Modes Reworking the game modes

Being shot at by other players certainly affects their game - and that's something that, thankfully, the game design renders completely optional.

.... their existence in game is not simply to serve as targets for the PvP inclined - they have a choice in the matter, after all....

I stated the perfect balance makes them not anyone wants to shoot at.
And if so, it cripples their game harshly.
Unimaginable? [noob]

LOL! Wouldn't be the first time!

Would make me question myself.

How can it increase interactions?

There is an instance limit, which the both the main PGs have more than enough members to hit hundreds of times over.
Open won't increase the number of people in an instance, just change who they see in it.

Less systems to roam alone within high traffic areas.
The instance limit is most likely only exceeded at very crowded areas.
But most places are not crowded.

Sammarco at face value, values player encounters. It seems many Elite players appreciate the challenges Open play provides - apparently!

PvP haters will argue; just listen to, when, ever, direct player encounters are mentioned by Sammarco.
Elite provides the context. Consensual, none consensual, framed in an universe, considering actions done, judged by rules provided.
May I be mistaken? But I always had that impression Sammarco Lead designer, space loach, beige cowboy, man of passion & cunning, seemed to want it, support it, encourage it, in Open.

So about what are you still arguing Gentlemen?

Open possesses what no mode possible can in Elite.

No other mode.

Yes, I do appreciate Sandros decision with the current C&P system!
We discuss in hope to provide some suggestions and make his job easier.

Battling out the disussions and concerns possible design decisions could have ;)

You should try the Mobius Group for your area, all the decent places have lots people.
The few times I've used that group, I've had to try and find peaceful places.

Rare trade goods routes, busy.
Jameson, busy
Engineer home worlds, busy.
CGs, mega busy and have to swap modes to dock.

Honestly, open is not as busy as Mobius - I see less people in open, so I'd have fewer interactions. And I'd have them with people I don't like, so why bother going there.

Sammarco at face value, values player encounters.

And he values players choosing the types of encounters they get.

But you are right about open having more of something other modes don't have.

Cheaters and griefers.

Well you are right about one thing, Open does possess what no other mode in Elite does... NON consensual PVP...

Gentlemen, your quite passionate about PvP in Open I see.
I appreciate, an opinion and stance thus forward, although I not share it.

I don't think Mobius players would welcome my presence and I would probably get bored.
Can't bait people to interdict a harmless looking T7 and can't hunt down criminals worth millions.
But that's kinda how I enjoy the game.

I do enjoy baiting them griefers.

Nah. I tilted at your windmill for about 6 months....until I was involved with the devs. Direct PVP is what it is...and will NEVER be anything else.

A side show with no input into a game that is defined by indirect PVP based on the movement of PVE trophies. This definition requires that the modes be treated equally...whether they feel equal to anyone, or not.

You will give up..and leave or accept the situation...just like ALL the direct PVP people before you.

Tilt away. Your resolve will just melt away like the hull of a noobwinder.

See, while I get this - as my trusty Rares fill Cobra Mk3 well knows.
There is also other things to do that don't involve guns or killing.

I tried to throw my trade fit Cutter through the slot yesterday while doing wing trade missions with a mate in a T9 - trying to cut him up and get in the station first.

A Dolphin came out of no where and got my jammed in the slot - of which my mate just laughed down Discord at me.
He did try yelling things like;

wiggle to the left... no your other left.
you know your stuck right?
roll your ship. ( <--- Cutter, in slot.... how am I supposed to roll !?!?!?!)

You know, he yelled all the helpful stuff while laughing.

This is how it goes every time we undock, we do something really stupid for giggles. Either on planets or around the docking hatch.
Normally while in expensive ships. Being sober is optional.... just like PvP ;)

I see an elite Cmdr in a sidewinder. I run. Those guys are scary.

First time I was flying my trade fit Cutter I throw it against the surface of a planet.
So much for shields being optional.

I can tell you from experience... in that situation shields are not the problem. I know because I've pancaked my Asp (Fully shielded).. planet won

Ok we get it! You hate people, you dont like play in open. Everyone in open are chetars and griefers. Please stop spread hatred against that mode.
I hope you not convinced a lot of players to not play open only because of your bad experience. A lot of good people exists in open and few re-buys are nothing.

You wrote about Mobius is more busy then open, maybe yes, but only because players like you exists. I still dont get it, play as you like and stop writing about mode you obviously hate.

Then stop trying to change the modes.

Actually, Mobius is more busy than open because players who need other players to be their content, but are unwilling to provide content in return, exist. This type of player desperately wants to pretend they are 1337 PvPer, but are so pathetic at it that they need to attack PvE players to get any kills. They cannot win players into Open with their winning personalies, they cannot kill players who play in Open for the potential challenge*, so they're reduced to either demanding that PvE players be forced into Open by denying them access to the content they enjoy, or want Frontier to bribe them into playing in Open.

_____

* Given that the Open population includes me, that's really saying something.

I am curious about your numbers. From where do they come?

"Mobius" is shorthand for all the various groups that have formed, for various reasons, that have a strict "No PvP" policy. And its less than hard numbers thing, and more of a personal experience thing. During a normal game session, while playing in Open, I'll check my contact list periodically to make sure I know who's around me. Generally, I'll see 3-4 players on it at the end of the session. Double that if I'm doing a CG or visiting a "busy" system.

The last time I logged into the "PvE group" I have access to, while getting a feel for the handling of my newly purchased Type-9, I saw slightly more than I'd see in Open. And this is just one group, set up so that players participating in exploration expeditions don't have to worry about getting blown up by jerks waiting for them at various waypoints.

Probably the closest thing we've got to a proper survey of who plays what in what mode can be found here, where slightly fewer players primarily played in Open than they do other modes combined. Given how many Open players do use other modes for various reasons, from having a bad internet day, to simply not being in the mood to put up with pad hogs, there's probably quite a few players who describe themselves as Open players that still spend a considerable amount of time in other modes. Amusingly, even a third of "emergent gameplay deliverers" primarily play a mode besides Open.
