Hardware & Technical Saitek x55 rhino

Hi Vagabund,
You need to ensure that you have installed the usb3 drivers from your computer or motherboard vendor.

The other thing i did was disable legacy usb support in the bios.

Both of these fixed the issue and no more space rage when boosting in to the tower in front of the landing pad

Latest USB3 motherboard drivers are installed.

Legacy USB support is not disabled I believe. Will check tonight and disable if on and see if this resolves the issue.

Thank you very much for your speedy answer ZZR600. Good to have people here who find solutions to annoying issues :D

Is there an XML generator like this for Elite:
http://www.constellationcorporation.com/xmlgen

This ones for Star Citizen but being able to visualize mapping to buttons is great. On my pc they just list a s joy1-joy30something which doesn't really match anything written on the HOTAS device itself.

You'll find one for the X-55 in my signature. It goes a step further in that it turns the XML configuration in to your own personalised HOTAS guide. Enjoy!

Maybe somebody can help me out here. I can't figure out where on the ingame control menu can I find the key bindings for Supercruise, and Hyperdrive. I can't find them anywhere!!!

Also for some reason I can't seem to be able to map this button for anything in the game. The game treats it as if I didn't press it, I circled the button in question in red on this picture:

FX3aRpE.jpg

And one last thing. In the Saitek software, underneath the settings, where you have the LED Brightness, that slider doesn't work. I drag it left and right and it doesn't change the brightness at all. Also once I click on either the Joystick or the Throttle also in the settings menu everything is greyed out. I can't click on any of the interface buttons or anything. Like so:

ZAC27a6.jpg

The only button I can click on is the BACK button. Nothing else, none of the sliders, none of the curve profiles, etc.

I didn't have any error messages during the install. And in the programming menu, it recognizes all the button presses and so forth. I is so confused :S:S

Maybe somebody can help me out with my problems. Under the key binding menu in the game I can't locate the option to map my supercruise and hyperdrive. There is nothing labeled as such so I can't map my buttons to it. What am I doing wrong?

Also on the throttle the black thumb button isn't being recognized by the game. I move it about and the game doesn't bind it to anything. This is the button I'm talking about:
FX3aRpE.jpg

Some other weird things I noticed. In the Saitek X55 software under the settings tab using the LED brightness slider does nothing. The LED's are constantly one brightness on both my devices. When I click on either picture also under the settings tab none of the buttons/sidlers except the Back button work for me. Everything is grayed out like so:

ZAC27a6.jpg

During the install I had no error messages. Everything installed correctly,
The software version is: 7.0.33.91 Driver version: 7.0.32.81 64 bit version.

My current os is Win 8.1 x64

HALP!!! :S:S

Anyone got a solution?

No. And it doesn't happen all the time, which makes it difficult to figure out too. It's running fine now, but it can get glitchy at odd times. I have a theory, and it's a bit wild so feel free to cut it down.

With my Windows 8.1 PC's I've noticed that they act a bit ... odd ... when there is an OS update that needs to be applied. I noticed that I did have an outstanding update when the X-55 was acting odd. After rebooting and applying the patches, it was fine.

I'll keep an eye out next time the X-55 starts to play up again. Check to see if there are any unapplied updates. Reboot it and see what happens.

I did say it was a wild theory.

I've already been told that the drivers do not support Windows 8.1 by Saitek Support. God only knows if and when they'll address any issues.

Strangely the only issue I ever encountered with the drivers and software was in the throttle calibration and axis screen where i had to replug the throttle unit for it to allow me to program the curves and deadzones etc.

What 'glitches' are you referring to though? As the one that Vagabund describes is a constant issue which effects the throttle and it's switches only.

I'm hoping the fact that Vagabund has remained silent since their last post and the fixes provided is a good sign they have had some quality game time with no ghost key presses........ but could be wrong :D

Edit: Also since I found the fix some time ago, others have discovered that a high powered USB hub also fixes the issue. The issue appears to be the power draw of the throttle is too much for most USB controllers to support and causes power spikes which fires off the button commands in the throttles controller board. So if you can't fix the issue with your on board connections, consider either borrowing a hub from someone you know or even invest in an add in USB3 PCI-E card

F1seb,

Regarding your questions,

Supercruise/hyperspace are now under one command which is Frameshift i believe. It's default is binded to J on the keyboard. It makes sense to have it as one button since you will only use supercruise in system and hyperspace when leaving unless you want the scenic route out.

The nipple which is the control you're hi-lighting isn't that well supported in game if at all so just ignore it. May be able to send a support ticket and have them add functionality as they were interested in peoples control setups.

The issue with the saitek rhino software is a bug with Win 8.1. With those particular screens open, try unplugging the relevant controller and plugging it back in. Should enable the sliders and options.

