FRONTIER ANNOUNCES JURASSIC WORLD EVOLUTION

Will be interesting to see how this turns out. Now I'm having flashbacks to playing Zoo Tycoon with the dinosaur DLC :D

So if we cross JP:E and ED we get this then? :D

The trailer looks cool.

Development of this game can only mean good things for future content of ED.

...but not so good for the development speed of that content :p

'Think I'm overly pessimistic? Erm Horizons has taken nearly two years to complete - empirical evidence & past behaviour would suggest I'm bang-on the money!

...to quote JJ, Frontier "I dare you to do better!"

Erm, Horizons has taken nearly two years and still isn't complete.

Plus (tell me if I am wrong) Frontier still hasn't said when it will be.

No, but they have said from the start that it would be a multi-year project. FD hopes to be expanding the Elite universe for many years to come.

Frontier's creature work has always been a little under appreciate I feel, since it's been in more family orientated games. The dinos in this should be great.

With some 300 devs iirc, Frontier will hardly have taken every Elite dev and moved them onto their other two or three games. Horizon however has had the peculiar "season" model of pay first, get the content later. Meaning they've in all likelyhood already made most of the money they can by selling the addon. We know that they still plan atmospheric landings, space legs etc.. It's likely enough then, that the smallest number of Elite devs is actually working on Horizons stuff and the larger part on post-Horizon addons - which can earn them fresh money. Hopefully!

Otherwise coming Elite addons may suffer from the same problem as Horizons: Nearly no content at launch, but functional additions sprinkled over a span of two years instead. We'll hopefully get a glimpse at what's coming out of Frontier Con in October.

Oh, Jurassic World! Park building with dinosaurs? Sounds intriguing. Of course, also because of the dream of eventually go big game hunting for a proc-gen space T-Rex in Elite. :p

Edit: I'm very happy Frontier gets to work on such an iconic IP. Here's hoping you people at Frontier will do it justice!

Sounds fun and certainly is a good fit with Frontier's other stuff.

Assuming they build on Planet Coaster, they'll need to put a lot of work into animation and AI behaviours - monsters rampaging around, prey running away, various types of human combat behaviour. Perhaps FD still has some Kinectimals code on a basement server somewhere.

And assuming this all feeds into Elite at some point, I'm hyped for 2019. :)

I wonder what gameplay will look like. If the game objective is to run the park well and keep guests safe, then that would seem to run counter to what's most fun - the dinosaurs wrecking everything and killing everybody. I guess it could be scripted so that a few rampages are inevitable.

If I can make one suggestion: Give at least some of these beasts some feathers.
We have known for a while now that these ancestors of our birds had them.

Because this game is based on the Jurassic Park franchise, none of the dinosaurs will have feathers. Even though when the book was written, and the film was made, the link between birds and dinosaurs was becoming apparent - there was no clear evidence (at that time) that Dinosaurs had feathers. Later when it emerged that Dinos did indeed have feathers - especially for Velociraptors, people did question if they'd be shown as feathered in later films - but they explained it away by saying that because the Dinosaurs in JP are genetically modified and spliced with Frog DNA, that they are not feathered. If this changes at all in future films then perhaps that will be reflected in the game, but I think Frontier will be taking Universal's lead on stuff like that rather than that of scientific consesus.

OT: Please do justice to this, Frontier (I know you will).
