Hardware & Technical Saitek x55 rhino

Edit: Also since I found the fix some time ago, others have discovered that a high powered USB hub also fixes the issue. The issue appears to be the power draw of the throttle is too much for most USB controllers to support and causes power spikes which fires off the button commands in the throttles controller board. So if you can't fix the issue with your on board connections, consider either borrowing a hub from someone you know or even invest in an add in USB3 PCI-E card

Hi ZZR600 and All,

After about 3 hours of playing I can confirm that the issue has been resolved. Adding a USB3 PCI-E card to my system and connecting the X55 to it instead to the onboard USB3 connectors fixed it.

No more rogue commands are given to my ship, now it is under my full control again ;)

Thank you very much ZZR600 for pointing me to the right fix.

For those who missed relevant messages, here is a summary on how to fix the issues with the X55 throttle giving rogue commands to your ship, such as activating "boost" or "silent running" and opening "cargo doors" while moving the throttle.

1. Connect your Rhino X55 HOTAS to your onboard USB3 ports. Don't use your USB2 ports, which don't provide sufficient power to the X55.
2. Disable USB legacy support in your mainboard's BIOS.
3. If #1 and #2 don''t fix the issue, add a PCI-E USB3 card to your system or use a powered USB 3.0 hub. With that added your X55 is getting enough power.

Now you should have gained back full control of your ship.

Thanks again for your help ZZR600.

No worries, it's such a simple thing in itself but Madcatz support will have you running in circles. At the price they should throw a hub or pci-e card for free lol

Look forward to bumping in to you in game, just need to get my stick back but it was taking the game to another level when i was using it. Would advise getting a head tracker which the EDTracker from these very forums comes highly recommended.

ALSO, going back to the topic of lubricants for the X55. Those of you that missed it, this is the reason why my X55 had an RMA done to replace after using graphite powder which some have recommended here. Silicone lube which is recommended by Madcatz does a fair job but i have this weekend tried PTFE lube from WD40 on my FLY5 unit and can say it's fantastic. Just a little split second dash is all it needs on the shaft collar.

My advice is to only use silicone and PTFE lubes and stay away from people's advice of graphite, chapstick, standard WD40 etc. You will damage the plastic, have dirt/gunk getting trapped and never have a smooth play again on the stick.

If that's google translate then I think it's trying to take a cut for itself :)

It's definitely 179 euros but postage will probably push it up a fair bit but probably still cheaper than ordering OK. Don't think it's going to qualify for super saver delivery to us Brits;)

Ok Thx :D I might order one this week

Setting the nipple X & Y didnt do anything for me, still isnt working, and doesnt appear to work from the test page either.

On top of that, I had turned the LEDs off, but when I turned them back on again tonight, only the joystick lights came up. The throttle lights, apart from the Mode indicator are non-existent now it seems...

have you activated the profile and closed the hud window? the mouse will not work when the hud window is open (i think not even in the test window).

do the other controls show up as working in the profiler software's programming tab? my drivers have been (self?)destructed 3 or 4 times already :S making the stick+throttle work well in games but they could not be programmed.

Saitek X55

Hello Fellow ED'rs!

Does anybody know if there is a configuration file available for users of the Saitek Rhino X55 HOTAS?

The test window doesn't show anything as working. In game everything works bar the mouse nipple.

I got the lights working again by uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and software.

And I'm getting twist stick on the joystick, absolutely impossible now to do a smooth motion slowly with no jerks.

Gah.

X-55 Joystick Buttons Trigger Issues

Hi guys,

I've read through most of the posts here but I'm coming up with the same issues. I can deploy hardpoints without issue but as soon as I start shooting it all gets a bit odd.
The lasers won't fire then a few seconds after I release they continuously shoot then when I try to mapped my power to help counter the laser fire nothing happens. I can fly fine in all directions, accelerate without issue, boost also works fine (all using the standard X-55 config on E:D).

I've only had the X-55 for a couple of days and the first day was excellent but now it's becoming a pain.

I've got a USB 3 PCI-E card installed and powering/running the HOTAS.
I've tried disabling the legacy for mouse, keyboard and storage devices in my BIOS. Makes no difference for me.
I've had issues with the Saitek software and drive which I've reg cleaned, restarted, re-installed which seems to have solved that wee issue but it could be effecting the game in some way and finally I've ensured that my windows 8.1 is upto date.

Any help or fellow commanders having the same issue would be nice to hear back from you.

This is the first time I hear of such behaviour.

Isn't there a compatibility issue with the X55 Software and Windows 8.1? I read something about it the other day. Not sure which issues this incompatibility would trigger though. May be worth investigating into that direction.

Do you have access to a Win7 PC to test there? Just to be sure it is not a hardware issue with your X55.

Sorry, I can't help you further with your issue.

Don't know about CPC, but I know from my support ticket with MadCatz that Signet, their distribution warehouse, is due a batch on 25/07 which GameShark orders from and possibly other vendors. Can't say how big the backorders are but my replacement is coming out of that batch apparrantly and just in time for Beta.

5th of August was the date I got from them, they told me that last thursday

Hi

have you guys got a despatch note yet?
My CPC order has not changed, still in processing and the website still says awaiting stock.

Beginning to wonder if I should have just stumped up the extra cash, but I have waited so long now................

an email giving me a new ETA would be nice.

I was experiencing the "ghost" key press issue, but updating my USB3 drivers from the manufactures website completely fixed the issue for me!!

Bodkid, what does windows control panel say in the game controllers section when you're pressing buttons? is it instantaneous or is there a delay?

Need to first rule out if it's the controller or the game.

I am one of these gamers being past 50, who had a lot of fun with flight sims back in the early days of gaming... and not being able to get anything going with Elite: Dangerous so far. I regret the times when you received a hefty manual with your game. :)

So, I apologize profusely for my noob question regarding the mapping of my new X-55. I find the Controls menu in-game to be anything but user-friendly. I thought I might use the Rhino software to create the HOTAS profile for ED. However, the file has a .pr0 extension, and the game uses .xml files. How do I manage to convert the .pr0 in .xml, or make the X-55 .pr0 profile to work within ED?

I thank you very much in advance for your help and advice!

There are enough buttons on X55 to map all actions directly. However, to make everything easier you might take a look at this thread:
http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=21522

I don't think you can convert a Saitek profile to an ED config file.

The Saitek software allows you to map buttons to key presses, or create macros, so if you go that route you need to either:
- know what the key mappings are in ED in the first place
or
- create your own keyboard mappings in ED and then map the buttons in the Saitek software to those keys

As you might have guessed, this is long winded and doesn't offer any benefits.

Even though it may be a bit non-user friendly at the moment, the ED options/controls page is where you need to go to set it up.

Not really much to contribute right now other than:
It's here on my desk! I have a X55 :)

What a beast!

:)

Sorry.

I'll go away now, and try to configure the thing.

i know exactly what you mean :D
since i had the reinstall my driver the last time, i cannot use the mouse thingy as a mouse. everyting else works both ingame and in the software. i did not try to use the mouse thingy for anything else yet.

uninstalling and reinstalling both software and drivers seems to be effective at solving problems tough :D

the outer grey ring pops off the two halves, I think it pops up.

Then the two grey halves will be removable if you push the spring down to release them.

no, I don't want to change the spring, I want to dissasembly the joystick entirely, but I don't know how to unmount the ring at the bottom of the stick, the one that connects to the base
