Elite: Dangerous Mega Survey Results

Yes, that is one of the uses it can be used for, so what.

Look up the definition which you have ignored which is:

The greater number.

So what? Because in a voting process that's exactly how it's used. Heavens above, I hope you never enter politics. You'll be only the dude jumping up and down thinking you won the majority and your motion passed because your party got 49% of the votes.

I didn't ignore it; I outright pushed it aside because you're using it in the incorrect context.

Which game mode do you more regularly choose?
12601 out of 12601 people answered this question
Open 49%
Solo 28%
Private Group 23%

49% is greater than 28%.
49% is greater than 23%.
But 49% is NOT greater than 51% ( which is what you get when you combined the two results ).

The majority is held by Solo and PG combined.

This is how it works dude.
Whilst the word itself means the greater number, the context in which the word is used means it's MORE THAN HALF .. which is, obviously, THE GREATER NUMBER.

I've watched enough politics to understand how majority rule works; and in any voting process, majority is always 50% + 1%.

I just quoted oxford back at you, with the correct usage and you still argue.

A picture is worth a thousand words (or definitions of the word "majority").

Interesting survey, especially the popularity of exploration and the desire for improvements to it. But then pretty much every other Elite survey ever done comes out the same way, that exploration is super popular. Hopefully Frontier's development focus someday reflects popularity that too.

Politics and a vote on open, PG and solo are miles apart. They don't even compare. In UK politics, they need an overall majority so they can vote their policies in without opposition. This is not in the slightest relevant to the poll.

Regardless, most people don't play in open regularly. If you take the survey as anything but stuffs.

This isn't about politcs.

This is about the people polled in this survey. The majority of people do not play in open. There is no other way round it.

He is merely using politics as example to help you understand.

Once again: The majority of people who took part in this survey do not play in open!

Which for the record is a shame.

Open for the win.

Also good to see Pirate is the least popular profession. Makes it more exclusive I reckon.

Rep OP.

Presumably very since the totals add up to significantly less than even one PG (i.e Mobius).

But biased in which direction?
Are Mobius players more or less likely to be on Reddit and respond to surveys?
Are they evangelical about PGs and likely to recruit friends to complete the survey?

Self-selecting surveys like this are great because you can agree with all the conclusions you approve of and discount the others as being biased. Everyone's a winner! :D

Votes were taken, you calculate them accordingly - politics or otherwise, you treat them the same.
Individually, Open beats both Solo and PG; in which case, yes, Open has majority over EACH game type.

However, stating that the majority of players are in Open is factually incorrect because in order for this to be so, Open players would need to have the overall majority; which they do not have.
