Thargoid combat will be Big Ships or Wings only?

We have seen the Thargoid ship healing itself in the preview. And at quite a pace: from 50 to 90% several times faster than the fastest bi-wave shield. So in order to destroy them, there is only one strategy that Comes to my mind: highest payload in shortest amount of time. This means only big ships (if at all) with lots of hardpoints or well coordinated wings will be able to make those ships go plop. We will have to empty ammo in a short time and if the ennemy is not blown to bits at the end, you can only flee to make another attempt later.

But small ships alone or disorganized fleets like currently in the CZ (and they are hell of disorganized there!!) : Forget about it, this would only end in a human slaughterhouse.

So, FD trying to force us into multiplayer? I personally have some issues scheduling with other commanders. You know, real life, time zones etc... So I don't really like the idea.

I wouldn't infer too much about game mechanics from the trailers. Assuming thargoid ships actually do regen in combat, one of the new anti-thargoid modules might be something which suppresses it.

Failing that, I'm glad I carry Pacifiers and IHammers :D

I have to say I found it extremely encouraging that it looked like three or more salvos of missiles were required just to hurt it, and its regen rate suggests you would have to sustain that kind of fire, which makes me think solo is going to be extremely difficult (and expensive, just in terms of ammunition) to win. However, I am looking forward to trying my pvp ship which is deisnged to defend against packhounds (2 PD), and ee how it goes. The trouble is I can only destroy most of the thargons if I show them my belly, which means I'll have to stop DPS when they fire, which may cause a DPS issue. If they can be taken down one on one by an average pilot, even with the right loadout, I'll be disappointed. I expect that cinematic to be accurate, otherwise how would they justify things changing in a matter of days? One flower ship can give an Aegis FLEET a nightmare, but one player can take them out? I sincerely hope not.

I'm hoping this is taking us a step closer to player fleet actions, etc. Though I fear the netcode will need serious work to make that playable...

Exactly this. At time I sit for minutes trying to drop out of SC while the matchmaking Server is Scratching his head figuring out which Players it could add to my sandbox to Play with. This is awful and the reason I do anything not combat-related in Solo.

And yet, Luko took out a whole fleet of Thargoid flower ships single handedly in a Cobra, with just lasers and multi cannons.

Then again, there may have been some shenanigans going on with his ship...

That doesn't sound very feasible, I wonder what the justification was for his being able to do that in lore when the rest of us are rendered impotent in space. When did this happen?

I hope thargoids are dangerous, are not easily killed, ruthless and set fire the outer edges of the bubble working their way in burning system after system forcing the human population to retreat or fall under thargoid control... I want them to be seriously scary, and will force commanders to either work together, or face them off in very powerful ships.

But what I hope for mostly is that they are not just another ship you find in Thargoid combat zones that are just a little bit tougher to take down than a deadly or elite anaconda.... If that happens... I think I will be done.

There could be thargoid vs NPC battle encounters for the solo people (like me) to get a look in, doesn't have to be one on one just because you're playing solo.

Fer those seeking a true challenge in the game...git gud and go solo...haha ye couldnt make this stuff up, pure comedy gold when open and PG become easy mode. If they can be beaten in solo, then those looking fer a challenge can only git gud by going to solo mode...

Ye I can see how this could be considered a buff to open and group modes...fer those who arent godlike in their abilities. Fer the truly skilled players, theres always solo Rambo mode, so it could also be reasoned as a nerf.

Time will tell the tale...right now all anyone can do is guess ^

Yeah but as I said, NPC's are not very disciplinated fleets, firing at will. With those regenerations powers, they are worthless. Unless MOM has made some tweaks to them so they fly in Close Formation and fire at once when in front of a flower ship.

Me too, but my only problem with this, as others have stated, the current netcode will kill this, as it is now, it has problems supporting wings of four 90% of the time.

Assume there will be different classes of Thargoid ship which can be engaged by their corresponding human analogue.

I suspect this will be exactly it, which I disapprove of immensely. I don't want to fly around, safe in the knowledge that if I were to come across a Thargoid ship, it would be matched to my ship in the same way NPC's currently are.

I can guess we'll only see the larger ones in combat zones, already fighting other NPC ships, and we get to join in. For all the big promises being made, I suspect the only differences we'll get are

  • Another ship to buy
  • More weapons to have Engineered
  • 3 more Thargoid ships - small, medium and large
  • Hyperdictions instead of interdictions
  • Thargoid Incursion Zones instead of Combat Zones
  • Another new thing for Canonn and other people interested in the mysteries to play with.

Some people will be happy with this. Some annoyed. Most will likely be indifferent. I HOPE I'm wrong, and that there will be a fundamental change in the way the game is played. But, we all know Frontier, and we all know they don't really want to change anything - so I suspect I'm sadly right and there'll be no groundbreaking features. Like PP changing to a War Council type setup. Or Thargoid Station attacks. Or Thargoid base raids. Etc Etc.

Prove me Wrong Frontier. Show us you're not afraid to go big.

Well I wont be done, but the above sums it up. thargoid ships need to be tough and remain tough. Something that even the most experienced players hesitate to engage.

Frontier also need to remain strong and not make these things a push over in spite of the huge amounts of salt the Thargoids will generate

we, the playerbase also need to realise that we wont get everything or see everything on day 1 and just enjoy the journey
