Alien archaeology and other mysteries: Breaking News, Theories and Tinfoil Hattery

Things i wonder though...cylops, basilisk and medusa classes, all mythical creatures which petrify people. Wonder if more are coming still... cockatrice class?

Euryale, Gorgon, I think there a few more things that turn people to stone.

Cyclops don't, they're just a one eyed giant, so I'm assuming it's just mythical names.

As was pointed out to me on Discord, the Cyclops in Castlevania does turn people to stone. :) Maybe they're going for a broader mythology.

Holy, mother mercy! Did you see those stations? DID YOU SEE THOSE!? They were crippled beyond any possibility of repairs! A complete disaster! I have evacuated roughly 700 people, and recued more than 80 escape pods.

But we are talking about research here...

I have observed that in the attacked systems there seems to be a high concentration of NHSS.My military self says that they are fully attacking those systems to force us to retreat, but once again they keep scanning us and not attacking directly. We are missing something in all this mistery....

How's this for a theory:

The Thargoids are engaging in information warfare and terrorism to divide and conquer.

By ignoring civilian pilots unless they're carrying Thargoid tech or stay too close, they've successfully sowed doubt as to their motivations, all while smashing military targets.

They attacked civilian megaships and people didn't believe the reports.

We now have them on video attacking space stations, killing thousands and leaving the rest terrified. People are *still* making excuses for them. It's the largest round of blame the victim the galaxy has ever seen.

Maybe they just understand us a little too well.

How about a Chimera that change its configuration based on the amount of damage it takes!

Thought of that, but does not fit to my conspiracy theory about the connection between names and shapes. That is the reason why I typed "greek dragons" into the search engine. Time will tell. Fly safe.

Btw, one of the old greek monsters was a Python.

Faked by AEGIS to start a war.

Use their own AX weapons to damage the Oracle (explaining why it wasn't destroyed, just repairable damage). Any VFX graduate from Achenar could knock that "footage" up  Save the bugs!

EDIT: oh no, there's midnight-black DBS's on visual, gotta go silent running...

Given the name theories going on... maybe we should try Mirrored Surface Composites and Chrome Paintjobs [noob]

On a more seroius note, i think the names (at least basilisk and medusa, never heard off cyclops turning someone into stone afaik) could be a reference to their shutdown field that disable our ships (turn them into stone)... just speculations though ^^

I doubt the AEGIS faked the attack.

From a Thargoid perspective, it was probably fully justified. It was a small scale strike against the research/production capability terror organisation.

I doubt the Thargoids are concerned about acronyms, so for them AEGIS = INRA. A producer of weapons of mass production that uses torture research.

This attack was a peace keeping mission. ;)

This is what I thought to.

Cyclops are more know for striking people with lightning bolts or just eating people.

Medusa and Gorgon are the same thing, or to be precise Medusa was a gorgon along with her sisters.

Why would they bring in a game mythology?

yup you have a good point there, as you say it could be a reference to what they do in game, basalick and madusa do indeed turn living things to stone and you could be right as its ref to the shutdown pulse, the cyclops are known for being builders, blacksmiths and craftsmen, so can you attribute what they do in game to something like that?

EDIT: Cyclops are also know as herdsmen, that would fit with them picking up pods i guess, when they get provoked they are a force to recon with also in game behaviour.

I also find this very interesting about Aegis, also has links to Greek mythology: The modern concept of doing something "under someone's aegis" means doing something under the protection of a powerful, knowledgeable, or benevolent source. The word aegis is identified with protection by a strong force with its roots in Greek mythology

The Guardians or Oresrians perhaps? They both seem to know a lot more than we do about dealing with Kalaxians...

Not realy want to think about the reference this brings to my mind... Escape pods and stuff

Im not sure that it is "AEGIS" per se they are attacking.
I think their agressive behaviour towards the stations doesnt differ from their reactions to us, since im quite sure AEGIS have stored a wasteload of Thargoid and even Guardian tech in those stations.

Yup, afaik "Aegis" comes from the greek word for sheepskin and is a reference to a shield/a skin used as one by Zeus.
But maybe the greek references are just coming from the Systems the Goids acting in, since "Pleiades" and the names of the stars all have their origin in greeek mythologie.

Could be, but they haven't attacked Obsidian orbital(yet). They also seem to have broken of the attack when the station was crippled enough to need evacuation. They could have gone further, if they wanted to kill everyone.

Most first hand descriptions of the Thargoids, paints them as rational to the extreme. They do what they think is needed, without anger or empathy. Without a reason, they do nothing.

The names are given by the Pilots Federation. I'm sure they have a reason for the names. :)
