I'm always surprised by what the industry sees as a sure thing. The first film was far from a success until repeated viewing's revealed it to be the cult classic we know of today. This squeal, although featuring star power and feeding off of its predecessors name value is still a long, thinky piece of Sci-Fi and they never do all that well in initial box office when most people are after purely escapist entertainment from their cinema trips. That said, I'm going to be catching this again this week and I suspect that many other people will get pleasure from repeated viewings in much the way that the first film enjoyed. A slow first weekend may make a rushed third film much less likely but from my point of view that would be a very good thing.

Hopefully I'm not going to spoil their review, but I agree with what they had to say about that movie. It's good that they had the courage to make it so slow paced, but boy! could they have cut one or two of those scenes down a bit.
Talking of spoilers, don't watch that review until after you've seen the movie. It does go into a lot of detail.
But as to which movie is better, there's no contest as far as I'm concerned. It's like asking if Lenny Kravitz is better than Jimi Hendrix. There is nothing in the new movie that came anywhere remotely close to Batty's "Tears in the rain" soliloquy

Of course it's too early to say at the moment whether the new movie will spawn classic quotes, but I can't remember any of the dialogue at the moment. If anyone wants to help me out with that please bear in mind that those lines may contain spoilers.
A movie is more than just absolutely stunning visuals and a well-developed plot which explores meaningful themes. It should have snappy dialogue as well.

You fail to understand what film Critique is . In any case If you cast French DIRECTOR you cant expect a Hollywood Action Blockbuster. Give it to Michael Bay see what he does with it.
I am as much a 'Critc' as anyone since studied it at University. Plus I have actually bothered to learn the film making process and attempting to bring original works. So some random schmuck and say well its not insert <Clasic film with massive budget?
A lot is marketing and these so called critics are paid of .
Bladerunner 2049 received 5 stars and high praises. Like I said there were 10 people in imax on opening day. They spoiled the surprise in the trailers. There also is no competeing forms of mass entertainment across multimedia channels.
Disney films are 130 min adverts for there toys.

Wrong, they loved it!
And for the record, they liked JJ StarTrek and JJ StarWars, both of which I found to be essentially reference-laden throwback fan-films made by someone who's not actually a fan of the respective franchise. I still enjoy watching their reviews even when I disagree with them.
Besides, everyone knows that the perfect flawless science fiction movie has already been made, since nothing will ever surpass the masterpiece that is Pixels.

You fail to understand that this is an internet forum where a bunch of sci fi nerds are giving their opinions about a sci fi movie. That doesn't mean we all have to be film experts to do it.

High budgets is no guarantee of a good film.
Most of the BR 2049 budget probably went to pay Harrison Ford
HF allegedly received $25M for his role in the J.J. Abrams Star Wars sequel. That's sounds like a lot, until you realize that Adam Sandler gets a base salary of $20M for such trainwrecks as "Jack and Jill", a movie with a $80M budget that has the production values of $500k direct to vhs slop.
It was an entertaining review, even if I didn't agree with their premise that this movie is better than the original.
One of these days I am going to have to watch "Pixels"* just to see if it's as bad as everyone says <grin>
*added the inverted comas to ward off any "you're watching pixels right now" comments

Although I have yet to watch Blade Runner 2049 a film critic I trust is Mark Kermode. It is fair to say he highly rates Blade Runner (The Final Cut), and he approached the sequel with some concerns. After half an hour into the film he relaxed. I think he liked it (he stated that he has seen BR 2049 twice).
Yeh they gave a good review. Although they did say it was boring and maybe needed a trim here and there.. (which i personally dont agree with)
They did a plinket review of the JJ starwars, which seemed to be more negative than positive (if memory serves, need to watch it again maybe), and the same with the Half in the bag reviews of the various Nu-Trek films. I agree with you about these films though, i didnt think much of them.
Ive watched films based upon RLM recommendations and not enjoyed them, and ive seen them dislike films that i personally enjoyed. So i never expect them to be an echo chamber for me. Which is perfect. (and they make me laugh). But i like them because I find that RLM actually to a large degree know what they are taking about when it comes to movie reviews (unlike Say 'Angry Joe' who is just a talking head). So they get my sub.
Ive not seen pixels... I see Adam Sandler and thats where i walk away. Cant stand that guy.
The first film is still my fav. but ive only seen the new one once.... so maybe in years to come i might change my mind.
Right now im just glad that the sequel which no one wanted for fear of it being terrible, wasnt terrible.
