never been
  • interdicted
  • attacked by another player
  • griefed
  • ganked

In fact all I've got from most CMDRs is a "o7", and sometimes you make a "friend". Most of the time, everyone is just going about their own business.

I've just completed a 3 week trip from the bubble to Colonia in my Vette in Open, and I did not come across one CMDR on my 1400jump journey. Not one. I kept on having to check that I was indeed in Open and not in Solo.

Space is big and there's not enough players of Elite to fill that space.

Nothing wrong with Solo. Multiplayer is something which has been done to death for the last 17 years, and honestly I'm rather tired of it.

That's an interesting point too.

If I'm honest, I was already "over" multiplayer games back when id released Quake 3 Arena.
Very few multiplayer games manage to rise above the idea of just running around like a maniac, killing everybody else that you meet.

A game designer might have gone to quite a bit of effort to create a game where you have to, say, collect up a bunch of stuff so that you can build a thing which activates a thing which gives you another thing so you can do something else but, as soon as you make it a multiplayer game, all that happens is that people will figure out where the "bottleneck" in the process is - the place where everybody has got to go, sooner or later - and that inevitably becomes THE place where all the action happens, over and over again.
Counter-Strike provides the most obvious example of this problem.
It doesn't matter how big the maps are, what the objectives are or who's playing.
The fights always occur in the same places, in the same way, for the same reasons, over and over again.

ED does a fairly good job of avoiding that, simply by making the galaxy so big and giving people the ability to do the same stuff in hundreds of different places.
Even so, it still happens to some extent, which is why you get so much trouble at engineer bases and CG locations etc.

Seems like Mobius is full. Reached maxed number of members. I wonder why...
is it really? maybe I should delete my account on there. used once found it boring. I always play in open.
I like the fact I never know what is going to happen when other Cmdr's are around.
adds to the game immensely, real risk.

update. both my Mobius/n pve are now closed

Extremely exaggerated is also correct, the odds are so very slim to actually run into a griefer, in fact a lot of times I barely see PvPers in Open at the CGs, let alone the smaller subset that would be called griefers, and when I do there are enough players around that the chances of being pulled randomly are still slim. Furthermore by having a decent loadout (which need not be engineered, see the video link I put before) you reduce the likelihood of even becoming a target further down. And if you do get pulled a proper loadout will see you get clear.

Now if one wants to be in solo or private that's their choice, but this claim that Open is a place where everyone is out to kill you is laughable.

Obviously not. There are enough people with in-game experiences that say otherwise.

Yes, if you don't go to the popular places or the engineers bases or CGs, then you are probably correct. But, these are the places that commanders want to go for trading. engineering and so on and it seems that these malcontents (that's a diplomatic term for a holes) congregate at the popular locations to spread their brand of grief around.

But that's not the point. The point is that there are enough malcontents to make people like the OP, myself and others not want to bother with Open. Like the OP I am also an introvert but unlike the OP my introversion is such that I just do not want to deal with other people in games, real-life or otherwise. I don't even like dealing with people when there are more than 6 or 7 in a group. I just do not have that social imperative.

I am an Elite Soloist and I am proud of it.

Repped.

Hello,

OP, dont feel bad at all!

I like playing in Mobius and SOLO, when I am not in a mood to see the rebuy screen (even so I regularly see it, due to stupid things I do ingame and mistakes)...

When I go into OPEN, I do it in disposable smaller ships, whose rebuy does not hurt so much. But when I do go OPEN, and the poop hits the fan (someone wants me dead for some reason), I usually try to escape, comunicate, and if I am forced to, FIGHT TO DEATH.

Fly safe in any mode you enjoy the most ;) Karlos

Now approaching 29 weeks game time I believe. I'd say at least 20 weeks of that in Open. The other 9 weeks early on after release.

I have been interdicted many times, but not enough.
I have been attacked many times, but not enough.
I have been attacked by full wings Vs just me, but not enough.
And
There have been attempted griefings. Meh.

It all represents the adrenaline/fun/memorable highpoints of my ED experience. Even the attempted griefings. I could only have experienced those in open.

Still, nothing wrong with solo or PG. What is are the lies, misconceptions and ignorance that dominates the discussions.

My simple message boils down to ..... Open is not the dread abyss it is often portrayed as. Eyes wide open and if you decided to drop into high traffic areas, and PvP/risk is not your thing, then do it in another mode.

Fly safe, wherever you are.

As above, it's really not as hysteria-inducing as the PvE folk of the forum will have you believe.

Either way, not many people would outright complain at people for playing Solo. It's when people try to take Open play and turn it into "Solo play with the odd hollow square" that induces the real facepalming.

If ya don't like it, do what you've done - play without the hollow squares or play in private only with hollow squares you know/trust.

Credit to you OP. I guess it depends what you want from the game. Me? I want to chill out after being at work all day so I generally go solo or Mobius. This way I can enjoy the game for what it is, doing what I want without having to deal with interruptions from socio/psychopaths trying to glean some warped retribution by spoiling someone's day because they were bullied/abused as a child. I do play open occasionally and can hold my own but find it tiresome, especially this time of year with the kids who just want to pew pew without so much of an o7.

Care bear? Maybe but a Care bear would 'care' about what other people think of them... so I guess that counts me out. :)

... I'm a very introverted person. That doesn't mean I'm shy or am otherwise adversed to playing with other people. I just means I don't feel the same drive or thrill from doing so. If and when I'm presented with the opportunity to play with others, I'm more than happy to engage. But after it's over I need to recharge. It's draining rather than energizing. As a result, I generally tend to be more selective about how and when I spend my time, and who I'm spending it with. ...

Introversion isn't a bad thing and as you say it's not the same thing as "shy". Society needs us people who think carefully about things.
