Star Citizen Thread v6

Well to be fair, it has been a while since I last went into ED. But when I last went to a planet we had a transition (loading screen), between space and planet. That could well have changed, I look forward to it, if it has, next time I play.
It's not changed, it's always been that way since Horizons. You need to stop assuming so much on the basis that Elite MUST be worse than SC.
NPC's, well more for actual human size, game wise, content. I like to see other characters in-game, I prefer NPC's to look at, than human players. At least you tend to know what an NPC will do. But ED introduced transporting people, do you not think it would have been nice to see those people getting on your ship.. I would like to see them. As of now, they're a box, well not even that, we don't get to see anything, concerning that side of the game.
To me this has no more interest than watching cargo get loaded. It'll just be different models with maybe more animation and some canned responses.
The scale, for me, has yet to be proved in ED. Its very easy to say, this ship is this large when you don't have a character stood next to it, one that you can move around and walk onto your ship and interact with it. I said in the post, FD said all this was going to come, eventually, but it isn't there yet, so we can't brag, until it arrives. That is all I was saying.
Plus, as said in the post, I'll be more than happy when this happens. Because it proves all my doubts are wrong. Until then, I'm sorry, but its just not happening for me, scale wise, in ED.
You should try playing in VR - also look for doors. I had someone post a picture on Facebook asking what the strange little pixie door was for on a T9 laughing at it being silly - had to actually point out it was a proper human size door in the bit that drops down so you can exit the ship.... the ship is just HUGE. it's all already there but people don't look and think things through. Walking might rub it in people's faces, but it's all already there just being denied by the "SC MUST BE BETTER" faction.

Guys, you're going to get the yaffle monster coming soon if you don't quit the off-topic.

On topic, still the same thing going on and on and on.....

Yeah, its ok, but still, nothing new. Ok, night time, landed on the night side. But, nothing special.

Still waiting to see something you know.... like gameplay loops rather than just messing around.

We can only pray for his forgiveness - I think it's important that we compare like for like, and that will mean correcting some misunderstandings about what goes on in Elite. We've not wandered off into discussing just Elite, only the comparisons...... *covering donkey*

I can't put my mod hat on here, but i suspect the line will be drawn when you stop making a casual comparison and instead start getting into arguments about ED.

Back to topic - pretty flight at the moment, although funny moment when one guy shot the pilot and nothing happened. Although we have seen in earlier builds how this is possible. You can shoot people and steal their ship, at least in space, so something wrong with this build or perhaps because this is a separate area with different rules.... or just a bug.

Oh man, they just slammed into the ground at speed and nothing happened to the ship. No kaboom, rather disappointing.

Still, apparently Roberts will be on soon.

Interesting - only 2500 following the livestream on youtube out of over 1 million "citizens"... and that 2500 includes people like me, who are not exactly fans.

Bit of a poor show, although, having said that, time of the day matters. Maybe the numbers will pick up later. A lot of fans will be asleep at the moment.

I've not seen walking in ED, also there was a great debate in the ED forums regards loading screens and how well they were done. So no, loading screens were there. As for SC must be better... I got a refund, so I'm not in that camp at all. But there-again Space Engineers is better than both at present, for me that is. So I'm not in the ED camp either.
Ed has no scale yet. I can't use a VR headset, I dare say things 'might' seem large. But really for me, when they get someone or something walking around in ED, you'll just not convince me. ;)

Just watched Sgt. Gamble(?) fly his ship straight down into Daymar. Jared told him to let go of the stick. The ship stopped dead, pointing straight down and nothing happened. Jared then joked that the cockpit was made of Gorilla Glass 9000. Yeah, they all had a little giggle over that one.

Not sure the same same could be said of the backers. That was pitiful. They then cut to a pre-placed wrecked ship and explained that's what the ship should have looked like.

I find myself less and less interested in 3.0 from minute to minute. Sure, this isn't the real 3.0 but what they could cobble together for the show but even so. When will the real 3.0 be released with all these issues fixed up?

Another thing that bothers me...the Nox. When the player turns left the bike leans over to the right. They do know how bikes work don't they?

This is not the metric of scale. There are a buttload of games where you don't walk around with plenty of sense of scale.

The only loading screen in play is the jump to a new system. This is exactly why and how come the videos I posted were made - did you even watch them? I think you need to go check what you're talking about so you have a fair comparison against SC. Generally I get the impression your mind is set on this topic and you're not even going to go look or check.

For me the scale in SC is the funny thing when we've got people flying in and out of the atmosphere of this world within minutes... it's so tiny!

