But if you hate the haters, then you're a hater too, and you will hate yourself...No one hates you. Hate the haters.

If the game play was more of how pirating seems to be done in shows/movies, it's 1) take out shields, weapons, and engines, 2) demand cargo or boarding ship, 3) steal and leave.Cmdr Harry Potter has gone real quiet of late. But yes he IS hated not because he plays in open but because he is a complete %$^&

Never is it a good thing to kill the target, because there's no money in it (unless you want to make an example of someone, but it rarely works in a massive game like this).
And of course, killing is necessary for bounty hunting, but that's another issue.
Never is it a good thing to kill the target, because there's no money in it .
So, I've gotta disagree with the exploration nonsense.
I'm primarily an explorer. If I was worried about a paycheck I wouldn't be an explorer. No amount of credits lost would ever force me into Solo or PG because that's not what exploration is about.
On top of that you lose out on so much random player interaction. One of the guys I fly with fairly frequently I met randomly out in the black (like 1:1mil odds). He's French, and this is his first experience with the series. We talk all the time now, and meet up whenever we're both in the bubble. That never would have happened if I weren't in Open.
Well looking at the game and the expanse with which the human race has expanded through it doesn't limiting your interaction with those in the game cut back against that expansion? .
Sure, but for those who didn't read the books, it was a very short event of nothing. Cool, some famous person from some books are going to fly through space... oh, dead... ok.
Wow. That's messed up. Maybe HP was hired to kill her as well?
Well, I still have a hard time seeing this single one time event that required not only to have read a couple of books, time the event, spend one hour in open in the wrong instance (or if lucky in the same), and then it's just over really is a good argument to why people should stop playing Solo and turn to Open. Unless, of course, this wasn't a single event but something ongoing, repeated, where more chances to participate was offered, and such. Anyone why played Solo every hour of the day could have joined then in open for 1 hour and then gone back to solo and never looked back. So it's really not a good argument to why people should play open, again, unless this was something that would continue to be available.
Perhaps that's another kind of Buckyball racing. Someone arranging a "mysterious delivery" from point a to b, and people sign up to protect, and other people try to infiltrate. Then perhaps it would be more interesting, but the game engine doesn't have to change for this happen. This is up to the player community to arrange then. Perhaps some of the famous griefers could be arranging it?
I'm planning to, but I'm not sure reading the books would make me play in Open more...?
The only thing the Salome event taught me was that you get more from watching the Youtube than participating.
The way I still see it is that Open is just a form of a higher difficulty level. Solo is easy mode. PG is nice PvE mode. Open is bad-a** mode.
Agree.Nope - reading the books won't make you play open more, not anymore, anyway, it's just entertaining, and has some interesting little bits of lore.
More of these events would be awesome, but I still think that if they all ended the same way as Salome, no one would be impressed. The thing about the Salomé event is, that it was a first time attempt to try and draw a lot of people into a story. A valiant enough effort, but I think everyone learned something, and hopefully those lessons will help with any such future event.
Z...
It's not just the money, but the name on the virgin discoveries. I have a bunch of black holes, neutron stars, terraforming candidates, etc. Those are all exciting to have flagged in the system with your name tag. But you only get it if you go back to a station and turn in your discoveries.I'm primarily an explorer. If I was worried about a paycheck I wouldn't be an explorer. No amount of credits lost would ever force me into Solo or PG because that's not what exploration is about.
And that's where I disagree with you. I don't lose out anything on random player interaction. I've tried it, and it doesn't do anything for me. Actually, I'm a little annoyed by it when I do play in Open. Even more so if I know that players in Open consider my views "nonsense." It makes me less interested in interaction with them.On top of that you lose out on so much random player interaction. One of the guys I fly with fairly frequently I met randomly out in the black (like 1:1mil odds). He's French, and this is his first experience with the series. Well to refresh your memory the comment you quoted was in jest.
However, I don't think anywhere I have said would prefer to murder ethically? I'm not sure how that's even a thing.
Personally I've decided at the moment to take a more criminal with morals based approach. I started up the Black Void Syndicate on Inara and we have a few players. I really just wanted to operate outside of the confines and structures of the establishment. Answer to no one, but at the same time why kill other players needlessly? That's what I mean by having morals, pirate sure but kill for sport? No.
My play style has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Simply put and I think you can plainly see it in this thread alone some have a rather pent up animosity for open. I was simply wondering what had led to that animosity. As you can see from a few posts down one poster is upset the topic was brought up again, to which I have already made a comment on earlier on this thread to answer that question as they weren't the first. Mentioning playing in open stirs up a lot of feelings and it seems to be one of the more decisive topics. For someone who hasn't played any of the other Elites and was introduced to this game on PS4 it's natural to wonder why this decisiveness and attitude exists in the first place.
Thanks for the verbal scolding on what you believe my behavior to be.
Whether people play in open or solo is of no concern to me.
Would I rather them play in open? Sure, I believe it helps the games staying powe, especially on the PS4. Plus, in my opinion it allows for more variation in game play activities and incidents that take place. Simply put games have moved away from the play by yourself model and the games that have the staying power that last longer tend to have a better more inclusive multiplayer aspect. I love playing this game and would hate to see it impacted because it didn't have the support it needed from the player base. I doubt very much that would happen on PC, but sales on PS4 were below expectations and that could have an impact down the road.
Oh my, did I fail to qoute the "jk lol" at the end of your comment?
Nope. There wasn't one. In fact, your comment fit in perfectly with the rest of the thread in which you posted it. That thread began as a comment on pirating NPCs and wound up a discussion of how to engage in PvP piracy. One guy even said he had to kill some of his reluctant and uncooperative victims in order to be taken seriously. No jokes were evident. Perhaps we need another color? A shooting forum I frequent uses purple for sarcasm since it doesn't come over well in a text based medium. Perhaps blue when it's a joke so someone other than oneself will know. At least when it really is a joke.
I don't disagree with the latter part of that comment.
I will not hand over cargo. Period. I don't do trade for the sake of trade. As such all the cargo I carry belongs to someone else. They have merely entrusted it to me for delivery. It is not mine to give. As a result I'm going to fight to the very end no matter the outcome. When you speak of stealing morally (whatever in the galaxy that is) you are speaking of murder. At least as far as the activity relates to me.
The Black Void Syndicate suggests that the innocent eye batting is just a ruse. It might also help explain why many people have such a strong aversion to open.
It was textual, and more of a learning opportunity if you'll give it some thought.
Yet you asked just as if it was.
Interesting argument. If we don't play in open and subject ourselves to the excesses of the bad children Frontier will shut down ED.
Right.
MP is the lifeblood of games on consoles for better or worse.
I guess that means AC: Origins is bound to fail. Just like the Uncharted series and Horizons: Zero Dawn and Skyrim and all other single-games....
ps - I am a console gamer.

Right.
Reminds me of something I did in Open once.I've learned to live with open. Just that you can't leave your ship unattended at a popular system undocked, or even terrain landed because there is often a chance some griefer bushwacker is going to wreck your ship for the lulz.
I enjoy Open Play for the opportunity to interact with other CMDRs and hopefully do a little networking. But I don't expect or demand everyone to hop over to Open for my pleasure. It's their $60. If Solo or Private are what they enjoy then I wish them the best. Them not playing Open hasn't ruined my experience in the slightest. In the 4 or so days I've started playing on PS4 (I used to play on PC) my history list has filled with other CMDRs, and not a single one was hostile. One shot across my bow every time I entered or exited a station, but I'm in a Conda and a direct hit would have likely peeved local security, so I wasn't worried about it.
