This is ridiculous. Where do you come up with this stuff. Not everyone has to like SC not everyone has to like ED. Nobody fights to recruit new backers either. That post is hysterical.

Because I support both games and I want to make sure both communities are well informed. I saw a well informed moderated ED thread in the SC forum I thought this thread lacked proper attention. That's why I share information here. Also it's nice to see other opinions out of the SC forum even though some opinions here are overboard. Claiming SC people are cultists or stuff like that.

Pretty sure some of you even said SC was a scam back in the day :D

I like to keep a balanced discussion here because there is one in the ED thread in the SC forums. Pretty leveled smart people who know about both games. But here I saw way too many locks, bans, warnings. thread closures. Especially when I was around. We seem to be past that phase luckily.

Well, judging by the 'where are you' thread, I think I'm relatively edge case anyway being in Germany. A paucity of geographically local peers is to be expected. I do raise tickets for any issues I come across. I was a bit surprised to see my one about pausing coming out of SC flagged as resolved though :S

Have you seen some of the relentless obsession people have with CR over on the SC forums? I'm talking a few levels above fanboism.

Just replace CR with an evangelist and ship variations with communion/donations and you have a perfect example of a religious cult :D


Obviously (thankfully) the majority of people aren't like that but some of those guys over there scare the bejezus outa me.

Yet you think that not the same is going on here on Elite forums? :)....

Just look at some of the threads in the Beta discussion when people mention a "change" in something and you will have a million people on you to chew you out. Same stuff as on SC forums.

I really hate the theorycrafting on the RSI forums... Or ship reviews based on pictures/deisgn and stats from the RSI ship specs page. :mad:

I wasn't talking about rabid defense of the game but I agree that happens in both forums.

Is there swearing, name calling, accusations of being a hater, 9 times 10 to the power 20 mentions of 'its a pre alpha' and accusations of disparaging saint roberts, and a sudden moderator holiday while its going on,, followed by banning the protagonist upon their return?

Please give me a link. I'd like to take a look. I'd hate to think that kind of thing has made its way over here.

As someone that tries to be fair/neutral - I think the 'cult' concerns CR, not SC. He also seems to have more than his share of rabid detractors - I have no idea what he's ever done to deserve any of it o_O.

I've watched a few SC videos, and I can't help feeling that the chosen battleground is kindof missing the point... The majority of space is, well, space. It's empty - there's nothing there.

Re-film that clip in empty space, and I don't see where the tactics/excitement/interest is going to come from? Will SC feature a procedurally-generated persistent universe consisting of endless asteroid fields?

I don't think they have to copy Elite's model, but I do think they need to try something different (the SC forums have ideas which seem to make sense).

It must have escaped you then that the marketing is personality driven. This leads to the cult, and as a corollary a reaction against it by IMO any sane person.
