Open play trolls

But that doesn't mean that ED has to be shoehorned into 'serious space combat sim'

Excuse me but isn't that (ironic...as the PvP credo is "I'm only Playing my own way") suggesting that I SHOULDN'T "Play My Own Way"
Or is that merely suggesting that Open...isn't the place for any serious "Space Combat Simulation"

It's not a problem at all. You know as soon as you click that button that other human player interaction is possible, for better or for worse.

Unless you're at a known player hotspot or CG, the chances of running into another human player in open are quite slim, anyway. And even then, the worst you'll suffer is a quick hello in local chat.

This post is 100% accurate in every way. Too bad it will be ignored by those who choose not to listen.

You can play it as a serious space combat simulation, but don't expect the game to ever be one.

I can buy a £40 pair of shoes and proclaim them to be Louboutins all I want, doesn't mean they are.

And that can't be explained away by me saying, "I'm just doing it my way". They objectively, are not a £400 pair of shoes. ED is objectively, not a serious simulation of space combat.

Moreso, I've had way more positive experiences in open than negative.

Even when I've felt salty after losing a fight because I dun goofed up, the 'good fight cmdr' that usually appears in local chat always makes me smile. And gives me another addition to my friend's list.

Folks, I'll be honest: I am mainly in Solo these days. It's my choice. I can handle Open, and I don't run to my mommy when I lose in games ( ;) ), but I'm not good at PVP, and I have neither the time, not the inclination to "git gud". I simply prefer to do my own thing--as made possible by FD.

You guys are not losing out on anything. Fighting me is like stepping on a slug. Makes a weird noise, messes up your shoes, and it's no fun at all, as it requires absolutely no skill. :D

I was brought up to respect everybody. My father used to say you should speak to somebody as if you were alone in a room together. I respect everybody here (and like a lot, both PVPers and PVErs).

We all love this game. Let's not fight over it, at least not on the forums.

There is nothing wrong with playing in the game mode that makes you most comfortable. It's your game.

I guess the key question then would be...
Is it more "realistic" or "Sim-Like" if I restrict my activities to only engaging in 1 vs 1 Combats vs similarly equipped ships at a small number of systems/stations within the bubble?

That has nothing to do with anything, thought.

ED can't and won't ever be a serious simulation of space combat.

The physics are all wrong. The weapons are all wrong. It's a pseudo-simulation at best. Not even worthy of being called Sim-Lite.

It's an arcade shooter in space.

Just more min/maxing as usual.

I didn't have time to see how the Aesop's related, but I'm guessing it can be twisted to mean exactly the opposite of what you intend.

What I don't get is how you manage to make using a mouse some kind passive aggressive insult. Setting aside the fact that while everyone has a keyboard and mouse not everyone has an expensive HOTAS setup or even space for it, what's wrong with using a control method that you feel grants you more control over your ship? Most people would consider that a positive. For that matter, whats the problem with min/maxing? We're talking about players with in excess of 1000 hours; what the blazes are they SUPPOSED to be doing if not min maxing their ships and skills?

I have used kb/m since I started... as most have.

Yeah. Why? Because it makes fixed aiming really easy. Bet you've got some super high resolution mouse with a tonne of buttons too.

Using kb/m because you're a student on a laptop your parents bought for you and you can't afford anything else is one thing. Using kb/m because it's the meta is another.
I'm not interested in flying a spaceship with the same controls I use in minecraft, I want to use a HOTAS. Not because it's better, because it feels like what I should be flying a spaceship with. If I play some racing sim I use a wheel & pedals. If I want to play minecraft I use kb/m or a gamepad.

You have min/maxed your ship, you min/max your controller (if a gamepad was the meta you'd use one, right?). I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm saying it's hypocritical to mock others for min/maxing when the typical PvP warrior is so focused on getting the best dps possible they miss out on the rest of the game.

By all means play your own way, for whatever reason, but remember the fox with no tail ;)

Shock horror, people use equipment that helps them play a game better.

Y'know, I was thinking I should sell my PC and employ someone to draw pictures in flipbook so I can experience Elite: Dangerous in cartoon stop motion fashion, just so I can avoid being the one gaming the meta.

Jesus H Zombie, you're really reaching for this one aren't you.

Oh no, you're mis-interpreting my post because you didn't read the whole thing!
