Chieftain Size and perhaps other specs

That one was me. After I got a better quality image including the underside, I did a second version, based on the cargo hatch size (5.5m x 5.5m) which downsized the ship from Anaconda to Gunship class.

That's a really cool image.

I've noticed that there objects on the rear narcelles that i believe to be rear landing gear. I reckog the forward two purple squares are the bottom are also landing hear... but it could be weapons.

No room for an SLF, and there isn't one depicted anyway. Remember, Frontier said that the Chieftain model was much further along the dev cycle than the Krait, and even the Krait had a clearly shown SLF bay.

So this begs the question: if the third seat isn't for an SLF, what is it for? A new Multicrew role???:D

It does seem to be the same size of a FGS though, and that can carry a SLF.

If the hardpoints are what people say they are aswell, this thing is basically a Lakon version of the FGS in terms of size and firepower, thrusters ofcourse no idea.

If the concept art is accurate, it LOOKS like (and this is pure speculation) that the ship has four Class 2 hard-points on top and two on the underside, with another two Class 3 hard points on the belly! That would give it a firepower factor of 18! The same as the Cutter. (I calculate the firepower factor as the sum of the size of the hard points multiplied by their Class size - i.e. (6 x 2) + (2 x 3) = 18). A Hauler comes in lowest with 1, the Anaconda and Corvette in joint first with 19.

I've been feeding the frames of the Chieftan video into a 2D -> 3D renderer to enable me to get a top-down scale model view. Might reveal something the concept art didn't....

I think it'll probably have 6 mediums (so one weapons factor less than a gunship), and a little more speed to offset.

Notice however that there are obviously two or more variants, so perhaps we should be talking baout the variations rather than a single 'overall' spec.

So yeh, I'm thinking gunship variant as I say with 6 mediums and a boost speed to match the FAS, and dropship variant which will differ in much the same way the FDS differs from the FGS. Anyone know if there will be a third version? I've only see 2 liveries so far...

Perhaps we haven't seen the variant with SLF bay yet.

i think your scale is a tad bit to small, but only a little bit.
I doubt that the red parts are gun slots. the T7 has similar ones, and not all of them are weapons.

even if its as "big" as the gunship, nowhere on the fuselage you is a section wide enough to hide the SLF bay.
and the gunship itself is just a variant of the dropship, which is only 1/3rd as expensive.
the firepower is most defenately something around the Federal dropship variants.

I'm glad to see the way this is progressing.

It seems like a lot of people always want new ships to be bigger and badder than anything we've already got.

Personally, I'd rather we had more choices in each class of ship that we have.

The FdL and FAS aren't exactly "similar" but they do compete for the same "market", albeit in different ways.
I was rather hoping the Chieftain might provide another choice in that segment of the market.

Now, I just hope it's got Lakon's usual decent jump-range and I'll finally have a decent alternative to an up-armored AspX to use as a daily-driver. [up]

I'd rather have more choices in the medium size department. Large ships are boring, and medium ships are lacking in variety (many of the ones that exist are near carbon copies of each other).

Fortunately for me :D, Olivia Vespera's prediction seems by far the most realistic one. If I had to put money on it, I would wager the Chieftain is a medium multipurpose ship, slightly larger than the AspX but smaller than Python.

If the ship is not a huge one, there is no reason why FD cannot revisit the shape later and produce a really BIG version. The shape is too good to waste on just a small/medium ship .... it has the 'look' of a dominator ... in fact that would be a good name for it lol.

An aside, am I the only one who thinks the krait has silly blind spots?

It will be interesting to see what the view is like, since its a bit like flying a parasol monoplane with the wings up top. Having the guns like that (a reversal of the Cobra) will be entertaining.

Nope.

After buying the Vulture ship-kit, I tried ALL the optional nose-bumpers, found them all to interfere with my FOV and never fitted one again.

First thing I noticed about the Krait was that it looks like it'll be even worse than a Vulture with the ship-kit nose-bumpers fitted.

Ok been looking over and over again at that image, can't find a fighter bay anywhere....

Why do people say it carries three crew, cos without an SLF they won't really have much to do. 2 seat ships without SLF already have a problem with thumb twiddling (looks at vulture).

Seriously only way the ship works is if it split in two....

because you can see three chairs in the cockpit, we are asking what the third chair will be for...

Personally hoping for at least a medium sized ships, but would love if it were able to be a small one, though it seems rather unlikely.

Something like a cross between a Diamondback, Vulture, and Cobra or Python, depending on size and if a bit faster than most, would be ideal for me. :)

I think the ship looks great and can't wait to see how it performs. Good work on the mock-up and estimates, OP.

I'd say I'm roughly 80% sure it's a medium sized ship.

I'm very much hopinh for a medium ship in the price range of 40 to 50m cr ish. We need far far more ships in that area to give variety not necessarily to fill a niche but as a new face.
