Chieftain Size and perhaps other specs

IMHO it will compete with the dropship variants in firepower.

so 4 medium weapons above the cockpit, and maybe 2 mediums below.
give it 5 utility slots (3 top and 2 bottom),
together with at least two class 6 internal slots

and i would totally fine with it.

That would make it by far the best ship in the segment if it ended up more maneuverable than the python....oh......wait......maybe that IS the point? Something to finally be an alternative to the Python? Nah...don't think so...but maybe...

I would certainly trade some of the Python's cargo space for more agility, if this is that trade off, that would be very interesting.

Fast
shield tank
hull tank
agile
firepower
extra optional module slots/fighter bay

Basically, most elite ships possess 4 of the above 6 attributes. I think the Chieftain will have:

Fast
Agile
Firepower
Extra module slots/fighter bay

I think it's going to be short on defense.

I'm really hoping the Chieftain is going to be an answer to Thargoids. The way I see it any ship hoping to take down a Thargoid needs 6 Medium hardpoints (2x Flak Launcher, 2x AX Multi-cannons and 2x AX Missiles.)

There are a number of ships which fit this profile but the 6 hardpoints they each have are wasteful in that they include Large or Huge like Cutter/Corvette/Anaconda. A Fer de Lance is getting there with 4x Medium and 1x Huge but is one hardpoint short. The Federal Gunship has 7 hardpoints but 2 are Small so it too is one hardpoint short.

The other consideration is hull strength and hardness so I'm hoping the Chieftain lives up to its terrestrial namesake and is a hull tank. Its fairly obvious that human shield tech means nothing to a Thargoid weapon so shields need only be a secondary consideration. Maneuverability is also a secondary consideration given that Goids tend to just sit in one spot when attacking but straight-line speed would be a Godsend.

Please, FDev, give me my Goid-gutter for Christmas! :)

6 hardpoints is imho spot on, but i would say 5 mediums are enough, + 1 extra since you would want an anti-shield laser too.
i found the selection of ships, that are able to solo thargoids currently are very limited (FGS, FDS, Beluga, FDL + big 3 and if your REALLY good and able to land every shot, ships with 3-4 mediums)

Were the Chieftain and Krait announced as part of the Q1 update? I know they said several ships were going to be added but since these and the T-10 were the ones talked about and shown during the Expo I assumed Q1.

We all have simular but different play styles. After 7 months based on my style of play the number of crafts I've owned which has been all of them at some point or other, have been reduced to three. A conda, a python and for learning purposes which is only a temporary thing a Vulture.

I will buy and try the Chief on for size and my style of play. Should I like it, I assume it will replace either my conda or python. Depending on it's size. Thought I like the looks of both the conda and the python. I really really like for some reason the chief.

This is kind of where I am on the chieftan. Enough, however, to have made the trip back to the bubble to prep for it when it comes out.

I've updated the OP with new images. have a read.

The trailer pics show beyond all doubt that it's a medium ship, which is great news (IMO).

On the other hand, the Lakon Workbench cockpit...

My main issue is why would it have three seats if there is no SLF. It should only need 2 seats one for the pilot and one for the gunner. Unless they plan to make more roles for multicrew in the future.

White... It's white!!! It's not Imperial, it's the Alliance and we get white... I'm going to start an open letter campaign to FDev... If that doesn't work, I will write several FINAL APPEALS. If necessary, I will write several posts on how the game is dying, possibly throw in a few secret combat logging tests if they don't

Is groveling an option?

:D

I'm sadly going to have to disagree on the ship size for the Chieftain, especially with the image of the cockpit showing three seats. Even with the image posted in the OP, you're looking into the cockpit from an upper left angle, with the seat highlighted as number two actually being the back right seat. My guess will be Chief will be large, while the upcoming Krait will be medium.

In the end, I suppose we'll find out in a couple weeks regardless :D

The Krait is conformed as medium, and I expect the Chieftan to be Dropship sized based on the cockpit view (which scales to a Dropship canopy).

I'd agree with that. My larger worry is that the thruster blast from the front nacelles will efficiently cook the rear ones! :)

If one has ever seen a top down view, it shows the forward nacelles are extended well outwards of the rear nacelles, thus it wouldn't present any problems.
