It is. Despite many people labelling travelling as exploration.

I defer to the experts:

ex·plo·ra·tion
ˌekspləˈrāSH(ə)n/
noun

  1. the action of traveling in or through an unfamiliar area in order to learn about it.

Thanks Merriam Webster, without you we'd all talk like the internet.

I just have to ask how much one learns about an unfamiliar area when traveling through it at multiples of light speed. But hey, what do I know? I still capitalize the first letter of a sentence, don't substitute numbers for syllables, use whole words not letters that sound like them, punctuate the end of sentences, and even use Oxford commas.

So, about that Type-7 jump range buff. The exact change was that the base hull mass has gone from 420 T to 460 T, and it can now mount a class 6 FSD instead of a class 5. In practical terms, this makes the Type-7 Transporter better than the Asp and Diamondback Explorers, and on par with the Anaconda.
I hope that was an oversight (though a rather big one then), and this isn't meant to stay this way.

Quick screenshot as proof, it's just the FSD that's modded, it could be improved further:

Exploration T7?

EXPLORATION T7???!!!??? :D

It would be really appreciated if you could make the engineering screen display the text etc a bit bigger - there is room to spare.

About to log into beta.
Are the materials traders still robbing us blind or has there been any adjustment...
Hoping it was just accidently missed from the patch notes...

Thanks for lightening up the planets a bit Frontier.

It's a subtle change and during the Beta I wasn't enjoying exploring a planet surface looking at a completely black screen. I at least want to see the surface features even just a little bit.

Perhaps in the future, if you want to have a completely black screen whilst driving around, introduce some kind of infra-red or light enhancement thingy - I'd be happy with that. Or even just make the planet brightness an option - that way you'd make everyone happy.

In the meantime, I'm happier with the surface being not completely blacked out and I'm happy to wait for either the visual enhancement tech. or just a preference in a menu somewhere.

Now all that needs to be done is a buff for the Asp Scout! After all, Sandro did say it was a "priority contender" for tweaking:

Weapons & Modules

  • Rebalanced some synthesis recipes
How about rebalance the synthesis for FSD boost? Can the explorers get some love here too? The artificial nerf caused by the new 100 limit inventory has reduced max boosts stored radically (about 30%, easily can have 50 premium stored today, only 33 in new).

So someone griefs a dozen CMDRs over the course of a joy filled day, and the carefully considered/planned penalty is.... they have to dock at a station and go to bed for the night (just leaving their PC on)... Next morning they're back to 0 notoriety?

Hours should be days surely?

I can think of a few scenarios where non-griefer CMDRs will be happy it's only an hour per notoriety point.
-If you are the victim of the ol' shieldless-sidewinder-in-the-station gank and get a murder bounty.
-I believe Notoriety goes up for NPC murder as well, so if you kill a clean NPC for "reasons" it would be a bit unfair to wait for days.

In general with a lot of the C&P changes applying to crimes against both CMDRs and NPCs, I believe your average CMDR is going to be negatively affected more than some people think.

I am glad that Notoriety won't increase for crimes against mission targets. I like a good wetworks mission as much as the next guy. Hopefully, taking out the targets escort won't count against you either.

Good work.

I like this one:

"Added new Massacre Mission Scenarios"

We need more mission scenarios in general. :p

"The dark side of planets is no longer pitch black."

This should be optional.

Also, couldn't it be tied to throttle position (in game ship throttle, not joystick position) being non-zero? Then at least we have to not be docked for the timer to be moving. It doesn't add much, maybe a threat of an npc, but at least you couldn't sit on the landing pad.

Really, I get it - the edge of the galaxy should only be a few dozen clicks away...
Believe me, it's not. Not even with the old system. In the new, it will be even less. I spent several days just get to Star One.

Ok, I don't really get it. I can't do Exploration as it is right now. I die and decompose inside from the lack of anything to actually do out there. I've managed my longest trip of around 6400 Ly just before the release of The Return - I wanted some distance between me and human-space. It was a killer. Even though I had a passenger to haul out into nowhere, there's just so nothing to actually do. Jump-Honk-Scoop-Point-Wait-Repeat.
Right. You don't get it. Some of us are different and like to go far out.

And no, I didn't use any Frame Shift boosts, just a few white dwarf and neutron star boosts - and these didn't really change anything for me. BUT...
When you go to the edge, there are no neutron stars or white dwarfs to use.

I rather thought the point of exploration was not "what's at the end of the road" but more "what's between here and there." - the whole Journey vs. Destination. Sure, make credits from Exploration Data, but you have to have data to sell, which you don't get 5-jumping to the edge of the galaxy, and maybe it's just me, but after a couple of days of JHSPWR'ing, I rather welcome an SRV excursion, or even an asteroid-field break to hunt up some materials just to change things up a bit. But I suppose I could have been doing it wrong this whole time.
I like to go to the destination on the current expedition. We have over 30 waypoints and every 2 weeks we have a meetup at a basecamp, and it's about 12,000 ly between each. Some of the waypoints require up to 30 jumponium boosts, even for a long range ship that I have. Several of the ships in the expedition don't even go to the deepest stars, because they can't. For me this expedition has been part getting there as much as the journey between.

I'm sure we're not many that like this kind'a game play. Only a handful of people have been to some of the places, probably because it requires a commitment in time and effort as well as tedious plotting to stars beyond your reach.

Wow , thanks for all the hard work !
Awesome first thing for me to test , russian language in GalNetNews even my client is in english or german language , dat tone :)

There's a memo about no-love-for-explorers that's been passed around for a while. You'll have to wait until Q4.
Yet combat gets a it with improved synthesis. Can't they wait until Q4 as well? I don't remember combat was supposed to get improved QoL this year, yet they do.
