News Content Recap - Beyond Chapter One Livestream (18.01.2018) - Part 2 Recap

Sidewinder cant have a double rack as it can't fit a size 3, so it will be limited to a size 1 and 1 type controller. Nothing changes. The hauler and adder will get a small buff, but again not a big deal and they could probably do with it.

The big three will only be able to fit the size 3 in a size three, but only have 2 types of contollers, they want four controllers they will need to fit in a size 7, massively reducing the amount of cargo space they have. Infact it will give bigger ships less flexibility, but giving medium ships slightly more which is what is needed in my eyes.

off topic really .. but say I'd like to fly my Sidewinder more than I do (example). As we're talking about a brand new idea, rack sizes are somewhat arbitrary at this point, so why not also add some flexibility to smaller ships at the same time, reducing incentive to grind? Start a thread on and point me to it? /off topic.

All good overall except this

Is it really how FDev define sense of pride and accomplishment ??? More grind in order to make your own narrative ?! Do you even listen the large part of the community who is terribly bored by the grindfest ? Why don't you use specific task or mission in order to unlock these stuff (including scripted event).

As example :
- reversed engineered Thargoid FSD : CMDR, one of my contact has detected a weird anomalie signal in system XXXX - Please go investigate there and bring me back all data about the source of this signal. Then you will go through different Thargoid artifact, wreck or settlement/cave to scan with scripted encounter/scenario.
- Shock CANNON : CMDR, one of my contact in XXXX facility reported me that a new trigger prototype has been stolen in XXXX facility located in XXXX system. Thiefs have been last spoted in XXXX system. Go investigate there, find them and get back the prototype. Make sure to not destroy the ship to be able to get back the prototype but breach its cargo hold instead.

So many possibilities wasted in easy boring and tedious grinding gameplay...

Also, what is the point of this ? More power creep ? Can those stuff be engineered ?

More go here fetch this kill that grind?

See, any suggestion can be turned into a boring grind feast too.

4- Will we have missions to pirate megaships? (for instance, "Steal 10 tons of gold from mining vessel Vulcano"). These kinds of missions will be coming in a later beyond update.

At the moment we plan to add these types on interactions to installations and then investigate where else can benefit from this kind of gameplay.
So no for now, but we will see.

About 5 years ago, after the kickstarter, I posted a pipe-dream of interactions like 'Kidnap Overseer Milligan from Frumintol Orbital'. With these structure interactions, this kind of dream is finally coming true. Thank you for this, and the 4 years' solid gameplay I have had in the meantime!

My next pipe-dream will be for a "Get Me To The Church On Time" where you either have to kidnap the groom from his unwilling family, or source 2 tonnes of gold in a very tight time limit, because the best man has lost the rings, and return them to a 'Ceremonial Installation'.

And since every answer begets another question...

What will the distribution of the Tech Broker be? Will Tech Brokers at different locations offer different blueprints? Can there be a correlation between location types and blueprints? Eg we have Scientific Outposts, Industrial Outposts, Military outposts, and similar ranges of settlements. It would be nice to peg eg exploration blueprints, trade/mining blueprints, and weapon blueprints to these types, respectively.

I have a RL fever and a fever for the Chieftan. Might as well name it 'Cowbell Walken'.

Let's hope the nimble build stays and not get hit by Eddie Nerfy.
I'd rather have a dancing ship without SLF than a stiff - please stand still so i can hit you really hard - version with SLF.

Some great stuff coming our way! Thanx, FDEV!

Hi
Thanks for your question.

I can confirm that profits shown are accurate at the time of being displayed and can fluctuate when travelling to the chosen market.
So these means it's up to date when displayed, but if your destination is a long way away the price might change as you are in transit based on NPCs and Commanders trading at that location.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks again

Steve K

So if you scan the beacon you get the data for all market places in the system?

What happens if you just dock on 1 station (not scanning the beacon), will we have access to the prices of this station only or also the others in the system?

