I appreciate the welcome! And aye, I just didn't want folks that prefer solo or Private to think I'm passing any sort of judgement due to my preferences. It's good to keep all options open in case they'd like to do a private group with open players.
One can see your ship and know your cmdr name. But there is no indication as to what platform you're on when they attack. .
@ Curvemn17: Some players just do not want to play with others. Many players just do not want to be cannon fodder for others. Elite is still too unbalanced and unfair to play in open at all cost.
Ya I hope the new plans for C&P will balance that in this regard. I also hope it doesn't destroy the career pirate path because it looks like this will not only impact PvP but PvE. I love being able to pirate NPCs right now, it's a lot of fun especially with some wing mates. From what I have read and heard it seems that most of the cannon fodder has been on the PC and for the most part, now some have different experiences, but most on PS4 haven't run into the cannon fodder there yet.
You'll still be able to pirate in Anarchy systems, which I think is fair. Players will still gripe (especially when CG is located in an Anarchy), but I figure that's on them for visiting an Anarchy to begin with.
I think you can still pirate anywhere, it's just the penalty that's differ, but I could be wrong. Also, the penalty really only sets in when your ship is shot down. If you can continue to do piracy and stay alive, the bounty will just accumulate. But of course, then the target on your back will keep on growing since other players then would love to get the payout for taking you down. Given the problems of cross instancing,it would be fair to assume that any commander in your instance is running on the same platform.
Not what I meant. I didn't state people hate me playing in open. I'm asking why so many people; your comment included now, say they play in solo. What drives you away from playing in open? Is it a desire to play by yourself in solo or is it a desire to avoid undesirables in open?

Griefers. plain and simple Griefers. If I had a bounty on me, then I am in play and fair game, but when you're on a passenger mission, and not particularly well armed, and a griefer takes you out just because he can. That's why I play in PG. Griefers think it's good sport to shoot up players on the ground.
Python would be my choice. The FDL doesn't really do much. You have to engineer it for glass-cannon or something, and that's it. Or engineer it for speed and play with it as a luxury sports car.I play in mobius when deep space exploring, too much risk to lose the data
will switch to open at a station to see whats around
Bubble normally open unless in middle of a mission or something
CG is all about open, but I will invariably get wasted by a PvP if in a slow ship, thats why Im going to sell my T9 for a FDL or Python

I'd like some input here as someone who exclusively plays in open. I constantly read while perusing the forums people stating they only play solo or PG and that they won't even bother with open. What's the deal? Are people that afraid of losing their ship and ending back at the rebuy? I get dropping to solo if you can't get a parking spot at a CG or something like that, but to completely ignore he entire galaxy out there seems to go against what this game means.
What does rankle me is those that would kill me or other players without a symbolence of role play. As far as I know, cycotic killer is not a role play choice.
So this is why I more often than not play not in open.
Chief
And this is a sad but true observation many have. As this is the PS4 forum, and as a PS4 player - I have been playing in OPEN since the launch. Ive logged I think around 6 days of gameplay time (lets say 150 hours). I was rank killed once at a CG when I was a noob and not paying attention (ram raided), I was bumped a second time ALSO at a CG, but am wiser than I was then so nothin happened. I was role-play intercepted, the player pirates wanted some cargo - I didn't pay and I escaped (there was 2 of them Clipper and corvette I think) - guess what ALSO at a CG.
Play in OPEN - theres nobody really about. There are only two areas where you find these cycotics as you put it - CGs and exploit systems such as the good ol Rhea / Ceos / Sothis / Quince etc. etc. and if you are hanging around them - then you are trying to use an 'exploit' in Frontiers confused mission systems and really have nothing to cry about IMO.
Honestly OPEN is not that bad!! It would also be a lot friendlier if you all friendly but slightly wary Cmdrs cam along and joined us!!! Happy to wing with anyone for almost anything.
