I'm In!!! Have my Exploration Music from Game Music Packs on standby!

Will be searching for the discord channel soon!

As soon as the route is selected, I would be willing to create a voice attack profile for users of voice attack. Planned features could include:

1. Itinerary
2. Location Trivia
3. Expedition Background, Organization, and Fleet Statistics.
4. Basecamp Guide
5. Nearby POI's ??

Let me know if this would be of help.

Anyone linking explorer builds yet - debating between Asp and Anaconda (unless a better ship appears). I have to Engineer parts, so any help is appreciated.

Excitement is building - thanks for deciding on this guys! (We'll need to badger Frontier about getting decals) :)

Probably a good time to share: This is my current exploraconda, subject to change of course. It has a couple of caveats-- Since Coriolis doesn't have the 2.4 modules yet, this doesn't show the xeno-scanner, and I have two limpet controllers on there that are placeholders, representing the research limpet and hull repair limpet controllers. My guess is that by the time the expedition starts, it'll be clear whether the research limpets, xeno-scanner, and corrosion resistant cargo rack are at all useful further from the bubble. But for now, it covers all the bases. :)

In my signature below, I also have my AspX loadout(s), for comparison.

I missed out on the first one, i'm not going to miss out on this mission. [yesnod]

i'm in 110% even better with a year to prep an exploration ship [smile]

Interesting anaconda build - you have just 2T more for your optimised mass, yet you have over 1LY additional to my jump range with a similar loadout (except I have no utilities at all). I'm going to have to look deeper at my build, and see what else I can do to shave off some mass.

I cannot wait for the roster to start! Going to be good to read the list with all those names, ships & CMDR's alike!

I was actually thinking, at one stage, about a shirt that had *all* the ships on the back of the shirt (yes, all 1300, split by type). I remember someone posting a pic - it may have been Qohen. It was quite amazing to see the fleet represented that way. It makes me wonder just how many CMDR's I did not even meet (or even know were on the mission). My friends list from DWE alone went from low double digits to over 450 in the first week, I have no idea what it ended up as.

Like I said, it's still awesome to drop into a system and see a greeting from a CMDR from that expedition, an dit happens fairly often still, in both Open and private groups!

Love it, kinda like a brother (and sister) hood!

DISTANT WORLDS II

With the announcements from Frontier at Expo 17 of new exploration content, discoverable anomalies, new ships, and a revamp of planetary lighting, textures, and new geological surface features, Dr Kaii and Erimus are excited to announce that very early work on a Distant Worlds 2 expedition has begun.

As some of the exploration community remember, Distant Worlds 3302 snowballed from humble beginnings into a massive fleet event, 1,300 pilots strong, that took around 6 months to plan, implement, and execute.

The purpose of this thread is to simply confirm that the expedition will be taking place, and roughly when, due to popular demand.

Distant Worlds II is pencilled in for Q4 2018/Q1 2019.

Yes that's a year away, but we want to build upon DWE1 and out-do that event in both scale and ambition, as well as have all the content FD announced at EXPO in place before we launch. Lastly, we don't want it to clash with any other expeditions so the earlier we announce it the better.

Updates on DWE2's planning and build up will also appear on Twitter here : https://twitter.com/drkaii

EXPO 17 seems to have gotten the exploration community buzzing again as Mengy's post shows, and attending EXPO in person and speaking to explorers there who were asking when will there be another DWE, we feel now is the time to put out some early feelers as this will be a huge undertaking for the event organisers if it approaches the numbers DWE1 had participating.

  • We want to create an event that challenges its participants, like DWE1 did.
  • We want to create interesting basecamp meetups and events, that include all what DWE1 had, and more - specifically utilising whatever new discovery mechanics the new content requires.
  • We would like to reach the same scale as last time or beat it, and then take advantage of our large contingent in the hopes the expedition might discover some of the new and mysterious things FD have hinted at!
  • We have plans to bring back the Distant Worlds weekly newsletter that proved so popular last time around, and eventually have it again bound into a book as a memento.
  • Naturally DWE2 plan to work in conjunction with the Galactic Mapping Project to discover, catalogue, and name new POIs, spacial anomalies, and geological features.
  • The expedition will encourage and facilitate all the emergent gameplay that explorers are renowned for into joining and helping organise and oversee certain aspects of this mammoth endeavour; Fuel Rats, Rock Rats, The Repair & Tour Group, The Galactic Travel Agency, Surveyors, Galactic Mappers, Scouts, and even squadrons that will hopefully be able to utilise the new fleet carriers.
  • We will put together an experienced organisation team to help create a memorable event.

According to the EXPO announcements, there will be space anomalies, new planetary features, enhanced geology, improved tools to utilise, and also fleet carriers. Imagine being able to use these new ships as exploration base ships, and have whole exploration factions bring their very own cap ships along with the fleet - this one is obviously speculation at the moment, but one of the other purposes of this thread is to give food for thought to Frontier that - with a year until Q4 2018 - there is hopefully time to give explorers and exploration factions the tools to make mass expeditions work even better than before. Bookmarking surface features would also be nice, FD (hint hint) ;)

If you're interested in another DWE event, please leave a comment on this thread so we can gauge what scale of event to commit time to organising. Even a simple "I'm in" post will do. ;)

PC / Mac / XBox / PS4

Specific destinations, itineraries, event schedules, and the overall goal that DWE2 will strive for is something that we can't discuss at this time, so please do not make any suggestions on those.

Finally, bare in mind that Frontier may not be able to keep to the schedule they have outlined and this may lead to delaying the expedition.

Im in....where do I sign up? Also, im on PS4...does that make a difference?

I'm so in. I've already been to Beagle Point but it was a very lonely trip. As I live in New Zealand I'm hoping there will be enought DWII explorers in my time zone to create a small local community that can wing up on the trip. cheers Laz.

I'm from the eastern side of Australia so a very similar timezone, I work shifts so my hours are scattered but I'm sure there's more than a few of us from this side of the world :)

Seriously considering cutting short my circumnavigation in a T9 adventure so I can spend the year fine tuning a DWE2 worthy vessel.

I'm in. I do run a business with very odd hours, but would like to give this a go, especially if there are others in my time zone (in Australia too).