Hi,

Tech brokers are distributed based on system stats across human inhabited space.
In general terms they should appear in lawful, fairly high security and decently populated systems with certain economy types. I'm not going to go into more specifics as we want you to explore and find these guys.
The broker system can support different types of Tech Broker which would have some correlation to the economy they are available at and there would also be correlation between the type of broker and the blueprints they will offer.

I hope that answers your question

Thanks

Hello, quick questions: In regards to planets and better reflecting their material make up.

1.Is this just based upon Major, Minor, Low, Or No Volcanism, or does the various types of Volcanism (Silicate,Magama,Carbon Dioxide) change the surround area.

2.Also, I know more surface improvements are coming down the line and I was wondering when these do hit do we know if they will affect the location of already known sites? This happened a few times in the horizons beta, wouldn't be a big deal as with the improvements they'd be worth finding again but it'd be nice to know what we might expect. As it is down the line I also understand if that can't be answered.

3. Can we expect any new volcanism types or organic types.....

Thank you and wonderful job you guys, it's going to be an awesome year!

One more quick one.....Might we see more interaction with surface site such as these, aside from just material gathering?

Thanks Steve for the heads up and by the way, awesome stream yesterday night ;)

I have 2 questions for Steve please.

The Tech Brokers look interesting and the items shown in the stream have a taste of what to expect. Will there be a "tech tree" of the items tech brokers can unlock? For example, will going all out for the custom missiles lock you out of another branch of the tree?

The second question is will the tech brokers have unique items? In much the way the engineer Felicity Farseer specialises in drive systems, will tech brokers specialise at all?

Hi Steve,

Once discovered, will they appear on the galaxy map so we don't have to remember where they are? I'm hoping for a dedicated icon to identify systems that have a Tech Broker that I have already discovered.

I really loved the new trade features and planet updates in the stream! Can't wait to try all that out!

Hi,

Thanks for your question,

Selecting one item to unlock will not block you from buying any other item. We felt this would restrict players too much. You are free to unlock any and all items at your own pace.
That said unlocking certain items is linked to certain types of gameplay. What we showed yesterday was just a taster.
The best thing about the sytem is it is very expanable giving us and you plenty of flexibility.

At the moment the tech brokers have types which each have a pool of things they can offer. We decided on this approach to make the system as acccessible as possible with larger numbers of brokers in the galaxy rather than just X number in specific locations. But if we decide to we want to make unqiue specilist tech brokers in specific locations we can.

Thanks

I watched the stream yesterday. You have lots of very nice ideas! I just hope you can implement them effectively... I'll be participating in the beta!

Hi,

Thanks for the question.

I can confirm that there will be a new By Services option in the Map view Configuration and you will be able to search for starport services including the tech brokers in the galaxy map with a 40LY radius of your current location (similar to the trade data system shown in the live stream) so that you can see where the nearest ones are to you as long as you have discovered them.

thanks

Ah, that is excellent news. Much appreciated. Will it also display services that have been disabled by states, power influences, story events, UA trolling and the like (perhaps greyed out or with an icon next to them or whatever)?

Hi Steve - a quick question:

I noticed on the trade data enhancement that there's now UI functionality to select a local system as well as use the Galaxy map to select one, then choose a station.

Does this now mean that "Send Ship to..." can be (or has been) added to the ship transfer tab (and equipment transfer) as it could presumably reuse that functionality?

Being able to send secondary ships or equipment ahead of travelling somewhere such as engineers or CG's will make a lot of people very happy if it can now be added!

Cheers

Steve, seeing as you've been answering a few questions here I have one for you (apologies if it's been asked). The new recon limpet has sparked a debate about the number of diferent limpet controllers now available vs. the number of internal slots we have in our ships.

Do you guys have any thoughts on reworking the whole limpets vs. limpet controllers mechanic?

One thought I had was to add a "Limpet Rack" which works in a similar way to the SRV bay in that it would have a number of sub-slots (2 or maybe 3?) into which various limpet controllers could be then be fitted.

Any comment at this juncture?

Hi,

Disabled services will not be displayed, so you should never use it to find a location and then find out it is disabled when you get there.

Hope that helps
