Isn't the Imprint the Thargoid sites?

I'm sure I read that somewhere. [where is it]

Maybe it's the number of unique "Symbols" on them?

EDIT: No stats here either... goes Search and Rescue, then Crafting for me :(

2nd Edit: Oh wait. This account hasn't encountered any Thargoids...

After my own non-hostile interactions with the Thargoids, and then watching the various battles posted by others, and the eventual destruction of some of the Thargoids, I'm still struck by how alive they seem.

They are not just vehicles, like our ships are. They are living in some way.

They even scream in what sounds like pain when they are killed. And they have hearts, and tissue samples...

The whole thing feels more like shooting at animals than machinery. It makes me uncomfortable, and I don't really want to have to kill them.

And yet it appears that they drop needed engineering items -- which means killing them may be a requirement for some (many?) upgrades.

It's all very fascinating.

I just hope that the game allows us to make some moral decisions, and doesn't force us into killing them. I know that's optimistic :)

A thargoid destroyed my ship yesterday as I tried to lure it into an asteroid field to assess its navigational capabilities. I meant no harm, he didn't care. I vowed revenge. There will be blood and it's not going to be red.

You couldn't outrun it, yet you tried to lure it? Lol, well what else did you expect after you antagonised it? ;). Couldn't you've flown out of the asteroid field (weathering the damage) & then hyperspaced out?

You might want to add EMP and "Funky Lightning stuff" to that list :D

Xeno witchery!!!

In other news: the Canonn needs its own weapon: 'Arcanonn's Wrath'

A cannon (obviously, to take advantage of the amusing spelling opportunities) firing dirty shells comprising of hobnobs (which, thanks to Peter Kay we know are indestructible) and broken whisky tumblers, all infused with anti-Xeno particles.

I guess the moral choice is that you don't need to engineer your ship, any more than people need to wear fur coats.

Except engineering your ships helps you survive attacks from others, like when stefandefdqon1 & wing attacked my Python in the 1st Aegis CG & disrupted my FSD into high wake (&/or Voice attack bugged out, I'm not sure), anyway with the 3 of them shooting me, my 6A engineered shlds + 3 engineered shld boosters allowed me to survive before I could finally hyperspace out, but not by much, I had 1 ring left! I could've played solo of course, but that's not as challenging ;).

Interesting quote in the first reply to that tweet; asserting that they can't track you with silent running on. Can anyone verify?

OK everyone just a heads up but I will be taking this thread down and putting up the new structure at some point this afternoon/evening. There will still be a central discussion hub (hope you like the name :p) and 4 specific threads.

We can't keep at a pace where we break these threads faster than 98% of the rest of the forum put together :D and so I do ask that you try to keep discussions relevant to their specific threads and use the discussion hub only for theories and also things that might tie others together. I'm going to try and put into the first couple of posts of each thread what I think is all of the relevant information and the 3 mods you normally see here and the others roped in, err I mean willingly volunteered, will be able to keep them updated as we make new discoveries. If you think I've missed anything once they're all up then send me a PM and let me know.

Cheers

My thoughts exactly. I believe we can take the easy path of just blowing them up for their engineering components and that whole aspect of gameplay. Or we can take the higher road and try to understand their behavior and see if we can communicate.

Since the new scanner was implemented, had anyone tried to manifest scan a Thargoid after it scoops up escape pods?

What about hatch breaker limpets?

Can we rescue already scooped humans? basically.

Also, anyone attempted to.... datalink scan thargoids, or, their targon swarms, after the scanners? I tried all these scans before the new Xeno scanner existed, and got a scan failed message for each type. So might be worth a look.

Hmm, data scanning needs to be done within 200m right? Not sure if that's wise in my Eagle, but I'll try! ;).

Btw, I assume the std wake scanner can't scan their wakes still?

[update] Interesting, the tag for the crashed Thargoid scout has gone.

What did the hotfix do for ED earlier?

If only there was a way to effectively communicate with them. We've accumulated so much data over 2 years, you'd think by now we'd have some form of understanding the way they DO communicate. So far, the majority of communication attempts have been by throwing rocks at them.

I'm still a ways from that part of space but has anybody tried using Morse code in local chat or using ship lights to flash Morse? The UAs and UPs use Morse themselves don't they?

Funny, I was wondering about ship lights myself, but A I can't do morse (bar SOS) & B it would be very hard to do it properly on our ship lights as we don't have a 'touch on'/flash button for them.

I could have outrun it. I just wanted to see its behavior in the asteroid field. I was in the field, the scout refused to enter it. It lobbed a volley of missiles at me from a distance (or maybe it was the thargons), which caught me by off-guard because I stopped to answer a phone call.

Here are some screenies.
