The epic win of Beyond

True. The proper phrase in ad speak should be "without extra cost."

Actually, for this game, the proper phrase should be "finally adding/fixing some more things missing or broken from launch three years ago". Folks can dress Beyond up any way they want but FDev themselves have basically said the reason for this series of updates is primarily to fix the game and fill in missing parts. FDev are not on a mission to reward all of us customers with some sort of sweet extra surprise free DLC. No, that's not Beyond.

(Nice moral boosting thread though. The fact that threads like this exist is indeed telling of the state of the game and those responsible for it.)

This thread was started as the comedic counterpoint to the "The epic fail of Beyond" thread, because it's funny. Try some context with your salt, it's refreshing.

I enjoy ED. Bigly. Not sad.

I've played this game on and off since original beta, and must have many hundred hours logged. Which makes it one of those very rare games that can sustain a few hundred hours of game play.

I'm not saying it's faultless, but it has proven to be excellent value for money, even including all the store add ons and frippery that I've succumbed to.

I'm on hiatus until the next beta finishes, and then I'll be happily back into the big black. So well done all at FDev.

P.s. Planet Coaster is a bit tasty too!

I am cautiously optimistic about beyond. The new planet surfaces, new surface features and obstacles and the exploration enhancements are particularly what sounds the most intriguing. Deep space mining with squandons fleet ships sounds like it could be very cool, particularly if it is related to story and plot elements. The new ships look great! I am even loving the T10, despite the crappy PD, it is still a fun ship to roll around in for non-alien related stuff. The new alien scout ships look like they might change things up a bit, and I am hoping the new combat is less slug-festy and more dog-fighty with intro of the agile Chieftain.

So far looking good! And the 25th is just around the corner :)

I know this thread was made to counter the negative nancys but I still dont get the point of either thread.

How can somthing win or lose, when we dont even have it. It might well be full of win and it might do what it says on the tin, but then it might fail and not do any of what it says its going to do, (even I find that hard to belive) I do think when we get to this time next year this forum will still be the same merrygoround of the same old arguments from the same people im right your wrong sort of thing.'

Ill wait till this time next year before passing judgment on the whole thing, yeah there is stuff im looking forward to but untill I see it in game and working as hoped its not even worth worring about.

Its amazing how much waffle one can post whislt drinking coffee on a a break....

Do you have reference for this Ziljan?

Each of these (deep space mining, squadron owned flag ship with repair/rearm/respawn capability, and new player/story elements) are delineated in the dev posts which have been summarized here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/397639-Elite-Dangerous-2018-Roadmap-Regularly-Updated, but combining them to make a coherent update is someing that some of us are only dreaming about. I would highly recommend that you read Erimus' post in the Exploration forums about what could be possible if the devs directed their efforts in a way so that all the individual slated new & existing pieces worked together to make a living breathing fabric. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-getting-the-most-out-of-the-upcoming-content

I read that through. Some superb ideas there and hopefully FDev will be able to get on board with them and allow that kind of gameplay.

If we can control fleet carriers as a group and take them out exploring with us... well, i think i could be gone from the bubble for a looooong time.

As usual - the whiners trying their level best to slowly whittle down the nerves of the Developers. The other thread dissed me so much I had to create this one.
One Intention :THANK you FD for giving us ED. We love the game - and we trust in Braben. Beyond looks awesome - cant wait to try out the scrumptious new planets and the Wing Missions

Salud!

EDIT: Braben's name corrected (Oh the horror)!

i am looking forward to seeing the new planetary lighting........ (my minor concern and i am sure it is unwarranted) i have only seen red moons so far, i hope we do not go from beige plague to beige and red plague (essentially it would mean a choice of the quake palette OR DOOM palette instead of just the quake one ;) ) I am sure it is just the ones i happen to have seen however.

it is the surface update in Q3/Q4 i am really looking forward to tho.

Don't forget that the later planetary update will be re-doing all the rocks on the surface as well as hopefully adding new surface features to make the environments more interesting to explore. Pls mist and fog etc. I expect all of this will make landing on planets very different and the old screenshots will look pretty under-developed by comparison.

Edit: Im going to need a new graphics card though as my 960 is fine on the FPS, but simply doesnt have enough RAM to handle all the textures.

i know, hence why i am looking forward to Q3/4 update more ;)

i have a gtx980... which i am sure will be fine for 1080p flat screen for, probably, the life of the game. however i game in VR in ED 100% of the time so i fear an upgrade will be needed before that update. (besides i am buying a shiny new 4k tv soon)

My only gripe with this thread, is that in the initial posts someone expressed a wish to pinch Braben's cheeks, the photo demonstrating the idea was pinching the wrong pair of cheeks!

This has ruined my gameplay completely and I have uninstalled something and thrown it in the bin, burnt it and gone and bought something else and am now cludging up that games forums with posts about that game's lack of depth, of inability to be epic or whatever....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

As usual - the whiners trying their level best to slowly whittle down the nerves of the Developers.

Do you actually believe that? How did you arrive at that conclusion? Has someone told you that that is their intention? You can read between the lines if you like, but writing your own stuff between the lines... well, I don't think you will get the full picture that way.

Calling people that you don't agree with, 'whiners'. Hmm... Carry on then.

What knowledge do you have that the Devs are so fragile that forum posts will whittle down their nerves? Are you imagining this, or have you been a fly on the wall at Occupational Health in Cambridge?

There is a trend, especially online, for people to assume a position of intellectual authority, without any knowledge on the subject. This coincides with a feeling of being duty bound to be offended on other peoples behalf, in the belief that you know better, and that other people just don't get it, so they must be furnished with your superior knowledge. Objections to recent political changes are an example of this.

If you were a developer. You log into your OWN games forums and read thread after threads after threads that go "fail", "suck", "open letter of angst" - what emotion will fill your head? Blase? Morale booster (that would be really disturbing)? Resignation? FacePalm? Take that over and over and over again over years - If I were the developer - It would put ME down and my morale. As a human - its a natural sequence of progression, so no I did not arrive at this conclusion at whim. Its called Human Nature and understanding it sometimes not that difficult. Unless these rules don't apply which clearly it doesnt to you, siding with the standard detractors who chose to whine about a feature which HASNT even been released yet : AND to add icing to the cake- you chose to question the thread that tried a positive spin on it and in process finding a flaw with the only idea this thread tries to portray : Positivity - so you have my kudos. You sir, are truly a God.

Well that's one way of taking criticism. Personally, I'd have a think about what was going wrong and try to improve things. That's what developers *do*. It's part of the job.
