PvP Fuel Corgi gets got 65k LY from bubble - SDC Special

There's some history between SDC and the Fuel Corgis, so he was not innocent, in that regard.

Oh, nice. That makes it even better.

Like I said, I was more concerned about the wasted opportunity than the loss of one random guy's ship. If the guy wasn't actually random it's a win-win since the trip wasn't wasted and the victim wasn't innocent by proxy.

I'll make a celebratory cuppa now, I think. This afternoon at work is SLOW.

It could be a Wing of Cutters ganking a Hauler and it would still be PVP.

I believe this type of emergent content was one of Braben's original dreams for Elite.

This event is very rare! To travel so far, with such purpose. I cannot think of many more who have done this. Rare [ X ]

Judging by the responses it was not only meaningful for the gankee but for the community at large. Meaningful [ X ]

"Rare and Meaningful PVP"

Working as intended!

Its all very exciting

Best comment so far.
"you've given too much rep in the last 24 hours" yadda yadda

I think it's the sentiment that people are railing against rather than the actual act, which no doubt took some dedication (to griefing). If they could have enticed a normal player out there to be slaughtered under some pretence, that would be infinitely more acceptable and more impressive. The fact that they took advantage of someone's kindness is unacceptable in my view. Kill someone that came to help you in good faith...that person took time out of their routine to do a job they don't get paid for, helping others. Takes a special type to do that to someone else in order to set a 'record', which isn't even valid cos they self destructed so technically didn't make it to a dock with the 'kill' (in order for it to be confirmed, let's say).

If someone crosses a mountain range on foot, then pretends to be stuck, calls mountain rescue and then murders the rescue team, do you let them off cos of the effort they put in? As others have said, it's just a game, so that's not 100% relevant, but it's an accurate analogy of the sentiment. This act crossed a line for many people, myself included. I know it takes all sorts, and we all have to deal with it every day in the game and reality. A spade is still a spade though, and I'll call it one.

OTOH, someone could argue that Fuel rescuers of different kind are detrimental to the game, because it takes nearly zero mental effort to plan your fuel consumption between jumps accordingly. It's not like FDev have already invented fuel tank piercing bullets that NPCs or CMDRs can use to make your fuel leak, right? Why should people who failed to properly manage their fuel have help to escape from a self-destruct and rebuy screen?

I know you and most here won't agree.

It's still a valid argument.

What is valid and what isn't is also subjective. I'd call it a weak justification myself. ^edit, that works too (above)...

Look, if you got gossip, gossip. Don't be like that.

Heh, it's a supper important secret, I'm sure. Only the elite fluff patrol are privy to this sort of shocking knowledge. Us mere common folk couldn't handle it anyway, I mean, assuming we cared in the first place, of course. ;)

Since Ryan sulk after saying that, it seems it was a false excuse for their vid.

I do, Fox. And we disagree in this, it's OK, if people didn't have opposing opinions every now and then, humanity would only be a creativeless amalgam of sorts.

Alright, just to check, you think the fuel corgis who are on a mission to help people, deserve to be griefed for this. OK, no worries. Good to know where someone stands, morally.

I accept that, but what I think is unfortunate in your philosophy, is your assertion that people whose nature and desire is to help others, are spoiling the game in such a way that they deserve to be treated this way.

They of course don't deserve to be treated this way, but it's not a matter of deserving or not. Assymetric, nonconsensual PvP in Open, cutthroat galaxy, all is very well represented by OP.

The community will never change in this regard.

Exactly.

Exactly.

I think that's all it is about, consideration for others. Maybe I was just raised differently. You know you have a choice right? There's not even an in-game reward for player kills.

I would love players co-operating if the game offered legitimate challenge that asked for co-operation. Running out of fuel is hardly that, it's basic lack of foresight which needs to be punished.

Exactly.

Here's a classic example of players cooperating against harsh environments: escort wings for traders in CGs. No one does that. Why, I wonder? Wings escorting people back into the bubble, there's actually Iridium Wing. Very few people use them. Why, I wonder.

In real life, I think exactly like you.
But it's a game really. That kind of stuff happens, and it should.

I will very soon be offering to escort traders, even if all I can be right now is a distraction until I'm dead, that will be enough, and I will get better.

Even if he had checked loadout, why would his first assumption be that the person who asked for help was about to blast him? If you call firefighters to come put out your burning house are they supposed to let the place burn while they spend time patting you down to make sure you don't have any weapons on you?

Granted, given the state of the game, this might be "regular PvP" but it is not "2 condas shooting each other in a fight."

It's one conda nearly instantly melting another conda who came to provide aid in a show of kindness. A good samaritan who got to send out 2 fuel limpets before his ship that was specced for long range rescue (not combat), got shredded by a combat-fit ship.

This was a video about seal clubbing.

I don't know about you but I would be seriously questioning a fully armed Anaconda 65,000LY from anywhere it needs guns.

I would absolutely move with caution.

THIS IS NOT REAL LIFE.
