This should make quite a lot of people happy!

It certainly makes more sense than having your ship call the authorities to your location so they can join in on attacking you.

Yes, disabling that could be done manually, but having it occur automatically fits neatly into the "quality of life" theme for this season.

I say "bravo" to that and anything else like it Frontier is willing to bring into the game.

Hello Commander CMDR Rusty Dog!

So, essentially, your ship is helping you be a more effective fugitive. That's a nice twist.

That's a nice way of describing it. Yes.

Under normal circumstances your ship uses its system authority link to tell the authorities every time someone commits a crime against you. It "dobs" them in by reporting the crime against you to the authorities.

When you are wanted, it stops doing this, deactivating the system authority link so that when someone commits a crime against you it is not reported. It does this to prevent the authorities from turning up and going after you.

We're making this change because it fits nicely with the other new thing your ship does automatically in 3.0: it uses anonymous access protocols to connect to starport services when you are wanted at the port. Again, this is to prevent you from being discovered and incarcerated/shot.

People complained about this for ages and being the fanboy that I am I always told them to scan their targets first. Now that it gets changed it's obviously the right way to go and we should all be thankful that FDEV listens to the critical part of our community... :D
Being a proper white knight is certainly schizophrenic at times ;)

Excellent news :

1) This nonsense about being a criminal for stopping a criminal was ridiculous. Smart move FD , thumbs up !

and, most importantly ...

2) We now have proof that babelfisch isn't a true white knight since he has a bullet proof sense of humor.

Over all, a good day on the FD forums :D

So just for absolute clarity then, what it WON'T do is allow you to shoot a criminal ship before your scan has completed and get away with it? You'd still be committing a crime because at the time you fired you didn't know for certain that the ship was wanted? (I use ship here to include both commanders and npc)?

or does it?

Well if the ship is being an accomplice in your crimes, now I see why the bounties are against the ship and not the player any more, hehe :)

It will.... in 3.0.3. These are the new changes to the KWS coming in next weeks patch. See here for details....

Really like this - it’s exactly what a criminal would want, it makes sense and improves gameplay by removing unnecessary scans. Good stuff - thanks for this change.

What exactly is the difference to the current situation? If i am WANTED and another ship attacks me (after scanning me) it does not commit a crime against me as I AM A CRIMINAL that can be shoot down without consequences....

The only change i can imagine: If another ship attacks me before it scanned me currently this is called a "crime" and the ship should get a bounty and the authority link calls the police. Very minor change, isn't it?

The other change that i understand in the last part of the original text is nice - if someone shoots at a wanted ship it is not counted as a crime - no bounty i hope.

But: The main problem with the current C&P are not addressed with this change either: Minor faults (even if done by my fighter pilot) lead to a bounty as i am flying a corvette and even ONE accidential hit of a clean target leads to a bounty. With my fighter pilot it is even worse - althought his weapons are much smaller i get a bounty instantly if he accidentially hits a clean ship. And if a have a bounty i can be shot from everyone - if i fight back i even get more bounties... More players attack me... more trouble with the authority ships.... THAT is the main problem with current C&P. What you address with the change is nice - but havent been a real problem for most of us - because you still have to scan a ship to be sure....

Ciao, Udo

Ah sweet...one less thing to worry about when yer wanted in nearly every system in a 20ly radius...suppose I should do something about that but Im actually really enjoying being so wanted...which means Im in a tiny minority indeed it seems but ye sweet...this was something that was a tad bothersome, good show ^

This is a very big change.

The wording on this is still confusing.
Wouldn't it make more sense to say "when a ship is wanted in a jurisdiction, the ship automatically deactivates the system authority link to prevent crimes committed against them from being detected/reported."

This whole you/your stuff makes it sound like it only applies to CMDR's, while for this to work it has to apply to NPC's as well.

"We're terribly sorry, Mr. Criminal, but due to your total lack of respect for the law, we have cut your access to some of our services. Please happily continue bringing illegal goods and - in general - negatively impact our station's operations and our system's state, which we'll glance over, despite already being in possession of evidence of your ill intentions, on which the decision to cut down your access has been made. Please be reminded that loitering is an offence punishable by death, while mass-murdering, slave trading or toppling over political states is acceptable, provided you request docking permissions."

Does this disabling of reporting crimes also work when you're carrying questionable cargo? I could've done without all the times I've attracted the authorities' attention when I've gotten involved in a bit of tussle while carrying something I shouldn't be carrying.

No, it's only when you're Wanted.

You can turn Report Crimes Off if you want some discretion when handling sensitive cargoes.
