I would assume they can.On the side note - can non-Horizons player meet Thargoids in space?
They just won't have any guns capable of shooting back.

That's in total. I bought ED+horizon last year, but that doesn't mean I buy it once a year. That's the total income over all time for the company for that game, while the cost continues as long as the servers and development continues.
That's the only extra income they can have unless they start charging for DLCs.
Rather 2,500,000.
50 * 50,000 = 5 * 500,000 = 2,500,000 not 250,000
Also, remember that it took many years to get to this "buggy" version, so the cost of the emps are 5 times the 2,5 mil. The cost is a lot higher than the game price. So 5 * 50 * 50,000 = 5 * 2,500,000 = 12,500,000 mil just in cheap labor costs. Now, programmers might actually cost a lot more than you estimate. More like 100,000 /year, I suspect.
Everyone is forgetting to add in the cash-cow that is the store. Let's run some maths and assumptions... (I know the saying)..
Assumption: 100000 active players
Assumption: Average spend in shop per year £30
Assumption: £70 all in cost of ED + Horizons
Assumption: 50 active coders on a salary of £50000
Total on Game sales: £7000000
Total on Shop sales: £3000000
Total Sales: 10,000,000
50 Employees * £50000 = 250,000
Taking into account energy, premises, management salaries etc, you can't but think, they are cleaning up!!
And the best we get is buggy, untested, half-baked ideas, poorly designed with some scripted story thrown in for good measure. They're laughing all the way to the bank !
Aaaaaaanyway.
Coming back on topic, which we have recently drifted from, tomorrow's the day! They return, but will we prevail?

I seriously doubt tomorrow we'll see any real and tangible thargoid action stuff.
Knowing Frontier they will drag and tease this war as long as possible.
Considering they have stated, and it fits with established game design paradigms, that Thargoid's will be in their very own bubble outside the regular human bubble and so if a player so choose be completely avoided. No matter how bad the goids are, they can't push us further than the Freewinder. We will prevail. Let them come. [yesnod]
It was a response to the other post and not intended to be exact or accurate.
Also, your point is that only ED pays for all other development, which isn't true either, since the other games are also paid for by gamers.
The point is that it's expensive to develop games and the income isn't necessarily enough to pay for it, and that his point that 50 x 50,000 is the same as 250,000, which is obviously wrong with a factor of 10. FDev is not getting rich on the players. And I doubt there are 100,000 paying players (only 5-10,000 on Steam). I believe his point was wrong. That was my point. If you don't get it, it's not my problem.
He said, "Everyone is forgetting to add in the cash-cow that is the store. Let's run some maths and assumptions... (I know the saying).."
1. It's not a cash-cow
2. His assumptions are wrong
3. His math is wrong.
Ergo, his whole argument is wrong. And it had nothing to do with trying to justify any aspects of the game at all.
Put it this way, if he's making assumptions, then at least have some reasonable ones, or the whole argument is worthless. In this case, his argument is.
I can tell you that I have my own issues with ED, but I wouldn't consider it a cash-cow.
Am I the only one that want(hope) to see some solid new gameplay mechanics with depth and variety tomorrow?Am i the only one that want(hope) to see the Bubble burn tomorrow?![]()
Maybe you can hire a wing of NPC ships and then give them tactical commands what to do (attack this, defend that). Maybe you could even get a friend on board via multi-crew to specialise in this role as it offers enough tactical enjoyment/depth?I for one will be interesed to see how the Thargoid thing plays out for solo players. The FD mini movie made even a fleet of ships easy prey for the Thargoid ship. How will a lone pilot cope with this?
Really? I got my number from Steam charts. Do you have a link to your stats? There are around 80,000 players on steam in the last two weeks. Not 5-10,000, that is concurrent numbers. And that doesn't include the non steam players mac or console players.

Besides, cash cow is a steady income. Elite is very erratic income from point sales like season passes every 1-2 years and paint jobs. World of warcraft was (is?) a cash cow. Elite just doesn't fit the definition, in my opinion. It might be profitable, but cash cow... nah.
Sure. Here you go:

Steamchart are players playing at the same time. It doesn't say how many people have played in a day, a week or 2 weeks. Players in the last 2 weeks on steam spy is as close as you will get for player numbers on steam. It is not perfect, but a far better indicator then steamcharts.
It's a total of the number of players per day. Not the unique players in a week.Sure. Here you go:
