You need to have a word with FD about how you'd add this feature, because they seem to be under the impression that it cannot be done.Well if It was up to me I'd add a feature to keep a player's ship in-game for a few minutes after disconnect when he or she is in a combat situation.
let players do it: base building.
it's not that simple, but doable. could start on airless planets, real estate there is more than enough. a collection of pluggable prefab modules could do. could be expanded gradually: landing pads, srv hangars, even station services.
would need some extra server to store all the crap, though, but it's feasible. i'm betting people would go crazy with it. just to have their own personal or faction settlements. for screenshots (that's what suns and planets are used for anyway), roleplay or video content. added gameplay would be a bonus and could come later. again, there isn't much to do already and they created a whole galaxy for it. what's a few more human constructions?
would also make a superb credit sink. construction modules could be expensive, would need to be transferred from stations. maybe by the own players in t9's with special cargo racks (engineeeeeeeer!). so if you want to have your base in beagle point that's on you. voilà, activities!
uh, never mind. good morning. i definitely need some tea.
I'm with you on this. Do people not go for walks in real life for no other reason than to admire the natural beauty? Why does a game need to be any different?
I would be happy with that. It's one of the reasons why I backed the Kickstarter to LEP level then bought another LEP through the Backers' App. Because FD said in the FAQ and Newsletters that it was part of their plan. They didn't say it would come with oodles of new gameplay, although that would obviously be a bonus. Just that it was part of the plan. A selling point, if you will.
Right. Sooner or later every game comes up against a situation that is in the domain of the player, not the character they're controlling. What to do when a character dies is a prime example. At these points, accepting that it's a game and providing an out-of-universe mechanism until the in-universe world can be re-asserted is the most obvious option.
Even FE2 and FFE had a "Game Over" / Click To Re-Start screen. This obsession with making everything part of the "simulation" is new to ED and is what's led to abominations like telepresence. When a player character dies (assuming the player has the asserts and intent to continue) then they re-spawn. No need for an explanation. They just re-spawn. In the ship in orbit, in a new ship at a station, in the SRV, or standing on their spacelegs on last safe rock they were stood on. It doesn't matter how. The game stopped, the player made a choice that re-engaged with the game, the game carried on. Any attempt to put that in-universe is just an exercise in frustration.
Some good gameplay could be made including death if the character, instead of creating a character as prime objective you create a family.
Second you create a character, when the toon dies, next of kind takes over the dynasty. Problem solved.
Yes, you can vote about the future of Elite.

Unless they player doesn't want to RP as a member of a dynasty, in which case problem created.Second you create a character, when the toon dies, next of kind takes over the dynasty. Problem solved.
Couldn't we at least have gotten a vote about the future of Elite?
