How much of an impact do you truly believe rebuys have on murder hobo'ing?

I seem to have missed much of the 'murder hobo'ing' and 'griefing'. Being in Western Australia I play well outside of the American and Eastern European time zones so I don't encounter that kind of "emergent gameplay". :)

That's cause you're not doing it right. You need to like... rustily fly your E-Rated, unshielded explora-conda into Jameson Memorial after having come back from a 13-month circumnavigation solo-explo trip along the outer rim, while watching netflix on your second monitor.

*edit*

Yes, I realize that this comment was vastly exaggerated.

No, I think you don't understand the situation. Today Sandro himself made it quite clear that griefing will be addressed by the karma system and not the increased rebuys. The new rebuy mechanic simply exists to fix an exploit.

And where was this posted/stated?

I sadly wish it wasnt. I remember the days of angry responses IN CAPS for suggesting people shouldnt fly unshielded.

Never understood that concept. I think it takes a special kind of ADHD sufferer to watch films and play video games at the same time.

Aw, it's relaxing. I used to to do it all the time before I got VR. Still consider flying in 2D so I can do it sometimes...

...in Solo, where nobody can bother me.

Trying to control the ship on monitor 1 while scooping and preparing for the next jump and then initiating said jump and following it through, while at the same time trying to concentrate on what Jon Snow on monitor 2 is saying to... whoever he was talking to... Damn! I'm scooping too deep and overheating... Pull up and away! What was that Tyrion said? Eject heat sink! Dragon approaching - this will be a good scene. Wait! I need to jump to the next star first. Monitor 1, monitor 2, monitor 1...

How in any way whatsoever could that possibly be "relaxing"?

Nah man, for true Netflix enjoyment you don't leave the station.

I made 3 billion creds that way, no macros, just muscle memory. Didn't even need to look at the main screen by the end, except very occasionally with one corner of one eye. Just tap tap tappety tap.

My wife knits while we watch our favourite series, each to their own.

I wouldn't say that's wrong, but how is that in any way enjoyable?

When my dear old mother (non-descript imaginary deity rest her soul) knitted while half-following Foyle's War, I think in some way she enjoyed both. But tap tap tappety tap? I find that hard to comprehend...

Hey man, sometimes there ain't nothing of great interest going on, but you want to fly anyway. OK, I'll knock out some haulage missions... watch some Always Sunny while I'm at it, chat with some friends.

I used to be big on that on the weeknights... just relaxing and not worrying about entertaining anyone but myself.

...Because let's face it - if you expecting to have your hair blown back every time you log into this game, then you're definitely playing the wrong game ;)

Yep.

Humans have done this since we could capture or make stuff to drag us around places. Sometimes you're not going anywhere, you're just travelling because you feel like doing so.

It's like taking a drive in the country with the radio on and the windows down; you don't need to be accomplishing anything else or have a set goal or destination. Elite can provide that vibe, probably a bit better than it does I AM OF FILL WITH ADRENALEENS though that can still be found too if you look enough.

On the main topic, I have to agree with everyone here that's saying financial disincentives don't seem like they're going to be of much deterrence if any. I also think the concepts seen here about making criminal-minded players some decent criminal gameplay would be a good direction to pursue as an additive measure instead of always trying to cut or eliminate things. I'd wager with more shady and shooty gameplay available only the truly ridiculous folks will continue to be a legitimate bother and can be dealt more easily by outgame options such as mode restrictions and bans and such.

Ingame it should include a better-functioning system authority dynamic than the current general disregard for system security levels by everybody, because honestly I would like to have more than no care at all about what system I jump through in any given ship doing anything. Better cops in systems that should have them, because playing cops and robbers without any good cops is pretty lame.

Crime has to have meaning and context within the game beyond mere finances, and I think for both sides of the law as well, or it really is kind of meh and not worthy as a Pretend Spaceman career; probably my biggest judging tool for anything in the game, How Great Is This To Pretend Spaceman With. If I was going to be chased into the space wilderness to fend for myself in the cutthroat parts of the galaxy with no insurance, no cops outside of system warlordism, and risky wildly-variegated ship RRnR and modding with chances to make a name for myself as a pirate in a piratical home region, I would want to check out that gameplay tomorrow. Sorry to any future CMDRs if this ever becomes implemented but I will try to take your stuffs. >_________>

What's your source for that, babs?

You don't mind if I call you babs, do you?
Sure, call me Babs, sweetheart.

Hello Commander Clicker!

The aim of this particular change is to address the exploit of switching ships to avoid rebuy costs. Hopefully, by the end of this process, this will be achieved, whislt leaving the rest of the game unchanged (i.e. it should be no worse).

I think that addressing the issue of Commanders using ramming tactics to force crimes is more a job for karma.

That's a rather bold position to take.

Attention deficit comes at little cost in this game. Which is why it is closer to 'grinding' than 'playing'.

Nobody watches netflix while 'playing' an engaging game. You don't exactly watch Netflix and presume to win a round in Counter-strike or whatever other game comes to mind if for anything but its own sake.

Ha ha, it's deferred reward.

Basically a lot of PvP-ers like me min/max aspects of the game, particularly on the acquisition side, so as to have more time in which to PvP.

I can play this game at most 20 hours/week. So I have at most 1,000 hours/year in which I could, possibly, PvP. But in practice only a % of that due to the need to devote time to other things in game ... currently RNGineering being the most time consuming.

I do stuff like take a month out from playing properly in order to make a few billion using the absolute fastest possible method available at the time because, across the year, this approach maximises the proportion of the 1,000 hours in which I can actually do the thing I want to do most.

It's hardcore time management!

why....if hatch breaker limpets pass through shields would a pirate need aggression?
I mean I usually interdict, target, hatch break, might fire off a lag missile to stop hyperjumping before all their cargo has dropped but that's it.
nice clean and simple....and quite a rush

Scattered cargo takes time. Time is essential, especially since the time-based security update.
I really like the 'force' method. It just doesn't compete to a T9 submitting to the release of 10~20~30~% of his cargo.
So if 30% of his cargo doesn't even break you even, neither is betting on 4 to 20 tons.

*nods*

And if a target is running, the loot despawns after a set distance
