When you say "so it is much too slow", do you mean "the game is actually unplayable"

Or do you mean, it's playable but not satisfying, or..

Like in what way is it bad? Is it comparable to playing a game at 20fps? I could tolerate that until I got the money..

Playing games at a "low" 20-40 FPS on a regular desktop monitor is not really a problem. My understanding is that games on the DK2 must run at 75ps locked or you will get anywhere from minor to major stuttering that makes the game unplayable.

@juniper...... Not hyperbole... Maybe a little biased but even after a nights sleep if you were to ask me my biggest WOW moments 2 days ago they would have probably included Horace goes skiing on my spectrum (1st game on my home computer) and ridge racer on ps1 (1st time I thought OK now I really have an arcade in my home).. .. Now it would be those AND stepping into elite for the 1st time with dk2.

At the guy wanting to get out of hyperspace... It is automatic but a bug sometimes gets you stuck in there. If you meant super cruise it is the same button which put you in it.

I think hyperspace and super cruise are now same button but context dependant.

At guy with gtx 660 I would not have bought that for VR my gtx 670 only just manages vr in ED. It will be playable just but low frames mean potential sickness and less believable experience.

At guy with 2 gtx670s. Disable . Sli . Not good for vr. Try and over clock one of your cards. It is OK for me on low detail and that us what I have

Slopey got his as well if I recall...

How's it all going? I'm having a blast! Made a 100 k yesterday, but then got stuck for hours hours between two systems and couldn't jump out of them! In the end I sold my viper and bought a sidewinder which gave me the extra range to get back to civilised space! And all of this inside the DK2!

So it works with the Dk1 ? Or did you get it with DK2?

Everything works perfectly with the dk1 but you can't read the text on the mission cockpit panel, the galaxy map side ui and the buliten board commodities.

Text comms and voice attack...

I have worked out a way to "type" without actually typing whilst inside of the rift...

It's actually pretty easy to set up generic text lines and have them entered into the text panel via a voice command...

Just make sure the panel is open first or your ship will probably explode!

Short story...

I say " computer, hail that vessel..."
Computer says... " hailing vessel now commander ..."
ThiS command opens the text chat ...

I say " say hi "
Computer says " saying hello "
And types... Hi how are you commander?" And sends the communication to the other ship.

Total immersion!

I can just about read the text in commodities and missions (DK1). Setting the res to 1080p in the options menu made a huge difference if you have not done that yet

wow and here I was about to order the kit.. I imagine this is going to stump sales a lot, I mean if we have to run games at 60+ FPS to not feel drunk in game people are going to have to have super computers to really enjoy it...:S

Remember this is a development kit (i.e. not designed for mass market.) By the time the consumer version is out computers capable of running it will probably be pretty mainstream.

Still unable to get ED on the rift, I sent in a ticket to OR to see if they could point me in the right direction.

So am I missing something simple or am I just simple? (MikeSnos will be banned forever if he comments on that.)

On the DK2 I installed the config util and tested a couple of things the helix demo and the Elite Dangerous demo and everything worked fine. I then updated the firmware and now the tracking seems to have stopped. It's fine in the desk demo and all the tracking is perfect. but when I try a demo or ED even though I see the screen tracking is disabled. the blue light on the Post tracker is on and as I say it all works perfectly in the desk demo.
I've tried uninstalling the Config and re upgrading the firmware but so far no luck. I've also tried disabling the wscript.exe in the task manager and if I disable the ovrservice_64.exe it greys out the DK2 in the config and disconnects the unit from the PC

For me it's as simple as making sure the rift is working by viewing the demo scene from the config app, and if that's all good I do this and only this:

1) Set the rift into extended mode using the config app.
2) open up Task Manager (right click start bar)
3) kill the wscript.exe
4) Kill the OVRService_64.exe
5) play elite dangerous

Dont reboot, don't touch the config app, don't look out the window, etc... just fire up Elite.

I dunno what to suggest.

I tried yesterday morning and it didnt work, but must have been rushing as it was fine just following the guide kindly made by slackr

are you sure you have the rift as secondary monitor in portrait on you PC at 75 hz?

are you sure you have the oculus software at extend display, and that, with that software open you have killed the 2 processes?

and areyou sure you have set ED up in the settings to rift mode?

and finally if when you launch, inside the rift all you see is the desktop, and if on your monitor you see your desktop as well *but you can see the elite D GAME icon in the task bar..... just click that.

for some reason sometimes the game minimises itsself to the task bar... not surewhy.

sorry but oculus cant change human biology

my PC is old and not that valuable but still does an awesome VR experience.

(sandy i5 from 2011, 12gb ram and a gtx 670 overclocked)

With all the Rift trouble and mirroring displays etc. wouldn't it amybe help to unplug your monitor and use the rift alone? Just to see if E: D works then?

you wont HAVE to VR at the native res of the panel. even at 1080p you will still enjoy the reducing of the SDE.

same with refresh rate, I didnt feel at all sick after 2 hrs last night gaming at somewhere around 70-75fps (total guess)

just remember, VR does have a performance hit. I can game on a monitor with my rig on full bubble in VR on high detail its horrible, I have to drop to low settings. its still worth it.

I am hoping when ED support direct to rift I can push it a bit. extending the desktop does seem to be inefficient

Yep done that, only thing I've found is if I cancel the OVRService_64.exe it greys out the config and can't see the rift.

Done all that as well. I see the game in the rift but there is no tracking. the OR demos I.e desk and tuscany both work fine.
