DEBUKING - Big ship should turn slower, have less boost speed...

In this topic and this one i found so many haters of big ships... They repeat same false asumptions over and over again. I think it would be a good idea to make a Debunking thread.

Big Ship should be slower to turn. In this video you can see a heavy tanks truck spinning as fast as a car :

Big Ship are too fast, they should be slower than small fighter. In this video you can see a truck with it's powerfull engine is faster than a car :

In fact a truck can be faster than some air planes : 553.46 Km/h !!!

Now imagine heavy ship in space... with no friction... no gravity (less mass)... And you'll understand that in fact Big Ship in Elite Dangerous are way too slow !!!

Well ok it's not real space simulation, it's dog fighting, otherwise it wouldn't be fun and the game needs to be balanced, but no Big Ship don't need to be even slower than they are now !
They are fine how they are right now !

And as concerned to the ability to FA off to turn faster : It's good, it's bring normal space simulation back to the game when you need to turn faster.

1) Dont make a new topic when you can just respond to the original topic.
2) People with a different opinion arent 'haters'. We simply would like big ships more if they didnt fly like vipers.
3) Pink, blue and orange letters? Really?
4) Enough with the car/truck analogies please. We're not talking about trucks. Take it here: https://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/

Attempting to use a jet-powered "truck" to assert that lorries are faster than cars is a bit silly.

... and yet within the context of the rest of the post it looks like an intelligent and nuanced point.

Physics clearly isn't your strong point.

Indeed. Part of me wants to ask him by what mechanism he feels gravity reduces mass, part of me is scared of what the answer might be and where it may take us :D

OP: Why didn't you just go to the base stats to prove that big ships aren't as viable as small ships
https://coriolis.edcd.io/

It's well known that the large ships have pretty huge gaps in certain areas of performance, for example the Corvettes lack of Jump Range, and the one Large Hardpoint placement makes it vulnerable to attacks from the belly, the Cutter has strong straight line speed but sucks for pitching, and the T9 is just a barn while the Annie sits in the middle as a do-it-all-er. They all require steady hands when going up against players who know what they're doing, where to attack, and their craft. I still maintain that when it comes to Combat or Racing, there wont be any dethroning of Small/Medium sized vessels for viability however.

Power to weight ratio is king, particularly in the absence of drag.

However the further the pilot or a passenger sits from the centre of mass the larger the forces exterted in a like for like turn. The sqidgy human is the limiting factor.

You would love to fly Big Ship if they were even slower ?! I don't understand seriously... What do you wish exactly ?

Some people in the linked threads say Big Ships should be even slower and only use turrets.

That would make big ships useless. Turrets are nerfed, they are not available in all class and big ship are already very slow to turn and have low speed !

But some big ships haters wants to make them ineffective...

I quote :
The amount of thruster force available to bigger ships is definitely a balance issue in this game. The problem, is that if they were to truly make it more balanced, no one would fly the bigger ships anymore- even with the defensive capability available to them, because if they were overwhelmed by wing of smaller ships they'd be shredded (albeit slower) to bits.

IMO, no ship twice or three times the size of a smaller ships should be able to turn and handle as quickly as a smaller ship. You shouldn't be able to fly a Corvette like you do an Eagle, for example.

Thought-provoked by this thread... This is a suggestion that big ships should be lumbering beasts that have no practical chance of using fixed and gimballed weapons other than by chance or against equally big targets. They should be more or less forced to use turreted weapons while being able to take excessive amount of damage. So excessive in fact that a single small and probably even medium ship would have no chance to destroy one unless of course the big ship is equipped with fixed weapons and the smaller ship can dance around it for long enough to deal that excessive amount of damage.

Right now all ships are flown like fighters and this is just wrong. Current ship sizes should either have far bigger differences OR all should be designated as fighters (small, medium and big fighter), in which case this suggestion includes future frigates that would act as Anacondas, Corvettes, Cutters and T9s should now.

All ships are flown like fighters because thats how the flight model works?

They're already the slowest ships in the game, they dont need to go any slower. You wont find a cutter/clipper beating a courier/viper III in speed nor will you find one with maneuverability styles of an FDL/FAS/Vulture.

The big ships are more supplemental than anything

Uh, this is a very odd thread. Pretend space ships compared to IRL hot rodded semi's. Not seeing the correlation.

What I want is big ships offering a unique experience, rather than a not-so-fun fighter experience compensated for with efficiency. I want to be a cmdr in a corvette, and a pilot in a viper. I want my corvette to be slow and lumbering, needing tons of turrets and fighters. I want the gameplay to consist of power management, movibg shields around the ship and managing the fighter wings.

Now I have a boring version of a fighter.
