Is ED on life support? A terminal decline?

I think you mean 100 hours in the launcher. Steam doesn't report hours in the game.

As a recent Steam review says, "It's easy to get so many hours - just forget to turn off launcher couple of times."

Nope.

Easy to find negative reviews like this:

"a handful remain vexed that I could put in 500 hours in a game and still have a negative review"[FONT=&quot]

"A Person who purchases a second game account for exploring once the Q1 Beyond update drops". :)

LOL!

What amazes me is how some people apparently here have such a short memory for the Frontier claims of past livestreams such as Horizons would be free for the game's early backers (untrue), vanilla game would get looting and crafting (it didn't) etc. etc.

Either a short memory, or they've only recently become Frontier customers and so have yet to learn...

Is ED on life support? I don't know.

I'll go back to playing it if/when it excites me like it did during the Beta days early 2014. It might happen, It might not. I hope it will. Other people's expectations have been fulfilled, some are not so satisfied. C'est La Vie.

Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR Y'ALL! In 2018 I'm going to try to listen more attentively. I think I've been too consumed about my point of view, and my defensive stance has deafened me on occasions (I'm looking at you EU referendum thread).

Obnoxious love and a strange kind of peace.

Yours, Commander Avago Earo x

I wouldn't bother going to EvE - I was just looking at their forums, and apparently the game is dying...the OP even had some steam data to back it up, so it must be true!

Seriously though, a variant of this thread shows up every two to three weeks on every forum for every single online game out there, and has been popping up on this forum since Beta...nothing new here.

Sounds great to make a statement like that doesn't it? All dramatic and stuff. But it's not true. Can you go find us some links in the archives where there supposedly should be many examples, right? We'll wait right here...

Coincidentally the newsletter has just covered Beyond and is implying that free applies only to Horizons owners.

"We have a lot to look forward to next year, starting with our first Beyond update, hitting in Q1. The Beyond series of updates will be free to all owners of Elite Dangerous Horizons and will include enhancements to Engineering, Crime and Punishment, wing missions and much more"

If enhancements to Crime and Punishment, wing missions etc. are free to free to all owners of Elite Dangerous, why are Frontier saying only that they are free to "all owners of Elite Dangerous Horizons"??

Some "Beyond" stuff will touch areas of the game visible and accessible to non-Horizons players, obviously. Tougher security ships aren't going to fly in an shoot only WANTED players with Horizons, lol.

Note for all non-Horizons players: Horizons cost is currently ten quid.

Xmas new PC and few ppl coming on.

There's lot a newecomers, and if i'm not a true "newcomer" i'm part of ppl we are looking back to E:D.

And if you miss some oldies around, keep in mind Star Citizen just released their 3.0 alpha build and probably E:D veterans are running on it, they will come back, rather sooner than later, because actually SC is all but a playable game.

So, no, i dont think the game is "diing"

The sale helped a lot. My wing mate and I were able to get around 4 new commanders on the xbox side launched out in their new sidewinders, one who had the game downloaded and just didn't get into it the first time around and two more about the pull the trigger. Being Paladins (gratuitous plug) we have been teaching them the basics and helping them along. We have taken some of them out to long distance sites in multi crew to get them interested in the ongoing story. I don't see it terminal. At least on our end, we're supporting it all the way. o7

How games are born. :)

Meeting in David Braben's office:

David: I've been looking at the sales for Elite. They're all over the place?!

Sales Exec: Yes, can't explain it. Up one minute, down the next.

David: Like a rollercoaster.

Sales Exec: You know, that's not a bad idea...

Right.

My bad.

14 not 24.

And it's still counting unique players. You could login everyday over those two weeks, but it will only come up as once on that chart.

It's not how many logins per 2 week, it's how many unique players per 2 weeks. So on steam at the moment, it has had 140,000 unique players play in the last two weeks. How many time they login is irrelevant.

I'd say the important bit is how much they play as you might want to get a small pic at the new updates and then possibly wait 6 months till then.

I'd say at this point that any player of Elite who still plays only the base game must be crazy. Horizon is 2 years old.
I'd agree that at its present price-point it makes a very attractive upgrade. All the proc-gen detail for landable planets is in Horizons: without it, they look very bland.

But some folk may be running older computers that can't cope well with Horizons.
