No Krait in Beyond Chapter One Update

At first thought in terms of the offloading itself, if the AI could handle the driving, the Panther could be offloaded by a shuttle to the station. Even the little stations have that restricted bay.

Now that I think about it more, there seem to be a bunch of considerations for making a ship that can't actually park at any of the existing stuff in terms of how it would reliably interact with the gameplay compared to all the other ships.

Off-station cargo and Re-Fit-Fuel-Supply seem like they'd need a lot of work. IDK how many players are interested in they or their cargo being shot at while they're in the station menu doing business, and we don't do teleporters in Elite. Physical offload sounds interesting but it's also radically different from existing gameplay, and makes it potentially more vulnerable to poaching and AI bork.

Maybe a new class of station designed for a supership? A spacedock or shipyard class seems appropriate; it could likely be built from existing outpost assets attached to a larger framework. I'd probably attach a large pad or two to an otherwise-outpost parking arrangement. Having a new type of compatible station seems like the easiest way to deal with having a ship that can't fit the toaster.

Hey, i was just giving my opinion. I don't see the need for it. But if others want it, that's fine by me. The only time I would get a big ship is when we get proper NPC crew so I can feel like a captain of a ship.

Also I can fit a fighter in my Keelback or my FGS.

Yeah... proper crew, I'll go for that, the last time the Clipper was with us it had a crew requirement of... Fifteen, (I'd love that, "yes Captain" "Yes Captain"... lol)

...and how come you can get a fighter in your lil'ol Keelback and I can't have one in my (Imp) Clipper... that just stinks of prejudice against the Empire!... well the lower ranks of the Empire!

Well, it's certainly big enough for one, you will need to ask FDev as to why. If it did have a SLF bay I would probably pick up a clipper again.

We'll only get the Chieftain. I think they're saving the Krait and Panther Clipper for the update in Q2 or Q3 this year.

Shame I like the look of both but wan kind of hoping for the Krait myself.
Chieftain is a large expensive vessel I guess, I would guess the Krait is smaller more affordable but that is a lot of guessing lol.

I prefer balance all ships before add new ones to an unbalanced system

But in a game in which you more or less are the ship set in a universe with billions of people don't you think there should be far more choice and variation in ships?
I think I get the balancing but more choice could also balance things.

Not sure I understand what you mean here. What inbalance is there between ships, except the different sizes and number of hardpoints?

If you mean Engineers... well, Balance went out the window when engineers entered the room. :)

Yep.. For the Panther to be even marginally worth the effort, it would need to be bigger than a T9/10 by quite something.

So you have the issues of fitting through the letterbox to dock :p

The T9/10 are wide but not too long. The Panther could be like a Beluga/Cutter in length but as wide as the T9 along it's whole chassis, which would still fit on the pad and wouldn't present a bigger front profile to the slot.

Here's a T9 and Cutter glitched together, showing the room fore and aft that the T9/10 leaves on the pad.

There was also a conceptual gif of a Panther Clipper on a landing pad but the only site I can find for it now seems to be down.

Well, there's two small content updates between the Q1 update and the second big update this year. So one ship per update maybe ? Really curious about the Krait, really wanting the Panther. Really wondering how the Chieftain as yet another medium combat oriented ship fits in.

Is the Panther Clipper actually a thing, or are people just wishing really hard again?

Well the Panther Clipper was mentioned during the charity stream for Special Effect with the Q&A with Sandro Sammarco. I suspect it's coming this year.

Well, there IS that Black Panther movie coming out soon. If they provide a black paint job, you could have the....

Black Panther Clipper

Ok, I'll shut up now.

You're probably right, but FDev always has a surprise in every release and who knows what it could be this time?
