Datamined Wake Exceptions, Famine systems, and Distribution centers (or lack of).

Since Beyond 3.0 dropped with the changes for the Engineers and material limits, many of us have found ourselves lacking certain G5 mats, like, you guessed it, Datamined Wake Exceptions.

Prior to 3.0, it was a matter of finding a system in Famine and going to the Distribution Center and scanning Wakes for the elusive data. Finding a Distro center wasn't hard, they usually were found in about (what I perceived to be) 80% of the systems in Famine state.

However, since 3.0, I have visited 25 systems in this state and not a single one has had a Distro Center.

FDev, what gives? Where are we supposed to find Datamined Wake Exceptions now that doesn't take 3 weeks to do one FSD?

And for those who are going to spout "material trader", don't even bother. The conversion rate is horrible and nobody should be "forced" to trade any mats.

Anyone else finding it difficult to find Datamined Wake Exceptions?

Go to LTT 9391. And yes they changed a lot of stuff like material spawn rates, hazardous res dissapeared, materials missing again from the game and a lot of other stuff.

A lot of the problem is that almost any other state's 'special' POIs (such as checkpoints) overwrite distribution centers. Keep looking used to be the mantra in 2.4

Fit a wake scanner - scan two or three wakes on your way out of each station.

Haven't been short of DWEs since I started doing that as part of my normal routine.

Bingo!

That is exactly what I do. I've got a Wake Scanner on every ship I fly since 3.0 dropped. I scan as many wakes as there are in front of me when leaving a station, base or outpost. I also scan ships in SC while I am traveling to wherever. It all adds up over time.

I have completed all my my FSD upgrades for 10 ships, and without visiting a Famine system and just doing the above I currently have a total of 48 Data Mined Wake Exceptions. I was down to handful when I finished re-engineering my fleet about a week ago.

I do scan everything already as I leave stations, and ships while in SC, I guess I have just had horrible luck. I've literally been looking for Distro centers now since yesterday evening, not a single one found. :(

Sorry to hear that. The RNG aspects of course come into play all the time with this stuff. I tend to get one DWE hit for every 5-8 wake scans at a station. While I am not sure this is actually a thing, I seem to get them more often when scanning wakes from ships that just jumped out right before I scanned the wake.

No idea if that is a thing, or just coincidence.

If you find one in an anarchy system.. you can mine chemical manipulators aswell.

(Shoot the t9s.. they respawn after a while and the little ships still come an go so you can keep scanning wakes)

You can trade the most frequent data from wake scanning for data wake 6 for 1.That means you can double the data wakes in numbers than before...

Make sure no faction in the system are in civil war or war. If they are there wont be any dis centers.

Thats correct if you see any system in famine and combat zones also, you wont get any dis centers...

AS others suggested,I have scanned leaving stations but no dice !!!!

^^^^ This is exactly why I gave up on Engineering in 3.0(and I am a fan)
I found no DC in Famine, and when I did I got 2 lots in over 2 hours, I'm done with RNGineering...

Off to play Subnautica :)

Yes. Been scanning wakes outside every station while doing other things ever since 3.0 dropped and not had a single one. I have had to trade for all mine. Which, as you say, is a bit painful given some of the conversion rates.

Id say I get 1 datamined for every 30 or 40 scans. Which is obviously wayyyy too low.
