Beyond - Inside News (Interview with Ed Lewis)

- You can look from a distance and get a better indication of types of minerals.

I was hoping this was the case. I remember Michael Brookes or Sandro Sammarco talking about a better way of finding materials a long time ago, so it's nice knowing it's so close now.

For those unaware, check the blue area on the planet:

I'm guessing the cargo space on that Chieften is limited, else it will risk taking over from the Python...

Looks to be a sort of "Uber" combat Asp Explorer, not quite Python level. I hope it does have more than 4 utility slots and a decent PD, but I won't hold my breath.

Hey!

I GOT IT WRONG!!!!!!!

It's 2 Large, 1 medium and 3 small!

SOrry!!!!

We'll flog you later. [yesnod]

Nice changes, really looking forward to this. I love the wing mission concept of taking missions and being able to do it in solo, completing them piece by piece. I'm liking the stuff about the trade date. While I like what you announced it would be really good if I could query the station for source and return missions. These don't pay all that well but would allow you to fill your hold and would add to the game play. Just an idea.

It starts at about 32 minutes.

Chieftain
- The Chieftain is reasonably affordable
- Hardpoints: 2 Large, 1 medium and 3 small (subject to change)
- It's a medium ship, bigger than the Asp Explorer
- Alliance ship
- No rank lock
- More maneuverable than you expect

Trade Data
- When you visit a system and anywhere where you've explored, you can access that data and it will be updated in real time.
- You can see it on the galaxy map and in the market.
- There's a search function based on where you previously visited.
- You can filter the data.

Wing Missions
- Share the rewards and challenge of missions.
- You can take wing missions as a solo player too.
- Missions can be completed in part. You can half of it, log off and do the second part the next day.
- In your wing if each player has 1 wing mission then everyone shares all the missions.

Crime & Punishment
- Sandro will explain the changes during the live stream.

The core changes will be beneficial to new players and veterans.

Planetary Visual Improvements
- There's more vibrancy and diversity on each planet with different shades of color.
- You can better see the history and geography from far away
- Form a distance you should be able to tell the surface type.
- You can look from a distance and get a better indication of types of minerals.

The base game gets Planetary Improvements, Crime & Punishment, Wing Missions etc.

Thanks
Seems something is moving
Curiosità about the ship and good idea i can play wing even in solo

As ever folks don't forget that you can hear even more form Ed on TONIGHT'S live stream. http://youtube.com/EliteDangerous where there will be not even ONE "Frontier Waggy Finger Moment" (FWFM). Can't wait to hear more about Crime and Punishment and we'll be going over the announcements and of course our opinions on them in Next week's PbP as well.

Leaves two questions open:
- How many seats are there?
- How many class 6 internal slots does it have?
.

RE Wing missions...

I wonder when a Wing is considered a Wing?

If four of you are in a Wing and undertake a mission, and then one of you completes it alone the next day? Do all four of you (still) get a reward? Alternatively one of your Wing of four isn't free the next day, so three of you complete the mission four of you started the day before?

And if one of you takes the Wing missions solo, but there's four of you in the Wing when you complete it?

"You can take wing missions as a solo player too."

So years on and ED still has no multiplayer content and still isn't planning to introduce any. We've basically got solo missions and opponents that multiple people can gang up on.

Good job.

Seconded. Jump range is really the only thing I care about at the moment. Can I turn it into an exploration ship or not!?

Jump range is one of the last things I consider for exploration. Unless I am at the very edges of the galaxy, explorers don't need a high jump range.

maybe the game will scale depending on wing size.

if i am in a wing of 4 my pirate lord wing mission may have 6 wingmen protecting.... if i am on my own, there may only be 1. this would work pretty well as whilst it would be scaling for MP content, it would be somewhat obfuscated.

it you really want maybe you could game it.... 1 player drop in not in a wing then wing up... but if players really want to do that then so be it.

This is pretty much what it will boil down to for me. If I can make it exploration worthy, I'll buy one for sure.

Same here, I fly the Asp X. The Anaconda is too big for my taste. The Python fails in jump range. My Asp X with weapons and everything in it engineered is getting 43.71/46 Jump Range. Wonder how the Chieftan will compare...also wonder on that view :p

And naturally, the concept of employing different roles is way outside the scope of a multiplayer game -_-

Sorry, not aimed at you. It's embarrassing that years in we have a multiplayer game that has nothing but solo content which happens to allow players to gang up on x piece of content to grind it out faster.

Where's a purpose for 'vettes defending something while a team mate completes an objective? Where is "haul this huge amount of cargo while a team mate fends off attacks"? Where is "distract this absolutely massive bodyguard wing at x planet while team mate assassinates important target at y planet"?

Or am I being unreasonable requesting we actually develop something instead of regurgitating content that splits the pennies afterwards?
