Why scan the star?
OK, I'll bite...
Why are you throttling down between jumps? I have all the very largest and ungainly ships and I never reduce my throttle at all while jumping. Why not just keep your throttle pegged and turn as you fly around the star? Even a car-lot-special drift-queen Cutter can do this.
Am I missing something?
Why scan the star?
Why scan the star?
OK champ, good for you.
The answer to your question for a lot us us is 'because I want to scan the star' by the way. I don't care if you're the reincarnation of Manfred Von Richthofen, you're not jumping into a system at full throttle, selecting the star and managing to advanced disco scan it before you fly into it.
If I'm just flying around the bubble scooping then no, I never slow down either. Some people want to take the opportunity to have a quick check of the system map though, or maybe quickly check contacts. There's no 'right' or 'wrong' about how people choose to do it and there's also no debate that this is an undocumented change that seems to serve no purpose, so is probably unintentional.
Never bumped into a neutron? Or a black hole? If you come in at full throttle and you're dead or lucky
I need to drop to 0 speed to scan them from a distance
So are you guys never using a surface scanner? What sort of "explorers" do you think you are? That's why I always scan the main star while looking at the local map for scan worthy planets. The way you do it you wouldn't even know if you've just missed an ELW.
Thanks buddy! The part I was taking exception to is the claim it was ESSENTIAL to throttle down. It simply isn't.
If we've lost something OPTIONAL thats quite different than losing something ESSENTIAL...
(and YES I also enjoy using CAPS for emphasis) Sometimes I also do bold and underline... Don't make me do bold and underline and lets not even talk about font sizes...
In 1000 Hrs? Apparently not. Can't you just chop the throttle in any case?
OK champ, good for you.

Given up explaining.
Like a father to a child who's just thrown mashed up apricot over the wall
See my post again. What I do if I am in a hurry is to pass the star on full throttle whille scooping. When I know I can safely press the jump-button, based on the ship I am flying in and the star, I do that - and then check the system map while the FSD is spinning up. If it’s a worthy system I turn around and scan the star and everything else I want to scan. I have sufficient time to decide if I want to scan the system or not while it’s spinning up. Not a problem - and I see everything I need to see.
You absolutely do NOT need to stop to use the "Advanced Disco Scan" to scan the system and populate the System Map. I have been doing it on every single jump as I fly by new systems and and scoop their stars. You don't have to target anything with the ADS. If you are talking about the Advanced SURFACE Scanner (which is NOT what you said) then I don't know as I don't use it very often except on planets. Does it even do anything on Stars?
Another technic, but this almost leads to skipping the surface scan data of the center star: Because if you already have passed it and then turn around you would lose a lot more time in the end as if you would have scanned it before you start scooping (in theory you could even do both* at once, not sure how many do it this way though).
But I see there's probably no golden way of how we would do this and all boils down to personal preferences. That's why I urgently suggest to make this stop an option - problem solved and everyone is happy. But just forcing one habit into the opposite habit is really a bit shabby IMO.
* talking about scooping and surface scan, not the Honk
Why are people who don't use this feature even posting? We are not talking about why it is needed or not. We are talking about why it has changed. Talk about being pretentious... Good for you if you dont use it, no need for being a "drama queen".
Eg. I don't use AMFU when exploring, so I better go off to the AMFU thread and tell them its pointless and not essential cause I dont use it.
Apparently, it appears after cleaning apricot from the walls, the primary point of difference revolves around the Surface Scanner, right? (Not the Advanced Discovery Scanner).
Not really... I just want the throttle to do what I set it to do, not some other random value.
Kind of like you'd probably be a bit put out if it set itself to zero every jump despite the fact that you had it pushed wide open.![]()
What's difficult about understanding that some people want to come to a complete stop at a star?
But the thing it - it IS already an option on the PS4!
If I hold down L1 (throttle down) OR press L1 and R1 simultaneously (bound to throttle = 0) the ship stops right after the jump in front of the star - ready to scan. I swear it does!
We are dealing with a bug on the PC (Xbox?).
What would make everybody happy would be a simple option to toggle what we would want the ship to do after the jump.
