Beyond: Chapter one - performance took a hit

Is it fair to assume (or hope) that there will be a patch in the upcoming week or two that will hopefully address a number of little things like this?

Didn't people report this performance hit during beta?

That is usually the case, Re - addressing the little things. And from what I understand the difference between Beta and general release is the pure volume of extra people playing the game. It is said to throw up previously undiscovered glitches here and there.

Can't say I noticed any hit. My opinion for what it is worth, is that VR is very tough on hardware, and people are pushing their machines over the limit. I don't think, even the top of the range graphics cards can handle setting everything in the graphics options to ultra. It hasn't stopped them trying though. [smile]

Bet a lot of people do that first. you assume what your monitor puts out effortlessly works in vr.

I'm still waiting for my Pimax 8K, so I'm still running in 2D, on a 4K monitor with super-sampling set to 1.25 and I've seen a small boost in framerate (5-10%). In deep space I'm seeing ~110 FPS, but on planet surfaces, it drops to ~40-50 fps. It is still quite playable; I don't think I would have noticed any particular differences, except for the fact that I usually run with FPS displayed on the screen.

Are you guys seeing a performance drop also in 2D or is it VR only? I think this would be useful information for FD to isolate the cause. I will try and test later today. And is this in both Rift and Vive? Only one person has mentioned which HMD they are using (I don't have signatures turned on).

Judder, jitter where none existed before.

GTX 1080
I am hoping these where server stutters, they where a little wonky last night.

I haven't noticed much of anything, apart from those few judders, and they are actually lessened the jump in system stutters I could have that would almost trigger the hour glass.

I am seeing no drop in performance, in fact it seems smoother. I have a Rift with a Vega 56, M.2 drive, 32 gig DDR4. This is in solo mode if you want to check it out. Maybe the open servers got battered last night. [???]

I had the same issue last night, that's new for me as well so my guess was server stuttering. My frame rate was not dropping at all when the stuttering happened. I do have a video of it at least if it doesn't resolve. I was seeing the frame rate drop when in stations but had it previously, so that was unchanged for me.

Yeah performance has tanked. On my 1080Ti I see very bad dip in FPS and judder.

Same here. I'm not using VR, but I am running at the highest resolution the game supports. (Native 4k)

EVGA 1080ti FTW3 with a 2070mhz boost clock and a 7700k @ 5Ghz - 3840x2160 Native 4k/UHD - Ultra/High

ED 2.4 ran like butter at a locked 60fps everywhere with the above hardware and my current ED settings.

Now I am getting a lot of drops in odd places like SC and Hyperjumps, and Engineer bases like the one for The Dweller, Didi Vaterman, Lei Cheung and others were very choppy and inconsistent. Even lowering the ship down for Outfitting was far from smooth with a lot of drops and stuttering.

Oddly enough, Palin's base was fine. A solid 60fps during my entire visit. So go figure! :S

What in the heck did they do? :O

I'm not touching my settings since I shouldn't have to with my rig's performance capability. This is either something to do with the servers, or a bug that FDEV needs to patch and update the client. And it could only be effecting higher resolutions since I don't see much complaining from the 1080p crowd, which constitutes the majority of players these days.

Those same choppy engineer bases in 3.0 ran at a locked 60fps on Monday night in 2.4.

(Playing in Solo Mode)

This is a bit off topic but how do you tell the frame rate with a HMD connected? I see nothing in the display to indicate it even after I press the Ctrl+F key combination.
