This game desperately needs Player Trading NON pay cosmetics and a TRADE HUB.

I kinda am unable to see the Massive part or the Multiplayer part most of the time and i especially lack to see the combination of both. On the other side, my standards might be slightly off because i am used to Eve and its version of massive multiplayer that involves hundreds (even thousands) of players slugging it out.

Mobius alone has nearly 40 thousand members playing ED. The instancing in this game tends to hide how many people are actually floating around. The CGs in LTT 377 this past weekend had nearly 10 thousand individual contributors for the trade one, and I think nearly 11 or 12 thousand for the combat one.

Not sure that there was ever a hard number put on the definition of 'massively multiplayer', but we've a fair number of folks playing the game as a whole, which should increase once the PS4 release hits.

I think what a lot of people tend to overlook is that this game operates on multiple platforms, in multiple modes, which don't always allow you to see just how many people are actually there. Unfortunately, the choice of networking and instancing is likely going to prevent us ever seeing things on the same scale as you'd see in Eve or other similar games.

People are way to focused on narrow definitions of very broad terms, yes elite is an MMO, yes its also a Singleplayer Game - if it suites your own definiton or not.

I agree with this. My personal problem is, that certain expected features are considerably lacking or are only implemented on a very basic level. There is little to no interactions with others aside from combat related stuff happening in the game. There is not even a good communication system inside the game or the ability to actually bind together in form of a guild/corporation, etc. So this kind of MMO-Gameplay surely is lacking.
I am a Mobius Member myself and see people regulary in certain hotspots (i.e. Founders World) but i rarely interact with them other than saying hello in local chat from time to time. There is no way to trade with them, share exploraton data, materials, etc. p.p.

All things that would enrich the player experience. For me Elite is a single player game with online DRM and some multiplayer features that most of the time are not worth the potential hazzle and even if u decided to make use of them, u are still at the mercy of the netcode.

Calling ED and MMO is very very close to the line. Its one of those gray areas. When you hear MMO you expect more "MMO" than ED can ever be, but if you break it down and tick boxes ED qualifies so they throw the term in the description.

Hey,

just a question. Did FD say something about players beeing able to trade credits with one another? It would be nice, since one could ask people for to protect them while mining or trading. I could ask my friends sometimes. But the time they just hang around without any action is a big waste compared with the 5% they get from me selling the cargo. If we could share the profit equally it would be way more licrative. Same goes for Pirates.

This game desperately needs Player Trading NON pay cosmetics and a TRADE HUB. Really every MMO I have ever seen relies on this simple formula of bringing players togeather. If there was a trade hub where players HAD to go to trade. And NPC missions. Etc other then procedurally generated crap. It would Fix all the talks about Wide as an Ocean Shallow as a puddle.

Actually it wouldn't fix a thing in the inch deep mile wide department.

And Elite is not an MMO, not in the traditional sense.
The entirely of Elite can be played in Solo mode, without ever seeing another commander.
If there were a single trade hub it would be:

1. Impossible to access due to latency.
2. Impossible to access due to griefers moving in and blowing up everyone who came to trade.
3. Abused by players to shift massive amounts of Credits.

So, you can pretty much bank on this not ever happening. Back to Eve you go.

Negative Ghost Rider. That's a player based misconception of terms. Whether from being too lazy to type out MMORPG vs MMOFPS, etc.. or just sheer ignorance is anyone's guess, but it's been morphed out of context over time. MMO is, and has been defined for quite some time, as Massively Multiplayer Online. There are numerous MMO's, not all are RPGs.

Elite Dangerous is an MMOSIM/FPS, not an MMORPG. Expecting full blown MMORPG gameplay from a Sim/FPS is setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.

If you look at the game's description on Steam, the first 'tag' used to describe the game is 'Space Sim'. RPG is almost at the bottom of the list. If you look at the ED Wiki, the first line describing the game reads "Elite: Dangerous is a space adventure, trading, and combat simulation". Nowhere on the page is ED ever described as an RPG. The only mention of role playing is in regards to combat in Open, and what may or may not be considered 'griefing'.

The problem isn't ED's identity, it's your misconceptions of what that identity should be.

The Rep feature only allows me to do this once, and does not have "I Approve So Much That It Hurts".

I can't help but laugh. I posted an idea a few days ago, and everyone is like, "That would never work because ED is a MMO." OP shares his idea, and now everyone is like, "No, that won't work. ED is not a MMO!"

But.. i want ship to ship docking and to trade money and mat face to face with cmdrs. No hub. We alredy have founders. I could live with an exchange system of some kind for mats but not galaxy wide trade of mats. If i cant find a cmdr who got what i need i should have to go get it the old fashioned way.. with hard work!

More like. It would never work because no body can agree! :p

1) player trading leads to online gold sellers.
2) non pay cosmetics, make your mind up: Either they make money from cosmetics or they make money from pay to win, which?
3) Trade hub, griefers paradise :D

Last thing we need is all the problems player trading bring to the game. Especially when the only items a player can trade are not created by them. If there was a fully functional crafting system maybe.

Even then it would lead to Credit Farming and lots and lots of macros/bots slowing down the server. Where there is player trading for in game currency, there are bots, hackers, and Farmers.

WoW is full of them. You can literally pay to win that game.

EVE didnt need farmers as they propped up the trading and made real world profit from their in game currency. They were essentially their own gold farming team. The dev team of this game started the concept of Pay to Win.

Credit farming is an overrated problem. And besides, wow has lots of farmers because it has a massive player base. With a smaller player base and no global chat, Elite simply would not be an attractive option for credit farmers.

Also, the current game still allows people to transfer cargo from one player to another, so if people want to sell credits for money, they already can.

Elite Dangerous practically sneezes credits at you already. Amassed wealth gets you rebuys and thats about it. It's not Eve when in game money can get you power, inluence and can pay for your subscription.

1. You don't need to meet for multicrew. Go to the multicrew menu and say whether you are looking to have people join your ship, or if you are looking to join the ship of another. You are put into a ship from anywhere in the galaxy.
2. Community Goals happen every week, and you can find players there. It's like a player hub that moves around.
3. Join a player faction. They have a 'player hub' already - you pick a home station when you apply to become a faction that serves as your hub.
4. Player trading is a TERRIBLE idea for this particular game. You say you think it would save it, I think it would be the final nail in the coffin. Obviously there are diffferent opinions on this, but I'm willing to bet that the majority think it would be a bad thing. Most importantly FDEV seem to think it would be a bad thing.
5. It wouldn't really fix "wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle." OK, so now you've exploited player trading and been handed enough money to buy and outfit any ship you want. You've gone to the player hub and found 3 wingmates/multicrew. The things you can DO in the game are still exactly the same.

But it would make friendly player interaction more attractive. You could hire new players as escort for traders or miners. Pirates and Bounty hunters could share the money equally etc. Ok I think Bounty Hunters already got this advantage but Pirates not.

Is this a joke? No? Yikes dude, don't you know that you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than with player trading? Warframe has it to a stupid degree, and even the Pokemon GTS is just so dumb too.
