I never play in open myself, but... How does a single Thargoid deal with wings of players? Can one commander distract it with a bone, and a roll of biscuits, and some other goodies, whilst a second leisurely hoovers up any escape pods afloat behind its back? :7

Had something interesting happen to me when I was scanned by a Thargoid. I reported it as a bug, as it most likely is one, but it might also be a glimpse for thing yet to come.

I dropped in a Non-Human Signal Source Threat Level 5, got scanned by a Thargoid, routine by now. Carried nothing, that he wanted so he turned around and continued scanning debris.
All the sudden "WARNING CAPITAL CLASS SIGNATURE DETECTED!" played. (At this point I was falling from my chair while hammering the screenshot key.) Silence... so... a bug...?

[CAPITAL SHIP WARP IN SOUND] began (imagine a Clipper turning in all directions looking for a capital ship)

As the famous capital ship "HOOONK" played I was looking at the Thargoid. It (/she/he) appears to be looking in all directions too... never mind it just turned towards a new piece of debris. (Now, I was hoping to see a Thargoid shredding a capital ship... and perhaps it's support fleet! Then I thought, that I can't possibly be the first one to see this, I don't even know how to record a video of it. Then I realized that I will most likely not survive this event.).

Sound finished... no capital ship in sight... Even after searching for some time there was nothing, only the Thargoid scanning debris. (I WILL SURVIVE!) I found a low wake roughly were my entry point was (there was no other ship present while I was there). Bug report it is then...

So, what do you think, audio bug or glimpse of future interaction?

Hope Canonn Council got the G5 Heavy Duty Mods on the Gnosis jump drive, looks like she's gonna be fully loaded tomorrow:

ohh that reminds me! Last call for the Varati express service to Hyades Sector AQ-Y D81!
Get yourselves over to the Gnosis currently stationed in Varati for it maiden jump scheduled for tomorrow mornings server update!

Not on mine ... Galmap, yes. Sysmap, no.

I'm there literally right now.

Also, does anyone know what I'm supposed to do with these lumps of Thargoid my biopsy/research limpets keep excising, do I just keep collecting them like pokemon till I have a hold full of goid steaks?

Roger that, I'll strip a few more sirloin off em.

Rather than multipost; The thought occurs when looking at the goid markings that they look procedural, and have enough compenents to be fairly unique in variation, is it possible they are akin to our ship names/commander names, like a unit identifier? The ones I have scraped samples off have been pretty unique so far, or at least appeared to be in the heat of the moment.

While out investigating the new USSs, I encountered several Thargoids.

I was struck by how alive they seem. It doesn't feel like watching a vehicle so much as like watching an animal.

The threat display when you get too close is amazingly clear in meaning, even though I've never seen anything like it. It's like a bear rearing up on its hind legs -- you know you better back off.

It's all very impressive and fascinating.

It will be interesting to piece together what their motives are, and how that affects us.
And yet at the same time, they feel relatable. Almost "too" human. Now I know this is a game, and FD need to cater to humans, so they can't make the aliens truly alien, and also have to make them material, understandable, and interactable, but it's still a bit odd to me how the Thargoids use green as good, yellow as caution, and red as danger, just like humans. It'd be cool, but would probably only lead to confusing normal people if say, blue on a Thargoid vessel was bad. Not entirely too surprised they use colour and sound for communication as well. Curious, though. I wonder if there are things we can't hear/see? Do they use ultraviolet light or anything of the sort?

Considering there's no sound in space, and our ships supposedly 'fill in the blanks' for us with simulated sound... I wanna know how it knows how a Thargoid sounds...

http://news.stanford.edu/news/2014/august/splitter-clean-fuel-082014.html

"Using nickel and iron, which are cheap materials, we were able to make the electrocatalysts active enough to split water at room temperature with a single 1.5-volt battery," said Hongjie Dai, a professor of chemistry at Stanford. "This is the first time anyone has used non-precious metal catalysts to split water at a voltage that low. It's quite remarkable, because normally you need expensive metals, like platinum or iridium, to achieve that voltage."

And water is Hydrogen and Oxygen, which you can split easily with electrolysis so I guess you divert the Hydrogen to your engines and the oxygen to life support.

Quoted wrong post :)
oh and i dont seem to have those stats, been to 3 Tharg signal sources

Even if it only started tracking since 2.4 my stats are all screwy, I have had loads of encounters and it only records one.....Although I have only been hypercicted once since 2.4 dropped?

Interestingly it distinguishes between scouts and ships, indirectly confirming a larger class of space-goid perhaps.