To get the game to recognize the mouse nipple, I had to open the HUD software and adjust the Mouse X Axis to "Mouse X" and the Mouse Y Axis to "Mouse Y". Then it was detected perfectly.

It should look like this:

I had played only for 1 hour yesterday and had no glitches at first, but suddenly outside a station the boost went off again for no reason. It could had been a coincidence, so I will be testing further.

If the issue shouldn't be gone, I will try the powered USB hub or PCI-E card. I didn't know about these 2 potential solutions. Thanks for making us aware of that :D

The prof version of the X55 might be the X65, mostly metal and closer in price to the warthog hotas.

Looks nice but its £300 and I don't know if the software is the same as the software for the X55.

I'm currently using a MS FFB2 and keyboard and do alright.
I only have one issue with ED: I have a hard time fine tuning a shot for faraway targets. My FFB2 cant quite make that finite adjustment without swinging wide.

I fly other sims with no problems...in fact, I couldnt be happier with my FFB2 (mostly a prop sim guy, WW1 RoFF/Woff). I also have a ch throttle quadrant with 3 levers and 3 switches, but it's of no value with ED so far.

So this has got me wondering if I should upgrade to a HOTAS system.
Everyone seems to rave about the X52pro, and I found one (had to sort thru dozens of X52s which said they were pros, but werent) for $100.
However, I can get the Rhino X55 for $200, and I can afford this cost (like I said, I've been flying my FFB2 for a LONG time :).

From what I've read in this thread, and a few other sites, the X55 has some issues and is need of a "pro" version...Dunno how long that might take tho, since the Rhino was just released.

Any thoughts on X52pro OR the X55 if price isnt an issue?

I get that too.

General windows glitchiness. Mouse not working properly. Not being able to terminate programs in Windows. Not being able to start windows. It happens on my Surface 2 Pro as well. Apply the windows patches, reboot and all is well .... or perhaps it's the reboot that does it, but it seems to coincide always with a windows update that's been loaded but not applied. It's only started happening since Windows 8.1.

Ahhhh .... My X-55 is plugged into an unpowered USB hub. But I do have a powered hub nearby (I have way too many devices plugged in). You could be onto something there.

Add me to the club regarding this unwanted command firing issue while moving the throttle.

Never had this problem before.
Now that I have the Oculus DK2 plugged in (2 more USB ports used) : BAM !

Here I got "silent running" and "cargo doors" triggering while moving the throttle.
No need to say it can be quite annoying in certain situation (ie. combat) :D

I will try to unplug some USB device to see if it helps.
If not, I guess I will go the powered HUB way.

I seem to have partly 'broken' one of the buttons on my X55 after a couple of months. The H3 button to the right of the 'red' button on the throttle normally has travel in all directions and springs back into place. When I press it left there is no travel and it doesn't spring back.

I suspect the reason in that I've worn out some plastic inside as it is in constant use, being mapped to my thrusters.

Anyone opened one of these up, and able to suggest a fix? I should add that the button still registers, but there is no tactile feedback now, so I'm never sure if I'm accidentally pressing left.

Don't open it, open a support ticket with Madcatz. I'm afraid the turnaround time hasn't been amazing on getting a replacement but I don't think it's wise to poke around inside a £180 peripheral while under warranty. I'd imagine the throttle is a bit more complex than the stick so I'd play it safe.

Thank you both very much. The tips from the both of you have rendered the results I was looking for. Sorry for the double postings and cluttering up that last page.

Those of you looking for a X55 (in Europe), preiscompany.de has them in stock. They sell via Amazon.de and Amazon.co.uk, but I opted to order directly from their website, as via either Amazon's they wouldn't ship to The Netherlands. Also, the stick comes out cheaper when ordered directly.

There are a couple of other (cheaper) sellers on amazon.de, but they will only ship to .de, .ch, .at and .lu

Not affiliated with any of the above mentioned companies, just pointing out there is a (much) cheaper option than amazon.co.uk. Hope to receive mine next Monday, already got the T&T code (ordered yesterday).

Regards.

Setting the nipple X & Y didnt do anything for me, still isnt working, and doesnt appear to work from the test page either.

On top of that, I had turned the LEDs off, but when I turned them back on again tonight, only the joystick lights came up. The throttle lights, apart from the Mode indicator are non-existent now it seems...

I'm up for one of these :D

It says it's EUR 179,99 but when i translate the page it shows it as £179,99 is this correct ?

If that's google translate then I think it's trying to take a cut for itself :)

It's definitely 179 euros but postage will probably push it up a fair bit but probably still cheaper than ordering OK. Don't think it's going to qualify for super saver delivery to us Brits;)
