Why I hate the DBX

I'll get straight to it:

- The exterior model is derived and strongly reminiscent of a cockroach.
- The interior looks and sounds like the cockpit of a very small garbage truck

Why should this concern anybody including me? I can just pick something else to fly, right?

Well no, that's the problem: there isn't a functionally better bubble taxi / runabout available.

- In spite of how unpleasant it is, there's no way around using it, cause its too good at shrinking the bubble with its ~52-55 LY jump range (I have 6 in identical configurations).

"Ahh!", you say, "its not the only one, you could also use an ASPX or Anaconda..."

Well, you *could*, but the ASP is overly heavy, can't jump quite as far, and the cockpit is also bare metal, now with the sound of a B29...
And the Anaconda, well, its a bit overkill for a taxi, I only use it, when there's a specific reason calling for something large.

Can't FDev makes us a bit more luxurious, stylish explorer for people with a taste for well crafted interiors and somewhat more elegant exteriors? I.E. everything very similar to the DBX in function, just far more stylish looking inside and out and better sounding!

I mean, would you pick a well appointed 2018 BMW as your daily driver or 1970's Chevette with all padding removed?

(P.S. Yes, I know some people will respond and say they like the feel of an ominous sounding tiny Nostromo, but not all people do)

You hate it because you don't want to like it but it's too useful!

Kinda how I feel, but after a while the hate wears off leaving only love or at the very least respect :D

You forgot to add it's terrible at turning, even with DD5's.

Anyway yes, it's brilliant material gathering forward recon machine and I couldn't do without it.

I absolutely love the DBX, for exactly the reasons you hate it :)

That said, I would like to see versions of all ships made by all manufacturers. Basically the same ships with slight differences in their stats and different looks.
Like you mentioned DBX type ships from Saud Kruger, Gutamaya, Core Dynamics, DeLacy, Zorgon Petterson - all looking different with sight variations.
And versions of the Cobra, Vulture, Anaconda, Python, Cutter … all looking different and with only slight variations in functionality to make them feel like ships designed by the different manufacturers.

Have you tried the Orca?

I take it this is why some Explorers might want to see something like a "Top of the line" dedicated Medium-sized Gutamaya Explorer.

But for the time being, the Lakon Diamondback Explorer does things "the Lakon way". It can go places and gets the job done there - without much fanfare.

After the jump range buff I tried out the DBX and now really like it.

I'm gonna build multiple ones, focusing on range or focusing on low thermals.

It will become my dedicated megaship hacking ship when the beta goes live.

Haters gonna hate.

I use haulers for my in Bubble taxis. My DBX is my long range explorer.

I will counter the OP with-

The DBX has the look and feel of a helicopter, which is fun and different. I quite enjoy it. It's also the best at what it does. So, learn to love it or use an alternative. I'd suggest the Dolphin.

I love insects. I also love the looks of the DBX.
The only thing I would have done differently is giving it a more rounded multipane glass cockpit like a B25 or B29, or a Heinkel He 111, or perhaps like the Millennium Falcon.
The DBX and DBS would have been real lookers then.
Currently the shape of the nose is a bit to crude I think.

It is bigger than you think.
Most cockpits in the game are.
I even think they very often are a bit too empty.

I don't think all manufacturers should make variations of every ship, most of the designs would either be patented or using secret technology so the trans-manufacturer variations should be kept to a minimum. However, I do think that all the major manufacturers should at least strive to have their own entrants into each of the main ship roles, competing in every market at every level; obviously, these individual entrants wouldn't all be the same in terms of gameplay, they would all have their own unique manufacturer spin on them as well as the typical manufacturer visual style, the similarities would only be in terms of role and general magnitude of capability.

The Dolphin also makes a good bubble taxi. So fast nothing much will catch it and you'll have can high wake further than anything else that can produce similar speeds.

That's basically what I meant.
Using existing ships and adjust the stats a bit to make them feel like ships a specific manufacturer would make would simply makes it easier for FDev. Designing a completely new ship model would still be a big task and take quite some time.

Cockroach? It's definitely a cricket design!

I always thought the hologram looked like a grass hopper. But I still enjoyed the old DBX. It was my first real ship purchase.

The Dolphin also makes a good bubble taxi. So fast nothing much will catch it and you'll have can high wake further than anything else that can produce similar speeds.

I was thinking the same thing. Style, speed, cheap and good jump range. What's not to like?

Mine isn't exactly optimized for speed or range but 45ly jumps and 480ms boosts are pretty decent. And it only costs about 8mil. And looks good in graphite. :D

i love DBX,
i use it as space taxi all the time. 50ly jump with 5 rolls effort, cost only few millions. Silent running more then 2min, easy pass and docking with illegal cargo.
exterior is beautiful, for me most realistic in the game, i hate flying triangles.
