Is it time for that Squadron discussion yet???

Hello commanders

Now that the beta is coming to an end I feel it is time that we as a community start to discuss what we would like to see when Squadrons becomes a reality.
So I will start the conversation off with my wish list instead of a wall of text.

1-Squadron Mail
2- Squadron roster
3-Squadron HQ
4- Squadron being able to pledge to minor factions
5-Squadron carriers having modules so that they can be customized
6-Squadron colonization Mechanics
7-Squadron in game assets like spaceports and outpost
8-Squadron ranks and responsibilities
9-Squadron storage and bank
10-Squadron chats and voice Communication
11-Squadron content creation tools
12-Squadron wars

I know that everyone is looking forward to Squadron Mechanics to come out and I hope those mechanics add depth and meaningful gameplay to the game

Imho there should be communication and organizational tools mainly. Plus the carrier so you can actually play together.

All gameplay content (colonization... i'd love that!) is better on the player faction level. It is more including.
 
Free squadron carrier for every CMDR! :)

This is the only squadron carrier I need.

Squadron should not only get to pledge to a minor faction but help them colonize systems that have no minor faction in them. Squadron needs to be more than just about communication it needs to also be about working together to achieve goals that you can not achieve on your own.
Giving Squadrons the ability to build and grow minor factions is the type of gameplay mechanics that help build team work skills and also gives the Squadrons a sense of purpose.
 
Ideally, for me:

1) Squadrons being linked to a minor faction.
2) Squadron members then being shown as associated with that faction.
3) Faction decals
4) In game tools for coordination and organization
5) Ability for wings from same faction (all members same faction) are automatically treated as being allies. ie: Super wings, and can use each other's wing beacons.
6) Squadron comms crossing modes to all online players.
7) Ranks i'm not keen on, i'd prefer a more egalatirian solution, where members get to vote on any actions that might be possible.

Fleet carriers

6) Easy for the group to move to the fleet carriers. Don't care too much about jump range, just as long as its not too limited.
7) Interesting and cool mechanics for obtaining them. Not just supply 10000000 tons of XYZ... although i suspect this is what it will be.
8) Ability to choose postion within a system, not just system. So close to a station (not that close of course).
9) Mission boards! Auto generated of course, although maybe a separate board for squadon decided missions... if FD can implement the mechanic for such.
10) and i had some more ideas for fleet carriers, can't remember what..... just as long as i can stick all my ships on them then head off into the black with my group.

Being a wish list though, and knowing what FD might be capable of, i suspect maybe half of those won't be implmented.

At a minimum though i want the ability to move the fleet carrier easily.

Do we have any idea how many players there can be in a squadron?

Is it like 20 or 2000?
 
A player faction is a faction in name only. Players can't exactly *control* the faction, just influence it through the BGS.
Thats a definition of the current player faction mechanic

I think player factions will turn into squadrons, with in-game membership.
Maybe not a lot more than that.

But I suspect it is a little too early to discuss them. We are just guessing, and from previous threads on the subject, a lot of people are determined that it will be.... whatever they want it to be

I would like to see that number around 200-300 members to a Squadron

I would also like to see Squadrons be able to declare war on each other and the ATF could keep outsiders out of the war

Not yet.

This, essentially, will be what you're talking about.

The Focused Feedback section of the forums will host the design and philosophy behind Squadrons where Sandro will be looking for feedback. This feedback session is likely to start at the end of Q1/start of Q2 - though this is not confirmed and we'll do this when it makes sense to start putting our ideas forward and gather feedback on them.
 
I think the scope of squadrons will be MUCH smaller than a lot of what is mentioned here. Basically better group organization via chats and such, and nifty shared carrier. Colonization efforts, owned spaceports and such, not seeing it happen at all.

Squadron wars could be a way for those who like to pvp to do so without committing crimes and not having to worry about the ATF getting involved.

Anarchy, turn crime off etc...

I want to know what the difference between a squadron and a player faction is..

I would characterise a (Player) Faction as a fixed presence within the galaxy, based from a specific home location that they cannot be bumped from. A Faction can grow from that system, appearing in, and affecting surrounding systems. Management and coordination of faction activities is carried out outside of the game (Inara, Facebook, local mates down the pub etc)

A Squadron, by accounts of everything that has been discussed to date (therefore subject to change), does not have the home location constraint. A Squadron will also not directly affect BGS although squadron actions could indirectly. I would also expect squadron management (Comms, Carriers, Coordination) to be run from within the game.

When the time comes, we'll talk about it. Now it's all pure speculation.

I think this was my point...
Why not just have player factions as squadrons.
I don't see we need squadrons - just "active" player factions we can join and maintain..
