An open letter poll petition thingy to FD - Free the Cobra Mk 4

I told him. It's a horrible ship. Now I told you too.

Well what if Frontier said, "We can buff the Cobra IV (better speed and jump range, for example), but that would require us to make it available for everyone." What would the exclusivity club rather have - an "exclusive" crap ship, or a non-exclusive kinda nice ship?

Dormammu, I’ve come to bargain!

I really don't see how improving the CMkIV and removing it's exclusivity is any better of a suggestion than creating a new ship. Get FD to create a ship along the lines you want, leaving the CMkIV alone. This would fill the hole the CMkIV has illuminated, and allows FD to keep their word, and not face the ire of those who covet the exclusivity.

This thread makes me get one again(*) and outfit me a small sized smuggler!

(*) Pre-ordered on the day the pro-orders opened, yup, on the first two-three days when the pre-order site still said that Cobra Mk4 would be given to shipyard by free. It was then changed into the exclusive to pre-orderers...

I has buyed all versions of Elite, but dont have a Cobra MK IV. I only buyed ED after the pre order expires...

I have my old computer MSX at today because I like the first Elite... [hotas]

Only missing the Cobra MK IV on my fleet. [cry]

The speed doesn't really bothers me but i would wish for more maneuvarability.
In general i'm not against a free-up for the MK4, but if i can tie it to more maneuvarability i would do that :D

The MK4 fils a niche, that intrests a lot of people. The versatility of 8 internals in a small ship. It's unbeatable and she will always be one of my favourite ships. Fully engineered she's a (slow) beast.

All those who quoted David Braben, specifically this bit - The Cobra Mk IV will be available in the game only to players who joined us in the first year – forever.

The Xbox criteria for the Cobra MK4 went beyond the first year of the game being out - anyone who bought horizons before the July 30th 2016 could get it, so the first year quote is out the window

Why not just say any PS4 owner who bought the game and Horizons before 30th August 2017 can get the Cobra MK4. ( it was released on PS4 on June 27th 2017)

And before anyone mentions the Gold Sidewinder, that was for digital copies only iirc

I don't have this ship, I don't Need this ship either and I wonder: who does? Seriously, it's just another multirole ship, fit for everything thus fit for nothing. If I started my game over, I'd probably skip it.

I wouldn't mind if it was released for the rest of us though. Those who have the exclusivity of it probably barely use it. Give them a unique decal, space suite or ship kit, they'd probably be more happy with that than with the CB IV anyway (I would at least).

Some people really like collecting everything, it's them blazing their own trail and setting their own in-game goals. An unattainable ship would make that impossible to complete.

As a small, cheap, ship with the largest number of internal slots, it is, objectively, the "best" ship in the game for a couple of things, such as moving Thargoid items around and collecting Thargoid tissue samples.

Given that ED is supposed to be free of any "pay to win" elements, this should be the best reason for either making the CM4 generally available or providing another ship (a CM3 Heavy, for example) with identical capabilities.

I never expected to see Cobra Mk 4 and 'pay to win' in the same sentence. History is made.

And that should be FDev's justification for providing such a ship.

When it was released, it didn't fulfill any unique role.
Since then, the game's changed and there are now things for which it's uniquely suited.

That would work for me as I would qualify but I would still campaign for the Cobra Mk4 to be made available to everyone. Exclusive for PC and XBOX Horizon pre-purchases, for the length of the 2.x season is a way of interpreting the previous constraint.
Now that we are moving into 3.x, please Frontier, make it available to all (or those who buy Horizons - i.e. the same constraint as the Chieftain)

The Gold Sidewinder was for digital only copies, physical copy purchasers were given 1000 frontier points to spend in store. The point is still that it is a stock Sidewinder (available to all) with a limited edition paint job. I am more than happy for Cobra Mk4 users to be given either a gold paint job and / or 1000 Frontier point to be equivalence to the experience the PS4 users had.

The idea here, with Mr. Braben's post is/was that the conditions for being eligible for the CMkIV were: to have the base game, and to have pre-ordered Horizons by a certain date. PS4 players could never have met those criteria. Players that bought both the Base game, and Pre-ordered Horizons by the end date of the offer were eligible.

Anyone any suggestions for how it could be done with minimal upset? Or whether you agree or object?

As a C4 owner, I am onboard with releasing the ship. Give me an exclusive decal to indicate that I am part of that group, and the galaxy at large can have the ship.