Survey: Does anybody know where and how the data was acquired?

yeah I m not buying it :) This rather stinks like the funding tracker or the backer number where people simply swarm sites with alt accounts to affect a poll or result.

and I reckoned Gamescom might have shaken the conversation out of its usual stale circle.

I wonder how you managed to get to that conclusion? Its the same old same old. CiG offers nothing promised and manages to show completely unfinished and disappointing stuff which reeks of smoke & mirror and overall is a laughing show. Another highly anticipated date was broken and the community is left alone with discussions wondering about what this all means. What exactly could ve "shaken" the usual stale circle up in your opinion? A snarky remark? We do get those all the times even without special occasions or did you provide any information which could break the cycle? Sorry I missed it, need to reread your posts I guess.

Gamescom managed to break the cycle over at Reddit tho....not sure if thats a "+" for Star Citizen. Or maybe you speak because you know the program for the rest of the week in which case you should ve waited until after Gamescom so we can discuss things on equal footings. Oh man, sorry I already wrote more then you did and I managed to state as much as you.....zero. Lets hope for the best for friday eh?

I watched it as it streamed - it never happens. They go up very high, and back down again (or eject), but there is no planetary entry/exit per se. Will have the stream running in the background today and will see if they show anything different.

but....but

We're watching them seamlessly go into space and back down, literally as I'm typing this. They've done it multiple times on stream already. There's no cutscene.

One of you guys is wrong but I watched the footage myself so I already know who misrepresents the actual content and isnt shady enough to try to sell it for the real thing :) Like always with certain people both of you are technically correct when examining the "wording" but you guys are talking about radically different things and one of you is very wrong about "planetary transitions".

A bone? Not that substantial, for me it's just some fat under a nicely cut but half-cooked skin.

You got it all wrong, so far its the picture of a nice steak cooked to perfection surrounded by a harmony of side dishes in a beautiful restaurant.

Thank you Rolan, very appreciated. I d be interested in how you judge the given description compared to the actual footage available from the GC. I m asking because theres a massive difference between what this dude describes and what I can see for myself and I wonder if its me and I somehow transformed into a hater without noticing. PMs work as well /cheers

Send me?
To do damage control?
Are you mad?

What a funny remark :)

Well I am sure you didnt come here to enter into the discussion about Daymar being a limited level, or how limited it is or it isnt, 64b etc.

Speaking of damage, you sure you dont want to offer a new wee update on VR? :D

Or the 64bit engine? /giggle

On a sidenote I d like to commend Frontier for its Forum system. Especially the inability to neg-rep posts and posters. The things I was privileged to read on the last few pages will help me a great deal in my upcoming psychology classes and serve as prime examples for some serious human conditions. Well at least this place remains civil and positive in its manners. Snark and sarcasm usually is highly deserved and just a reminder to people that it requires more then blind faith and mental gymnastics to enter the discussion. Now the only things I can do in order to "judge" obvious shills and white knights is to either ignore them or banter. Anything else will be moderated and the highly abused neg-rep system from Reddit is absent thankfully. I often feel the urge to use "stronger" language to bring a point across and feel very thankful for the constant reminder that this place is a heaven for everybody enabling every opinion regardless. Its the prime reason I m still around. Okay I m done sucking up now :)

As far as the GM stream goes I watched some of it yesterday against my better judgement and was only enforced in my opinion about Star Citizen. A complete waste of my time when I have "real" things I could do like poke a fork in my eyes or something /kidding. I realize that the live stream is kinda pointless and nothing is gained from watching the drama in real time as it unfolds. I m better off waiting for highlights and compressed versions coming up over the day, I dont really believe there will be anything different today, the next point of interest is CRoberts friday presentation or maybe Erins stage later today. In the meantime a lot of usually quiet forums and threads on other sites have gotten some serious traffic because of the Gamescom so I ll be entertained :)

Just take a look at the comments of their stream on Youtube...
I didn't expect to see that.
Literally 90% of top comments are showing just how much people have run out of patience.

Wow, that is worse than i expected. And the fans' comments aren't helping paint a good picture either.

You seem very confused here. There is no difference in providing a sense of scale between placing a standing human or sitting human next to it. You can see youtsekf in the SRV and the bridge from outside cams, so it is increadibly easy to see the scale being 1:1. The idea you need walking for scale is silly at best.

SC does scale well in ships/stations. But space/planets seem very small. No need to walk to notice.

Erin Roberts interview makes it clear again: Questions are usually answered by referring to a range of possible solutions and outcomes, nothing is set in stone, everything is vaguely planned. Impressive how they managed to stick to the same mode of communication since the beginning of the project.
