Couldn't we at least have gotten a vote about the future of Elite?

Unless they player doesn't want to RP as a member of a dynasty, in which case problem created.

There's nothing wrong with individual players or player groups headcanoning this stuff if it makes it easier or more engaging to deal with character death. All I'm saying is that it's impossible to come up with an explanation that will please everyone, so why bother? Just leave "Game Over / Continue" as a game feature and move on. You're still not going to please everyone, but you won't have wasted any manhours trying. And you won't end up backing yourself into a corner with things like Holo-Me, and the mystical telepresence technology whose power ranges from the godlike to the impotent depending on how you're trying to use it.

Indeed. It annoys me a bit when FD try and explain gameplay with bizarre lore reasons that don't really fit with established lore anyway. I wish they would just say "use whatever headcannon you want" and be done with it.

Im just saying, that Im willing to pay for a good Space Legs. Meaning the interiors of all the ships, bases, and stations (to a realistic point) with things to do aside from just walk around.
It honestly feels like that frontier is just hanging up the coat on this game with these "free" updates, or the rest of our content that we paid for.

Why would a game developer let some dilettantes decide through voting what to do.
It would be a sure way to destroy the company.
The mere fact that you want them to prioritize spacelegs now, at this time, is madness.

Spacelegs is a huge amount of work.
It needs completely new gameplay, new mechanics, it needs ship interiors, station interiors, player weapons, tools, gadgets, spacesuits etc. etc. etc.
Do you really expect FD to concentrate on that at this stage of development and deliver it in 2018 ?

If so, then you have absolutely not the slightest idea about the incredible scope of this project.

First and foremost Elite is a spacesim and therefore we really need the current core mechanics, like exploration, mining, bounty hunting, scavenging, piracy etc to be fleshed out.

I like spacelegs too. I would love to be able to walk around in my ship or don a spacesuit, or infiltrate a base to steal intel etc.
But first things first...

At this point Ill take any improvement to the game. FD are so slow you would think the game had been abandoned a long time ago. Sure I want space legs, and they haven't exactly said they aren't working on it like they have with colored huds, but Ill probably be in retirement before it happens.

Btw, how are they going to explain how everyone in universe can suddenly walk?

Onionhead got medicinally legalized in the UK maybe?

Amen.

Half the fun of gameplay compromises is coming up with headcanon, and sharing it with others. As soon as as an official explanation *cough* telepresence *cough* comes around, people who care about such things precede to vivisect it, exposing every flaw, plot hole, and bitbof fridge logic.

Which is why I choose to ignore certain bits of FD gameplay related lore and use my own.

We did vote for what we wanted when we backed via Kickstarter, of course FD have dropped or changed about 50% of what they promised, but that's what happens whn companies already have your money, they don't have to listen to you any longer and instead can go their own way (at least until they run ouit of money, then they have to add whatever will bring in new customers).

One of the original vlogs has a short clip of some lovely boiling clouds that looked like they were in the atmosphere of a gas giant for instance but after all these years we still only have Powerplay and CQC (CQC was kept secret, never mentioned in ANY of the preview stuff) instead.

PS4 CMDR. I don’t want space legs or FPS. I don’t need to walk around a station or planet surface. I don’t want to see groups of pilots on a surface break dancing ala Destiny or firefights with aliens on derelict ships. Players should wait for Star Citizen if they want those things, but don’t hold your breath. Please keep ED a serious space flight simulation.

Game developments aren't known to be a democratic operation even if they sometimes ask for our oppininions. So no, we don't get a vote. They do allow us to express our opinions in the forums as you have.

Also you couldn't do anything dangerous with spacelegs because there is no way to handle death properly without breaking either the world or lore/coherence. Unless we're all walking around as projected holograms, but that will turn everything silly. Telepresence was a mistake.

It's not all telepresence though. If your ship is destroyed you are dead. You haven't been a telepresence on the bridge the entire time. You rebuy and are magically resurrected. That's fine, that's how games are. I don't need to equate that with reality.

I just brush off that telepresence nonsense. If someone multicrews they're actually there in my eyes. I can see a fighter being controlled via telepresence but the actual person is still on the bridge of the mother ship.

So same with space legs. We can walk around and die, and we will respawn. I'm fine with that.

Nothing like another vote that makes the game more tedious and needlessly long-winded, eh?

Remember what happened last time?

That vote had nothing to do with immersion, it had to do with game balance.

We already have instant respawning at a station after ship destruction, instant ship outfitting, instant repairs, instant cargo loading/unloading and we even have instant telepresence with zero latency for multicrew. The problem with instant ship transfer wasn't immersion. It was that players would fly their 60 ly stripped-down Asp and instantly transfer their 12 ly FDL and completely remove the only real limitation that combat ships have in the game, i.e., a limited jump range.

Immersion and game balance are different concepts. Instant transfers were voted down by the majority of the community because of how it would negatively affect game balance, yet for some reason certain players have managed to completely misunderstand that concept despite the numerous and detailed threads discussing it at the time that vote was made.

I'm with you.

Very little in the game reflects reality. I really don't know what all the fuss is about.

In truth, I wonder if anyone can name one process end to end in the game that follows the rules of the real world?

It's a game.
